2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I think Kostornaya's SP is superb, with lots of nuances and she skated like an adult lady; but her LP is opposite: the music and choreography do not give her much character at all. From my computer seeing her alone, she gave me the impression she is taller than Trusova, but she is actually shorter, perhaps the shortest among Eteri's girls this season? So that junior feeling might be from her height too.

continuing this tradition Kostornaya should win next Russian Nationals
*Haahh*... Reminder that there does exist a certain someone who likely is artistically the most talented ladies' skater in history who also just so happens to have been landing a clean and fully rotated 4t-3t combo before being old enough to be junior eligible( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T8gDHKHLqgE ).

It is already past midnight or Monday over here, so the countdown is at 19days to go~

Edit: -.- Sorry, me with dates *facepalm*

How is Alena Kostornaya so polished for one her age and also coming from Eteri's group? Her lines are fantastic. Does she have a different sub-coach?

I get the impression that she is very close to Daniil who does her choreography. Actually I sort of get the feeling she works with him the most but that’s just speculation. But what a nice benefit that is and one a lot skaters don’t have...working on a daily basis with their choreographer. The amount of time they can put into the steps and how to maximize her abilities within a program. She seems to have a very strong connection to music and just knows how to make her movements reflect the mood of the music which is a huge plus.

What’s seems hard to believe.....in an interview after JGPF she said her favorite part of skating is the jumps. I remember reading in an interview that if they make a mistake in practice they have to go back and redo the entire program.

Kostornaya has some cool steps into solo jumps that boost her transitions/skating skills/ and count as a difficult entrance all at the same time. Like this which is one of the coolest any skater is doing this year.

Alena said that she skated on Carmen 2 seasons and thus it's easy for her to dance to short. I noticed that the movements and especially the movement of the hands are not very different in the 2 programs.

tbh I didn't see anything special in Alena last season. Yes, she has good basics skating skills but as a lot of Russian girls.
Alena Kostornaia's last season's FS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBVlFcippwk
if somebody told me that THIS girl will be 3rd in RN in next season...

She didn't have consistency but it's understandable because she was coming after an injury. But she had this beautiful hands' movement.

soooo not true. :sarcasm:
Alena: "Well, in generally 90% of our practices are in jokes so it's why we support each other."

I guess I misunderstood Tatijana there. Pretty big difference too  Always cool though to learn more about the training and friendship within the group....thanks!

Russian jr nationals should be even more competitive than the senior nationals, which is pretty crazy to think about. I wonder if the nationals performance is going to bring Kostornaya's pcs up due to her excellent performance at senior nationals, also... Which would mean that she probably is the favorite to win.
You can copy/paste text from VK post into google translate for this. :agree:
I guess that is true isn't it...

Unless Trusova wouldn't bring her 3A, 4T package ;)

Cant see her landing that all clean when se has yet to even land a clean fully rotated quad. Maybe next season but not in a month.

Even if the quad is not completely clean, it is still a huge advantage. Ladies are allowed to repeat only two triples, which means that they can have maximum seven triples in the FS (eight triples if someone can do triple axel). Even if Trusova’s quad is not clean and brings ‘only’ as many points as a triple jump, it is still as if she was allowed to do an extra triple in comparison with the others. So that puts her ahead.

True as well. But if she falls 2 of them and also has to expend a lot of energy for the actual quads, can she then perform the rest of her program clean and. stick to her presentation? If she can, having all 3 even as planned ur falls is easily worth it. But it would be a lot to ask...

And by "the rest of her program" I mean 7 triples on 4 jump passes, including a 3lz-3lo combo. If she would have to simplify the rest you know its not worthwhile.

Well, she has performed the quad at every competition this season, and no matter how successful or not succesful the quad was, she always performed the rest of the program clean and always had enough strength to stick to her presentation, so I am not sure why it should suddenly change now. If you noticed her jump content, she doesn’t simplify the rest of the program. She does the quad on top of the seven triples.
Considering she does the same triples as everyone else (the maximum allowed), and on top of that she does a quad while everyone else can do only a double, with a fall she would have comparable TES with the others, so no harm done.
