Javier Fernandez

I've always liked Javi well enough, but was seriously impressed today. He's done great work on details for this program and I'm glad he's getting credit for it.

So happy for Javi's SP redemption and hoping he has an equally good FS today. Vamos, Javi!!!

It irks me somewhat that the Swedish commentators seem not to know that he was ill at Cup of China - how can they not know? Oh, well...

Neither did the British Eurosport commentators know about the food-poisoning.

Javi was fantastic, I´m so happy for him! That Chaplin hat was an excellent idea!!!

In the freeskate Javi had a good draw, only Shoma to skate after him.

I couldn't believe what Javi did yesterday! He was so calm, so focus... And he did a clean, almost perfect program. The best version of Javi is back!
I have to admit that I miss a little the old Chaplin, it was more funny and emotional. But this is a mature Javi and a much better skater, now he can shine with programs like this. I can grow to love this new version too. 🙌

Javi's FS practice this morning was the best I've ever seen from him. Everything was smooth and utterly perfect! He took a very long time again to get to the jumps, but he was much more relaxed than in yesterday's practice. And the jumps worked like magic! He aborted the 3Lz as he was looking down at the ice just before takeoff, but nailed it afterward, as EVERYTHING else! He did 4T, 3A+2T, 4S, 3Lo, 3Lz, 3F+1Lo+3S during the runthrough and again all of them pure perfection! Speechless... Now let's just hope he can channel this brilliance tonight as well!!!

I don't know which made me happier: Javi's smile at the end of his skate, or Brian jumping for joy when he nailed the opening combo. Bless the Cricket Club family. Bless.

Well... a win, not bad. I suffered a lot watching the LP, I was with my mum and we turned off the TV just when he finished. Glad to know that it was enough to win. I think he still lacks a bit of stamina, the stomach bug hit him hard:(
Idk if this win gives him a little chance to the GPF:think: but well, if not, he has plenty of time to prepare nationals and Europeans. Good fight Javi!

Whew! A win's a win, and I will take it. Congratulations Javi! Rest up, regroup, and come back strong for Nationals and Euros! :console:

Well, I'm still in a state of shock, because I honestly didn't see this skate coming. Everything about Javi pointed in the other direction today, including a confident warmup before the FS. And then this happened... I'm going to try and focus on the positives: this FS was definitely much better than two weeks ago, and Javi won! It was wonderful to see him on the top of the podium again!

He still has a tiny chance for GPF but it would require 2/3 of the contenders at SA (Nathan, Boyang, and Adam) to bomb really badly. So probably not (and I like all of those guys too so I really don’t want them to bomb). But I’m really really happy he won here, and this will have given him some confidence back, especially that amazing short! The judges also clearly still want him to do well. He still has Euros for a major international competition before the Olympics, so I think he’s less hurt from missing the GPF than others. Congratulations on your gold medal Javi! (Or actually, your giant blue plastic star )

Congrats on the win. Even though his FS was not something he should remember, nor the... eh... medal. But still this is a confidence boost.

Congratulations to Javi on his win. I really liked his La Mancha program from the very first time I saw him skate it. It wasn't his best today, but the SP was wonderful. Everything in the SP just had this light and airy feel to it. I'm sure he was glad to have Brian back in the K & C with him.

I also mentioned in the competition thread that the Spanish fans are so fun! Apart from their cheering, they really seem to get into wearing their Spain hats, shirts, face paints, and bringing their flags! They know how to have a good time! :hap57:

Javi said at the presser after FS that he started feeling some pain in his hip flexor after the third jump, which may be the reason that he had some difficulty in holding on the rest of his jumps. He did look sort of in pain skating towards Brian after the FS. This made me concerned, as he did receive some anti-inflammation shot for his hip in the summer of 2016. I hope there is nothing serious and it can be healed soon with a good rest.

BTW, he did get the unreachable star at the end, and it's blue.

Oh no...hope it isn't anything serious either...all that jumping and practicing over the years. The additional unreachable star would be an Olympic medal.... but that is going to a be a fight. I love the Man of La Mancha program...hope it can be skated clean next time. But most of all, hope Javier remains in good health!

I think that his unfortunate food-poisoning in China will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, so to speak... Now he can start training gradually and there is no haste for the GPF to be in full condition there.

Anyway, feeling very happy for his win here which he sure deserved because of the cushion he got from his wonderful sp. Hopefully this win will be a boost to him for next important competition!!! First he has the Nationals and in January the Europeans. At the Europeans he sure needs to be almost perfect, but save being totally perfect for the Olympics where the peaking must happen!!!

I just realized, that not only Javi won't have to travel for GPF, but also Brian wouldn't have to. None of his pupils qualified. So they can all use time and calmly preapre in Toronto. Maybe that would be a good thing?

Yeah, he’ll have time to get all of his students ready for Nationals. This will be good for Javi in particular since Brian doesn’t got with him to his Nationals. We all know it’s a piece of cake for Javi, but nevertheless a good performance is a confidence booster.

I shall never get tired of Danny Boy, I loved seeing it at the Gala. And his jumps looked very solid, I’m glad he got some redemption with the 3A in the finale. Congrats Javi for this win! Now on to recharge batteries for the second half of the season!
