Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Just Yay! yay for it overall! yay for the level four on the non-touching! yay for the new highest score for them! and yay for Gabby not letting that small blimp in the twizzles cost them a level!

But who was that in the kiss and cry with them? Catherine Pinard?

Pattern got a very good score (in comparaison to what everyone received through the season)
NO touch level 4 yes !
Twizzles : +2 in majority because Guillaume did one more turn, thankfully they were very very clean otherwise it would have been worst.
Pst 3 : I actually saw a tweet that said they were a couple of turns that could be a bit more neat (hence the level3) on the other hand : they maxed out on the GOEs ! :agree:
They can get more points on the final lift, so they'll see that.

But overall it was so well skated, so fun, and man, that pattern was so good. I was :eekn:
(with that score, a Pst4 would have gotten them 82.90, so... next time, no glitches guys get all your levels !! But that "almost" doesn't matter because I want them to pick at the right time  )

I'm going to have to rewatch: i don't think guillaume did one more turn: I think gabby was just a little early leaving the last rotation......... 0.25 speed on youtube here I come......

Edit:I don't think there was an extra turn, they just leave the second set of twizzles differently.
Edit2: No, I'm wrong; Anyasnake you are right. Guillaume does an extra turn.....(or gabby does one too few)

Yeah the change of camera angle is working against me haha ! However, there is margin with twizzles and lifts and it really means that they can have even more points.
I'm truly impressed. Who would have thought Latin SD would be the answer ?

No, you are right: the camera change was confusing me! I had to watch twice- one time counting Gabi's turns and one time counting Guillaume's. Guillaume def. does one more. Looking back at COC, they are supposed to do 5 turns. They only actually need four with the blade held to get the feature though, so presumably that is why they didn't drop a level for it.

I got home to great news! Despite the twizzle mistake and a couple of slips in the Pst, they got a level 4 non-touch! :hap57: AND they're both growing into the performance, Gaby truly sells the hell out of it

I was hoping that France would save us from the terrible camera work we had in China, but clearly, I was wrong

It's one too much, so no dropping of levels, but thankfully the rest of the twizzles were excellent. :drama:

Gabi is truly their secret weapon.......... Plus it all feels so genuine.......

Can someone please translate or roughly summarize what they are talking about in that video? Thank you in advance. :)

Marie-France says they have the x-factor, they have great chemistry since they have skated together for so long. They are a choreographer's dream.

Some interesting stuff about V/M; Gabi says that they felt insecure during the season and that as a result they made a lot of dumb mistakes across competitions. Romain says they didn't win Worlds because they also weren't perfect and they have to take responsibility going forward. This year they are trying to be more tactical in their approach (I like that word, tactical).

About the SD: they like Shape of You because they feel it's a song people like dancing to, and they are trying to create a "party"-like feeling. They explain that they feel more comfortable in the FD because it's more about them and they are free to explore their own sensibility. Guillaume continues to be a lot more shy than Gabi

Thank you so much! I was puzzled during that changing-room scene; P/C are there with V/M and it is preceded by dramatic music. I didn't know what they were trying to say there. Thank you again for the summary! :)

I just got caught up on watching the video, and I'm really loving how this program is developing from competition to competition. It seems to gain a bit more in 'Latin-ness' each time, but without ever losing the party-dance feeling and slipping over into Latin ballroom. I noticed a difference in how Gabriella was using her head and upper body this time that really added something extra to the performance, and if that gels with everything else* at the GPF they're going to blow the audience away even more than usual!

*I don't know enough about levels to talk about them with anything resembling confidence yet, but I know that they are tricky to get...

Yesssssssssssssss, happy they are steadily solidifying the +80, increasing ever so slightly but peaking at the right time is what is all about. Within the very short time they had, they did change quite a bit a small details. They have a great capacity to have their programs evolve, and it's one of the thing I love because you never get bored with their performances. The other top teams do it too of course, but I don't notice so many changes. Maybe because I don't watch them on repeat like P/C's

I noticed that they linked hands before going into the final poses, whearas before he would be positioned on the same line as her but a little farther away so that she could touch his chest. Also she didn't play with her pony tail this time but instead did a "I'm so hot" face-touching thing.

I stumbled upon this while looking for IdF SD video's. (I think I did not see a link yet posted here, if it's old hash to you guys, I'm sorry, I'll remove this post.)

There is no need to remove this video.:) It shows the evolution of Gabi and Gui as skaters and as a couple. They have done a lot to imrove their skating skills, interaction with each other, confidence and style. It is amazing that they could progress so fast within a short period of time. Thank you!

Gearing up for today. I don't understand a word but it seems to be a nice interview:scratch2::laugh: Plus fragments from the FD practice. http://www.ledauphine.com/skichrono...izeron-papakadis-toujours-pousser-nos-limites

Thanks for the video:). I am not French so this is more of a gist of things...hope it helps a bit:)

Gabriella says winning gold is their goal for this competition, and the competition is a step towards Olympics. They want to perform as best they can and if possible beat their own records.

Guillaume says they are concentrated on each step along their path/journey, and very concentrated on this competition in Grenoble, which is an important part of the first half of the season, and they are moving ahead one stage/step at a time.

What they took away from their competition in Helsinki according to Gabriella is that they made a few errors in the SD, losing a few points, so this year they worked really hard to improve their programme technique - and they are succeeding at the moment. It is hard work that is bearing fruit and they hope that will continue.

According to Guillaume what they dream about is to constantly improve, to accomplish more - artistically and sportingly - to perform better and more and more precisely all the time and they have integrated more and more people into their team, with new people who can teach them new things and help them complete their “education” and they are always trying to push their own limits.

Gabrielle says they are completely focused on the Olympic games as they are their first and are not thinking further ahead than that. They are still very young and it is difficult to think about the post-Olympics.

Guillaume says they don’t feel like they have really sacrificed a lot for their sport, but have had to invest more and more time in training as they progressed, which had an impact on the time allocated to education or the time they could spend with friends etc…and then leaving to Canada meant they were away from their families and close friends, but they still see it as a cool life and they are not unhappy. It is just a life that requires more discipline than regular students for example, so sometimes they have to push themselves and it is not always easy – psychologically- to do so.

In terms of stress Gabriella says they feel that it gets more difficult with time as the more successful they are, the more success people expect and hope for and mistakes begin to cost more and they put pressure on themselves, wanting to be the best and their competitors progress as well so they can’t rest on their laurels, so there is always pressure but this pressure is also what drives them forward pushes them to improve, so it is a good kind of pressure.

Asked about what is natural and what remains a challenge about skating together Guillaume says as they progress some things become easy and more natural and they progress further and do different things - not all working - but sometimes this means what they learned before is somewhat forgotten and must be refreshed and practiced again, like musicians who need to keep practicing. It’s constant work on technique, on artistry and on interpretation, as well as on the mental aspects, as their personalities and the challenges they face evolve, and the sport itself evolves and they need to evolve with it.
