I actually like the old costume more - there's nothing wrong with the new one, but I do feel it comes across more, to me, like James Dean rather than Frank Sinatra. The old costume feels more like a youthful update, but still very debonair and stylish.

Anyway, the jumps were shaky, of course, but funnily enough, despite his illness, I felt that in the performance he was more engaged, and even energetic, than at Lombardia, where I felt he was more listless, as if his heart wasn't quite in it.

He really gave it his all today, and looked quite spent afterwards. Good fight, Sasha! I have a much better feeling about the season ahead after Finlandia, in spite of all the errors, I'm looking ahead with far more sanguine expectations than before.

Of course your heart is not in it when you have to skate to some horror music. And I mean HORROR.

He is noticeably faster compared to last year and it's not just because of the music. In the FS also I noticed an increase in speed. I think it has to do with the new skates. His centre of gravity is shifted slightly forward with the higher heel and in theory it should help him glide faster.

Sasha finished 9th overall, up 2 places from his SP results. It's a comeback... of sorts.

We are only 2 competitions into the season and already so much drama. For a generally low-key and not very open person (to people he does not want to be open with), drama sure follows him around. It's odd.

Anyway, I really hope he will make a full recovery and stay in good health. That's always my concern every year, going back to his junior days.

Just to clarify, in case I got a bit rambly and muddled in my post:) - I meant the listlessness & his heart not being in it, about the FP. Of course the atrocious medley from the infernal regions ("infernal medley" or "TAMFTIR" for short?;)) would likely cast its pall even over the free skate and make him feel unmotivated there too. The thought of saying something like that did sort of glance through (what I am pleased to call) my mind, but it disappeared...;)

(It being gone makes me feel so light and in good spirits - I wonder what it must have done for him?:))

It certainly gave us a lot to talk about though, TAMFTIR. At first I thought it was some Swedish word (it is early morning here, forgive me), then I realized it was an acronym. LoL

I forgot to mention this but his ISU profile was updated several days ago. Into his third season as a senior skater, Sasha has finally now been recognized by Mishin as one of his primary students. I guess Artur's departure left an opening to be filled by someone? I dunno what Mishin thinks.

The second interesting thing is that the person who submitted the form somehow discovered that Sasha started skating a year earlier than they had previously thought (for the past 8 years). 2003 is now listed as the date he began skating. It used to be 2004.

And just to make some general comments on his competition schedule. I've probably said this a hundred times or so in the last few years but this "tennis schedule" is really unnecessary. He does on average 10-11 competitions every season, going back to his JGP debut. It is too much. Last season he did 14 competitions (or was it 15?), which is basically insane. Add to that, 4 overseas camps a year. Also too much. Waste of energy, waste of resources. Flights are very tiring. I'm sure these young skaters feel good to travel overseas during the summer, Courchevel is a nice place. But everything takes a physical toll on the body sooner or later. And Sasha himself is not built like an ox, his physique is not like that. He shouldn't be put on such a schedule. This needs to change, it should have changed 3 years ago. But unfortunately, it seems to be what Mishin believes in (the "tennis schedule).

I feel very strongly about this.

He is not in the starting lineup in the results grid. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
