Side note here: I ran into some videos and started wondering - What should I expect out of the very best 7-year-old ladies' skaters in Russia? It's kind of tough to tell what the general level for that age group is(Never actually watched it or paid any attention to it), but something caught my interest recently.

As someone said in Angel's thread, Nastya Gubanova jumped 3F when she was only 8 years old. Also, I guess Sofia Akatieva from Eteri's group did triple jumps at very young age. She is still only 10 yo, but already jumps all triples. She'll be the next skater in Eteri's group (after Sasha and Anna), who will land quad jump. :)

:rolleye: That's a great explanation - I don't see the issue with her describing it like that - other than it being her describing it like that.

If Kostner said the same quote people would praise her for adopting an avant garde/poetic/abstract concept for her program.

Imo the very best pre-novice and novice Russian skater was Anastasia Gubanova. She landed triple flip in competition at 8 years 11 months. This is her earliest video at 8:

What do you all think about Elena Radionova's prospects with regards to the Olympics? I assume that 4th place at CoR means she has no chance of making GPF which, considering this is Russia, will hurt her coming to Nationals but I did see quite a lot of improvement in her skating since she made that coaching change.

She may not be as 'cute' as Marin Honda ;) but I thought she's getting those long limbs in check much more than she did last season and her landings don't look as wonky as they used to. Just my opinion obviously

Thank you a lot! That helps me to get a better idea.

The reason I started investigating is because I coincidentally ran into this video and started wondering if she really is extremely impressive or if I just am out of touch about what a 7-year-old should be able to do:

The jumps themselves are... not worth mentioning but this footwork and choreo is just insane to me.
 
can't wait for alenka's senior debut:love:
and i hope that sasha lands her quad, at least one successeful domestic attempt is needed before the JGPF

She is impressive indeed. I saw kids 9-10 yo kids which don't understand what they're doing, with stonefaces they were doing scripted choreo elements and nothing else. This kiddo really feels the music and has amazing skating skills for such an young age.

I love Lena and would love to see her at the Olympics, but I am afraid it may be a long shot this year. She is looking stronger in some aspects, but then again weaker in others. I don't think GPF is happening either, since her next event is very packed as well and she would need a win against Zagitova, Mihara, Higuchi etc to have any chance at all (and even then it might not happen). Then again, assuming that Med and Zagi are a lock, the third spot is still very much open so who knows. Anything can happen between now and February. And it will also depend on how Sotskova, Pogorilaya and Tuktamysheva will do internationally.
