There is no way she could compete/train at least a month for now. Bone fractures don't heal in 2 weeks. I have a medical background.

Well i do hope she will get a pass for Nationals but there are so many good girls aiming for the spots I am not sure Russian fed will be happy to see her sit out of Nationals. Even though if I were Russian fed I would give her a pass, she has proven herself to be that good and consistent after all. But I am not them. I hope they will think of her health first. They’re smart, though,You are too optimistic. Bones recovery is slow. Also do not forget about muscles rehabilitation after forced inactivity and "training anew" period - going to high-level competition without it is suicide. I would honestly advice to skip both GPF and Nationals at least.
I don’t get your idea about Kwan’s injury didn’t hurt her in 1998. What kind of injury that doesn’t hurt? This is basically a Kwan Redux from 1998. Take the time off, maybe focus on new or better choreo. Kwan's injury didn't hurt her in 1998. Even without the injury, TeamKwan thought she was a lock for Oly gold and wasn't going for difficult program/s compared to Tara. 3toe in the short, no 3/3 in the long. I think Medvedeva has more of a competitive instinct and won't wimp out like Kwan did. Might as well rest up now for a month and heal then worsen it later on in the season.

I see. The point for Medvedeva is... if she takes a while to fully heal, can she upgrade her layout to be more competitive compared to other ladies? Higher BV the better chance but it comes with risk. What I meant was, that like Med, Kwan didn't skate well at her second GP, due to injury. She then took six to eight weeks off until Nationals. The injury was healed enough that she was able to give iconic performances at Nationals, so competitively it didn't hurt her. Her scaling back her programs was what cost her, but she had the same content before the injury that she had at Nagano. Kind of holding on for dear life, but she still skated a clean ultraconservative program that even she knew with Tara's two 3/3s was going to be a nailbiter. Her injury did not hurt her competitively at Nats or Olys.
Europeans predates the World Championships, the Olympics and the founding of the ISU. Forty years later they even let women compete.
Four Continents -- that was just something they came up with because they felt sorry for the rest of the world.![]()
I agree 100%, I think the statements is basically a WD announcement. Tbh, she doesn't need GPF, she needs to heal and be ready for either Nationals or Euros depending on how bad the fracture is. Sure, she will lose some momentum, but it's better than losing a chance to go to the Olympics and be able to perform well. She's not going to go the GPF on no ice training. What is she supposed to do, remove the cast on the morning of the competition? I think this statement should be taken as very strongly suggesting a WD, not some sort of nefarious plot to sway the judges or something. Hopefully the fact that Yuzu is also not going will help Zhenya put this competition in perspective. She has nothing to gain by going to the finals beyond denying Alina some momentum.
Medvedeva withdrawing doesn't hurt her, as long as she wins Europeans, but does help Zagitova. The youngster will receive a further reputation bonus with a GPF win. Another way to look at it is this helps Russia in the Team event, since they likely want to split the Ladies and now both ladies will look unbeatable to the judges in their segments.
