2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Konstantinova for sure, but will she get some spot in GP?
Samodurova, I think they may want to observe development of her tiny jumps for one more season in juniors.
Panenkova like Samodurova, but in regard to puberty and artistry.
Fedichkina may try some smaller senior tourneys, I doubt she'll get any junior or senior GP assignments.
Gubanova is getting dangerously close to Fedichkina, still she's almost a year younger and more promissing, so i think they might give her one JGP spot, if she skates well.
Gulyakova and Kurakova - good skaters in good form, just unlucky to be one of many, should get JGP spot next season, if skate well. Still not enough internationally experienced for seniors, imo.

Overall, it's too early to foresee the next season, when this one has barely started. :)

It also depends on the up and coming juniors and how the current seniors skate.
For example, if some of the current seniors retire, the fed may want some of the juniors to go senior.
If there are many young talents joining junior ranks, they may also try getting some of the current juniors into seniors to distribute it better.

How can you tell Daria is post puberty? What I can say is she is 14 and she has a quite mature body. It does not mean she will not grow further. I think the opposite: if you are not a stick figure at 14, chances are high that you will overgrow your jump, at least for most Russian ladies. Japanese ladies are different though.

For me J Rus Team should be (if there was no J Nats)
Daria Panenkova because she is already post puberty having nice jumps and didn't get ant Jgp events despite being very consistent
Anastasia Gulyakova (because she also seems a real lady having 3A and didn't have 2na Jgp assiantment so without JGPF)
and someone else depending on JGPF
P.S. I'm not predicting it. It's just fair for me. You could disagree with that

funny though, with scores like four years ago, none of those girls would even make it to the final :coffee:

Thanks for flashback. But I wouldn't say it's a big difference. Interesting protocol. Didn't know that Serafima got two 'e' on the lutzes there. And Maria's BV is not worse than Sonya's, for example. Just increasing of PCS, and more GOE on the jumps. Those judges were strict. Very low GOE. Here's protocol from Egna. Almost at each element 1-2 GOE. It's about quality of execution, probably. Also no transitions in and out, etc.

Wow! Edmunds was 2ns in Fs and higher than Medvedeva and Sahanovich in this segment. :eeking: I didn't remember that... Evgenia's result was quite close to her current PB in FS. So from all 6 girls have survived and still competing at major international events only 2 now: Sotskova and Medvedeva

and proklova hasn't grown at all since 2013. she finished her career because of injury, but she is as diminutive as before.
i think it might be the same for alena, she looks like a girl who is just naturally small, just like lipinski/proklova. her mom is also very tiny.
and i'm not sure about sasha, would she grow or not, her mom is about 20 cm taller than she is

it's only inflation of scores, nothing more. i see an improvment from the past in eteri's girls, but someone like sofia looks exactly like a skater from 2013
here's my beloved proklova's fs from 2013 jgp czech, for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbfylNpo3iI
she could easily beat sofia with this in 2017

i'll also post it here
JGP Music Video
JGP Closing Video
these amazing videos deserve more views

Thank you for sharing these. The closing video in particular is excellent! Ted Barton really is special, and I'm so glad he's been able to do what he has for juniors these past few season. I wish he was able to do something similar for seniors and that there was more easy access to competition video. But let's enjoy the progress on the junior front at any rate!

OMG, what a sin to look like a skater from 2013. 4 whole years ago!!! :rolleye:

Congratulations to Sofia for winning two JGPs with her own style and not trying to copy the trend du jour. I like her skating much more than some of the girls who are hyped as "the best" on here by the same small group who think they can dictate others' tastes.

and it's exactly what you're doing right now.,,, :rolleye:

Still not impressed by Kanysheva. Good skating skills, nice look, but her jumps are weak yet. 3T very close to UR, couldn't see 3Lz because of garbage camera, 2A was also bad. And she reminds me of South Korean figure skaters - that's a bad sign. Why Vasilieva's TES is so low? UR on 3F-3Lo? Tarkanova's scores with 3F-2T are ridiculous, at JGP she would have 59-60 points for such skate. Kurakova is good. And I'm upset again, I just remembered, that instead of her we will see ABBA girl, which is barely get 59-60 points for SP, and 115-120 for the FP.

agree about Kanysheva
Vasilieva's 3F was UR. i think.
Tarkanova's scores with 3F-2T is okey. imo. she got bonus her for her spins. maybe even 2points? soo real tes is lower. her 3lz and 2a was amazing.
Kurakova maybe got "e" or "!" on her 3f. And her 3t looked UR
