2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I don't know why, but I find her skate empty in terms of emotions, of giving something to the public: joy, sadness, angriness, etc.
She's elegant, has high jumps, good skating skills, a lot of excellent abilities, but again it's like you look at a beautiful painting, you like the colours, but don't feel anything.

It's the program. It's normal to not know how to perform a Game of Thrones program that's not about Game of Thrones.

Perhaps Polina is the least-hated of Eteri's skaters? Or of Russian ladies skaters? I certainly love her, and in top shape she's a definite contender for the Olympic team. Imagine, though, all three ladies would be Eteri's skaters. Not complaining about that either...

That 'Light of the Seven' programm of Polina is disturbing. Not the programm itself but the using of the music in this way. It gives me too many associations with GoT. Poor Margaery :sad21:

P.S. My opinion.

Well people here love to complain about lutz, but Polina has an excellent one. She also doesn't use tano. So if she will be getting higher results we might see some brand new complaints on this forum

I can say from now that I don't like her :))
For me, she, Medvedeva and Sostkova have something in common: impersonal skating.

yeah, as long as polina are not starts winning, she might be not recievieng a lot of hate. but as soon, as he goes up in the rankings, we will learn a lot about her skating.
now this people are even pretending, that they like tuktamysheva and her gorgeous jumps.
it was all different, when liza was a world champion

Polina, Polina, Polina!

She jumps so high, and she jumps so far. She glides so smoothly and so effortlessly across the ice, with such grace.

About her spins... her illusion spin last season was the best in the business so I was a bit disappointed to see it go. But the new combination spin still looked very good! And I am so thrilled that she ditched the biellmann! Let's face it, her biellmann position is probably the weakest aspect in all of her skating, and she does not need it to get level 4 anyway. More importantly, last season she was often struggling to complete the layback spin in time for the ending poses, and the ending of her program suffered as a result. I think this little tweak is just brilliant.

You don't really need to get high results to be critisized on this forum if you are an Eteri's student )
Tsurkaya has better technique but still not ideal, she wrenches her upper body into the jump rather then first jumping and then rotating, and there's a bit of extra swing on the toeloop too. It's especially noticeable in her Long Program.

I remember that. Before the next season started there was a thread dedicated to how awful she was - and as for her jumps, they were no great shakes either, not really - and how she'd steal Mao's rightful World crown with her jumped-up PCS. (I gave up reading after 10 pages, but people were still going strong.;))

Still, I must confess, that as a Liza fan, I'm always grateful to see any kind comment thrown her way.:)

Also, there were always complaints how every season it was a new Russian on top - now that Evgenia has been on top for two seasons in a row, I can't say that I've seen all those comments giving thanks that we now have the same Russian. Now it's boring instead. Ah, well...

Its totally ok to not like some skater, she is not my favorite one either, but i'm talking about people who love to bring the same complaints over and over again, like, every time a conversation about that skater starts. That's just pointless, its better to focus on positive sides of each skater i think, instead of bringing in negativity.

Congrats to Stasya Konstantinova - she was sensational, amazing, stunning and rightfully took 1st place in SP.
Did I just watch Sima completing 3-3? Nice! That axel entry though... :hopelessness:
Anna P's overall skating looks pretty bad atm.

I am just amazed at the abundance of riches in the Russian ladies' program. 3/3? No problem. Tano? Done. I can't even imagine who will get that third spot for the Olympics.

Alisa Fedichkina somehow reminds me of the russian gymnast Evgenya Shelgunova. They are both good and nice to watch, but not good enough for the big competitions
