2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

LOL
her program is about painting.

How did I not know this? I swear, when I first saw this program at Junior Worlds I was so confused with the movements, because I kept wondering how it related to the Game of Thrones music. I think this is probably why I didn't warm up to the program right away even though I loved the music choice. This makes so much sense now! Still, using Light of the Seven is a really weird musical choice for a 'painting' theme, because there are such strong associations to the tv series and the particular situation where this music was played. But this may be just me being unable to disassociate the musical theme and its context from the skating itself.

Glad to see Polina in shape, though. Her jumps are looking so much better since the last time I saw her!

I think the team thought that using the music would connect the audience to the program (and thus, the judges) because they can relate to the music and have heard it before, but it's not a warhorse. However, it is an odd choice for a program that isn't about Game of Thrones at all...

Well, at least Kanysheva didn't get good GOE (and that's right), but I think I saw some URs on her jumps. She has nice skating skills, but no musicality at all. Her movements are scripted, and no expressions on her face, even when she shakes her butt. If you're giving to 12yo girl such program, be sure she can skate it. Even Trusova is trying to show some emotions.

Tarakanova - I thought she will bomb again, but nope, only one spoiled jump. And two ! on flips. I really like her speed and skating, she is very special girl.

Sigh about Vasilieva and Kurakova.

this! agree. And I saw 2-3 URs for sure.

I think her edge on flip is correct. They were too strict about edges here.
But anyway flip is her weakest jump. I think they're working on her technique.
But not bad skate at all.

why though? is she injured again? or mentally not prepared to skate FS...

I have a very bad feeling about this. Before long we may have to say goodbye to Anna the way we had to Yulia. And Gracie is possibly next. I'd love to be proven wrong.

This is not exactly a pleasant way to start an Olympic season.

May I ask which combo the doubled lutz was in? And did she finish the rest of that combo? Either way, it's not the best way for her to start her season but considering what her situation is, I think it's pretty remarkable. I'm confident that she's just going to go up this year.
