Anna Pogorilaya

Wait! That means her back is OK after that freaky fall in the FS?
Anna was invited, but she did not show up at the rehearsal and Laurine came instead. So I’m pretty sure she would not be in the gala. Actually she did not even appear at the banquet last night...So worried about her...I think she is in extreme pain both physically and mentally.

Regarding her relationship with her coach, Tsareva seems really a cold-blood person who does not care about Anna at all...I waited for them at the bus stop and Tsareva came first by herself and Anna came like 15min later with her suitcase and backpack, sobbing and inhaling some painkillers. Can’t believe Tsareva did not comfort Anna at all and just left her to deal with all the problems by herself...Later I saw Tsareva again and she seemed unconcerned. I wanted to ask how Anna is doing but she looked annoyed and inapproachable. So I did not...In contrast, Maria’s coach was really nice when I congratulated her for Maria and Alexander, and she told me that I can find Maria after the gala at the bus stop.

I thought Laurine was invited, too?

Thank you for these infos jiawen. I'm so confused and sad about that situation. If only someone could help Anna out of this hole.

So why exactly isn't Anna changing her coach, anyway? She still is an adult and I'm sure that everyone could still use a skater of her talent(Maybe Eteri would be out of reach). It's just odd to me.

OMG! I just talked to Anna in person!!!! She said that she’s ok, her back still hurts so she won’t be at the gala but she will be fine! She’s also wearing the “little fox” that I gave her yesterday, which makes me so happy! See my instagram post! https://instagram.com/p/Ba11xCXAqXh/

I think she tried to move to CSKA at some moment but Buianova didn't agree to take her. Eteri is out of reach - her camp is really busy. On the one hand I'm thinking about Mishin (Anna has weird jumping technique. Very often she sways right before take off) but he isn't really cheerful papa who will tell her "everything is ok". Urmanov seems to be good choice but moving to Sochi might be hard. Plushenko might be a long shot as he is relatively new to the business. Maybe Rukavicin? I always had a feeling that his team is like one big family

I only just watched the FS, and cried a thousand tears for Anna. After seeing her FS live in Helsinki, I thought maybe that was it, we'd never see her again on the ice, and I was soooo thrilled to see her back. And now this... I just can't stop crying. I'm so happy to read she says she'll be fine, though.
Man, but that was one lousy Ladies competition, pfft, and what a crap way to end it. (((((Anna)))))

Dear Anna
You are such a wonderful skater and such a gorgeous young lady, thank you for everything you gave us! But now it's the time to take care of yourself. Please take your time to heal completely and then come back again. According to the lyrics of your glorious gala performance: Rise like a phoenix!
We want to see you happy again. Lots of love and hugs :o:

You are the sweetest jiawen! Glad to see Anna able to smile.
Thank you! Anna liked my post!!! My friend told me that I hugged her too! I almost had a blackout movement and was not sure if I did 😅 Anna is so nice and sincere even though she looks so queenly! I really hope that I expressed the love to her from all of you and she feels loved by so many fans!

I think the best option for her in Russia is Goncharenko. She seems a fine psychologist and a good coach.

That's amazing! Thank you for sharing your experience. Anna sounds like a lovely young lady with great sense of style (Burberry is one of my fav brands). Sorry to hear she was still sobbing well after the competitions and her coach doesn't seem to care. :( There's tough love, and there's cruelty. Oh well, even if we do not see her at the Gala, it is nice to know the Skating Canada was obviously still so welcoming and warm-hearted towards her.

Get plenty of rest Anna, and come back stronger!

Thank you for being a messenger for all of our support Jiawen, so happy for you to have gotten a photo with Anna! And what a nice smile from her too, I'm glad she is able to feel a little happiness after such a rough weekend. Glad to know she is going to be okay, even if she's hurting a bit right now. I'm also super glad she's sitting out the gala to rest, no matter how much I want to see whatever EX she had in store. Strength and recovery, Anya!

...damn now I'm actually considering going to SA for a chance to meet Anna and show her support myself, if she doesn't pull out. The tickets are expensive but it's not too far away...

I honestly would not be surprised if she ends up going on another coaching search after this. But she is a student in Moscow, so I don't know if she'll be able to find someone without relocating. I'll be keeping an eye on the Russian media sites to see if anything comes up in this regard -- even some Russian fans commenting on stuff seemed to think Tsareva was unprofessional and that Anna needs a change (from what I could read with my very limited Russian skills).

I believe it isn't that easy. You say she is an 'adult'. But just think about, who is really the adult here? If you dedicate your life to figure skating and Anna has been coached by Anna since 2004, when she has been 6 years old, then this seems a highly complicated relationship. Anna Tsareva obviously has an ego. It's not the first time she's been critizised. At Worlds, she seemd slightly supportive, but look back at other competitions when Anna 'bombed' at 16/17. She seems sulky and disappointed with Anna, when this is obviously not what is needed. Through better and worse doesn't seem to be the motto.

The director for the Russian Fed says that Anna will undergo a medical examination when she returns to Moscow about her back.

