I love all the skater cameos. And that shoulder shimmy to Shoma? 😂 Dude must like Jason to let him do that lol. I guess they've gotten to know each other cause they keep ending up at the same competitions. :biggrin: He's an adopted member of Team Japan, ha!

And Marin is so charming and sweet. I can see what some folks like about her. :)

And that was the moment they were just about to hit the ice for FS, the most intense moment, and he was trying to loosen him up and most probably himself as well. They were seen hanging out together during most of the Ex rehearsals (which actually turned out to be more of a meet and greet session with the fans), many adorable typical Jason with the fans captured from this moment.

yesterday, I showed Jason's EX to 'Waving through a window' to some of my colleagues who are into musicals and they are fascinating about Jason's skills in terms of interpretation, feel of the music and re-creating the character, even by the costume:); they love the musical, the story and the music alone, but they praised the dimension it all got in movement on ice (as they are not into FS as I am), they were very impressed in general. They were also like: does every skater perform like Jason? do other skaters have such skills, flexibility, fluidity of movement, transitions?

Honestly, I'm very glad that Jason goes with those musical themes, bringing them to the ice reality - I think that younger audience really could connect better with such programs and maybe understand FS specifics/skills easier through such material. And he really connects with those on personal level, creating a complex performance. I re-watched this EX yesterday and it definitely will be my 'to-go' stuff, because it not only got the nice picture visually, but also an engaging substance.

I think what's cool is that his SP and EX is an opportunity for Jason to express his passion/interest in theater and musicals on the ice. He's not just skating to these programs because musicals are go-to for skating but because he sincerely respects and adores these music/the story. A lot of folks know what Hamilton is because of its pop culture impact, but Dear Evan Hanson is not as well-known and only if you are in a theater bluff (it won a few Tonys earlier this year). I think that's probably why your music friends connected to the EX because he knows the story and has managed to translate that into an ice skating routine (same with Hamilton).

Jason's EX also brought a bit of nostalgia for me because I used to be into theater a lot too. I saw Rent 5 times on Broadway (it helped I lived closer at the time) and watch a whole lot of other plays and musicals (Chicago, Cabaret revivial, etc.). These days, I don't really follow theater that much other than what manages to break into the mainstream (i.e. Hamilton, Avenue Q, etc.). I like Hamilton and Lin-Manuel Miranda is a lyrical genius, but Dear Evan Hanson (I listened to the whole soundtrack yesterday) had much more of a connection for me. It has that slice of life/human condition aspect that drew me to Rent two decades ago. So I'm thrilled that Jason introduced it to those of us who don't follow theater as much these days. :)

It's going on National Tour next year, so I hope I get to catch it when it comes near me!

ETA: Or maybe I just live under a rock, LOL. I guess Dear Evan Hanson cast is going to be on the Macy's float on Thanksgiving. You have to have some pop culture relevance for that. :)

Given the average age of web producers, it's close (I kid --- but they do tend to be on the younger side like 20s). It's kind of an awkward format, I think it's sort of a like "go-to portal" for each of the athletes and designed to give someone who doesn't know anything about skating or the athlete a basic rundown, but I agree the layout is a bit much.

I really like the first picture especially, but did you notice the sub-headline?

“Get to know figure skater Jason Brown and his major accomplishments before he competes at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics”

Kind of sloppy to imply he’s already been selected. Even assuming they do the same thing for all potential team members, it is bound to confuse some fans when some of the skaters they read about are, inevitably, not selected for the team.

And some people are also going to think it's a sign that they have already been selected..I mean it's silly, but then some people thought he got to go in 2014 because his mum is friends with Arsenio :laugh2:
 
Another article that assumes Jason is Olympics bound, although at least this one is from some Internet site I've never heard of, (Daily Dot?) and therefore has more of an excuse than NBC. Also one of the first examples, I think, of Hamilton driving interest in Jason:

So a bit OT, but I guess I wasn’t really following figure skating very closely before the last Olympics. Was NBC, etc, mostly focused on Gracie and Ashley, and maybe Davis &White? Were there articles about the return of Evan or about the other US men likely to make the team? I don’t think Jason was really on anyone’s radar then, except maybe on this board and FSU. Who were they talking about?
 
Gracie and Ashley definitely Got the most play. Max, because he was the reigning champ and also Jeremy, were invited to photo shoots, but there was more about whether Evan would come back. Davis and White and the Shibs some. Coughlin and Denny had a spread in my US Weekly Olympic magazine.

I think Agnes Zawadski was invited to photo shoots as the reigning bronze medalist, but Ross Miner didn't even though he was the silver medalist. I think on the whole they invited way more skaters this time around. And Josh, despite being the Jr. World champ and reigning pewter medalist didn't get that much attention either.

There was also a lot of Nancy and Tonya coverage cause it was the 20th anniversary of the whack.
