Can we all take a second to give a shout out to Adam Rippon. So many people were throwing him under the bus yesterday and saying that he had no chance against Jason. Myself and a few others mentioned that the strength of his free program could make the difference and that's exactly what happened. He placed second in the free program and moved up from 4th to take the silver medal at the NHK and I couldn't be prouder!!!!!!
I thought Adam should have been ahead of Jason in the SP as well.

If you look at the list jest referenced, guess who are the US 1, 2, and 3 men. Nathan, Adam, and Max. I really like that trio too!
This is my hope for the Olympic team for the USA. Nathan of course. But Jason has not distinguished himself and has already been and Vincent needs the quads and has not been consistent and will, if he stays healthy, have a chance to go next quad. Adam and Max have both been US champions and their work is paying off. So I am hoping Nathan, Adam and Max.

I'm not counting Jason out yet. He tends to peak at the right time and it's funny how after one bad competition so many people have written him off.
Adam and Max are in an interesting position. Looking at both their Grand Prix events they have a chance to medal or a chance to get buried. I would argue SA has the tougher field. TdF has Shoma and Javi (will he be back in form is the question?) but many of the skaters there are quite beatable if Max skates clean, his problem is consistency. If he can keep that up he could very well medal. For Adam, if Boyang, Nathan, and Sergei skate clean he will have to be perfect to overcome the TES deficit.
There are too many possibilities over the next few weeks for me to say anything with confidence. I guess that's what makes it exciting to watch!

I think it´s not really likely that Boyang and Chen will skate clean because of their many quads, but I´d assume them to beat Rippon with their technical content anyway. Voronov may not be as good as he was in NHK, but still he might beat Rippon with his technical content, unless a miracle happens and Rippon might land a real guad lutz... (I hope the technical panel does their job properly regarding every skater).

I had no idea that Adam Rippon could sing...
I am always critical of people who "Try" singing and I couldn't believe it when I heard Adam. Maybe he and Yuna can hook up and make a video some time. I remember gagging when Tonya Harding and Eman sang :disapp:......But Adam was actually quite good.

I had no idea that Adam Rippon could sing...
It’s a shame the sound quality in the rink was so poor. I would’ve liked to hear what he sounds like with proper acoustics now. Maybe we’ll get a gala performance to the track he recorded at his next event.
FYI both Mirai and Ashley have posted Instagram stories of Adam singing acapella so I already knew he was quite good.

Congrats again to Adam for the silver at NHK.
You wouldn't know it from his gala performance, but Adam had objected
to singing for NBC (in footage recorded at the spring promotional shoot, I think?):

a la Shakespeare), foot-stamping 
and all.
Adam appears in the video for the first time at approx. 1:40, and more bits from him are spread out over the next forty seconds.
In the same NBC video (re "Olympic talent"), Ashley spoke gibberish and the Knierims showed their hula-hooping skills.

Nathan Chen is my biggest rival. He won the national title while I had to sit out in 2017. I have been training with Nathan for the past five years. I feel like he's a little brother. I'm really proud of what he's been able to achieve and in practice, he pushes me to be unafraid and better than I was the day before.

It's unfortunate to see both US men struggle so much, after placing well in CoC. However, with skating like this, neither deserves to be in the GPF.... but at least there's some hope for the US making the GPF with their more stellar skaters, Chen/Brown/Rippon!
And thank goodness for Chock and Bates because the US Men, Ladies and Pairs are so far subpar.
Well, as someone who entered this season thinking Vincent Zhou was a probable Olympic team member, his SPs have cast a lot of doubt on that assumption. I do think the powers that be would like him on the team, but the results aren't backing that yet.
Interested to see what the long program brings, as well as Skate America. Amongst the 5 men in contention, only Chen seems to have the resume to warrant placing him on the team whatever the Nationals result, and I'm sure it wouldn't come to that anyway. I imagine the other two spots will just be whomever is 2+3, assuming Nathan wins.

I think more than anything Vincent's inexperience is showing. We know he has the potential to be fabulous. I just think the next quad is going to be his time.
As for Max, I feel so badly for him- he hasn't been able to find consistency. I hope they both have better longs.

I think it's partially inexperience with Vincent along with a recent growth spurt. He hasn't really grown into his body yet and is still all arms and legs. And I don't understand why he's doing 4F in the SP because I thought his two best quads were 4Z and 4S. The difference in BV is marginal.
Max fell on the backend 3T of his combo that he normally pops into a double. I don't know why he has such trouble with that jump when top jumpers should be able to do that in their sleep.

Rewatching Max he seems to drop his skating side back into the circle on his landings because he is not checking out of the jumps correctly giving them that swingy look. It is like he is reaching for the ice to touch down instead of standing tall over the blade.

As I've said in the past, the things with Vincent really don't surprise me all that much, yes I think he's talented but he has a long way to go to mature into the skater he's ultimately going to be. He is definitely 2022 material IMHO. The Fed needs to stop pushing him and let him develop.
