2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

So... What's the youngest age for a skater to have landed a triple, even underrotated, in competition? Ksenia Melkumova did this at 8 years, 7 months and 15 days of age! I can't imagine there being too many others in the 8-year-old club. Also, the entry:

RBI rocker RFI counter and into the Loop Loop entry

None of the jump passes in this SP were clean but the attitude in going for these entries at 8 years of age - Admirable!

It was the first example that sprung to my mind on that mind ;) I was browsing recently some results from this season so it came in handy by random chance. Some of the names are completely obscure for me, like the Russian Silver medallists in World Junior Ice Dance Mikhailova / Sergeev from that year. I was not keeping attention to juniors almost at all in that time so it's interesting data to look at.

Anyway none of the top girls came close with their points to medallists in Junior Men in 2017 WJCH, while there's an interesting titbit back from 2006.

Well, Alexandra Trusova had higher BV than #2 and #3 of men's free skate. And her PCS before the factors was higher than anyone's for men.

Of course, it's tough to compete when men have 1 more element and a higher PCS factor - But if we were talking about them competing in the same event, that wouldn't be the case. In that scenario, I'd argue Trusova could have easily placed second.

Six years ago, in late 2011, Anastasia Gubanova landed 3F in competition at 8y11m.

So she still has a whole 4 months to land a ratified one to become the youngest? :shocked: Or 3 and a half months I guess...

Really, who knows? That'd be a very impressive entry even in a senior grand prix event.

Even the entry to the first combo was pretty ridiculous with RBI Mohawk LFO rocker LBO counter LFO 3turn directly into 2flip.

I don't think I've seen anyone in these competitions doing anything like this, even the 07s who have every triple don't do entries such as these.

Polina Plakhotnaya lands 3T+2T and 3S, but she's 08, which means 9 years old

Yes, she is almost 10 years old - About 9 years and 10 and half months old. Recently I recall Berestovskaya landing some triples at 9 years and 3 months old. But 8 years and 7 months old? That's quite something.

We'll see what Dzepka does in a week but I'd be really surprised if she had triples. If she did, she would be 2 months younger than Melkumova.
 
i think if trusova did 4t and 4s she would be like Nathan Chen now and we’d be seeing a quad revolution in ladies skating
 
I just want to say, there is some absurdly high level competition for 7-10yo taking place in Moscow these days.

It truly has to be the Lipnitskaya effect, right? The 09-10 age group is just so incredibly deep and talented in comparison to most of the older age groups.

You wonder how long that's going to last. Will the 11-12s be as strong, even stronger? Or will the talent level already be declining at that point...

She would have also won the Men's free skate in 2010 if you use the same PCS factoring that the men had
 
Sotskova receives +2 and +3 on her jumps, doesn’t she? Her tech score has been 70+ several times. So I guess the judges don’t have any problem with her tano jumps?
Sotskova is looking like a sure bet for the team unless Tatiana wants Radionova to go instead, I really don’t know. When is the ladies short program??!!!!????

Who is Tatiana?

As for team Buyanova, I´m pretty sure that Buyanova will put all her influence to send one of her girls to Olys, and it will be Masha, since she has better prospects. Whatever Buyanova's personal preferences are, I´m sure she will send whoever has better chances to bring a medal home.