On the one hand, that's good she's finally getting the attention she needs, on the other... is this really the first time she's seeing a proper doctor about this? It looks like the Fed is finally getting involved, though, which could mean Anna's going to start getting the help she needs. Still keeping my eye out for any more articles about the coaching situation -- rusport did put out an article about Tsareva's harsh words to Anna, so it's definitely on the fed's radar.

I’m glad that she will finally get a full medical examination of her back, but at the same time very concerned that it might be something really serious like a stress fracture on her lumbar spine, etc... I feel like after those awful falls for all these years, her back is finally giving up on her. I really hope that Anna will get the best treatment that she deserves in order to save her career. Last year, Viktoria Komova had to stop training before the Olympics because of back issues, but after receiving treatment in Germany and stopping training for 8months, she returned to training this year and will debut as an all-around gymnast again in December! I hope Anna can do the same! Even if she does not compete again, I just hope to see her skate professionally. At Skate Canada, I talked to a Japanese woman who has connections to the show business in Japan, she told me that Anna is very popular in Japan and the audience really loves her, so I’m pretty sure she will have a good professional career.

Thank you @jiawen for the updates on Anna. I am glad she will get proper medical attention for her injuries. Wishing Anna the best and hope everything works out well for her.

Reading this article just made me so so sad😭😭😭😭😭 https://m.sports.ru/tribuna/blogs/russiateam/1454680.html

I cannot believe this is what her coach said to her according to google translate :

“This is just what you could hear on TV from the corner of kiss & cry:

Tsareva: Why are you dying, do you have a leg or what? Do not you think that you need to roll the program more from beginning to end in training? What would be more than once a week, and more often? You speed, then dial, and then rytberger as from the place you do. You ride like a lifeless.

Pogorilaya: Look at how you pulled me.

Tsareva: I'm not going to approach you at all, you'll be the only one to go to competitions.

How could Tsareva have said such heartless words to a severely injured Anna after such painful falls? When Anna fell on the spin, she was right in front of where I was sitting, and her scream from the pain was so audible that the audience really felt for her. For a moment, I thought she would not get up but she did and finished the program. How brave that was! After the skate, Tsareva also made a “wtf” gesture 🤷*♀️ that was probably not caught on the TV...

I was sitting right next to Tsareva during trainings and I could hear their conversations. Unfortunately I don’t understand Russian, but it was definitely pretty harsh and aggressive, both of them to each other. Also at a point, her coach demanded her to jump around the rink non-stop, and Anna did it with a heavy corset/back support on her waist...Actually none of the other ladies jumped as much as Anna, and obviously did not fall as much and hard as Anna did. Btw, Anna was always the last one to get off the ice. Her work ethic is crazy! Ashley Wagner did not jump at all and left the rink like after 15min during the training before FS. Mind you that the training was so early, 7am before SP and 6am before FS...

What I want to say is really that Tsareva is incompetent, apathetic and narcissistic...Maybe she cares more about how she looks in her pink Louis Vuitton skirt than how Anna is feeling both physically and mentally. I would even describe their relationship as abusive ...

As for a coach change if Anna’s back injury heals, I would suggest something controversial: How about Morozov? He had successfully dealt with skaters who were fragile psychologically (Miki Ando) and those who experienced deep downs (Dennis Ten), and even what he did with Weaver/Poje is prett impressive as they are looking really good this year. Morozov also knew Anna very well for a long time as her choreographer, and he spoke very fondly about Anna, praising her work ethic and saying that “she’s an ideal athlete.” And even Anna mentioned that they have a good relationship. Of course, there is the danger as we all fear due to his notorious past with young female students, but Anna is not 18 anymore and is the same age as his wife...I just hope that he’s satisfied with his love life and Anna is not his type, so he would not prey on Anna...and he’s getting old...The point is at this moment, no coach who wants immediate result would accept Anna considering her age, injury and past meltdowns, so she really does not have many choices.

Well, the most important thing for Anna right now is to get well, both physically and mentally. I really hope that RUS federation would make the best efforts to help such a beautiful and talented young woman to overcome probably the hardest period in her life! As a fan, it really saddens me that there is so little we can do to help her, seeing how much suffering she has to endure. All we can do is to offer our unconditional love and support for her and voice our opinions and hopefully someone in a more powerful position can get the message and really helps her get through the current predicament. She deserves much better than what she’s getting right now !

somehow, I agree with this, if ever she makes a coaching change in the future, Morozov fills the dots as her best option. :hopelessness:

A little scary when a guy known for preying on young women is a young woman's best option.... Either way, I think Jiawen is right to say Anna needs to split with Tsareva. However, I am not so sure it will happen without some miracle -- even if someone is willing to take her, Anna needs to be willing to take that leap. At such a low point perhaps she will think she has nothing to lose, but she's been with Tsareva for 13 years. That's not something you leave behind easily no matter how difficult the relationship.

Either way, I hope Anna is able to make the best choices for herself going forward, and can regain her happiness and her strength to fight on.
