2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

unfortunately her rotation speed isn't that good...

Yes but if she can work on the lift , speed and pull too give herself as much height as she can, there’s some promise... she can pick up a lot of speed , has the height, And Is powerful, despite the slow rotation speed, if she can out all of those together, she could just pull the 3axel out some day

Not really she can speed up her rotation speed at this point. I doubt.

The 2A is huge but I really don't think she has the rotation speed in reserve. Even the 3Lz is borderline UR at times and it's massive.

Impressive triples is all we'll get in my opinion.

It is not all about rotation speed. Tuktamysheva and Nagasu are not super fast with their rotation in the air either and yet they both repeatedly landed 3A.

both of them are not 173 cm tall. ANd they don't have so much health problems

I guess she could if Tuktamysheva has as well. I still somewhat doubt it, however.

I agree that the height goes against her, but Tuktamysheva has a figure that is not very helpful for skating (boobs and hips) and yet she landed 3A. So if Tuktamysheva can do it despite her disadvantage, Polina could too. I think Tuktamysheva’s disadvantage is much biggr than Polina’s height. She is tall, but pretty slim and not very curvy.

no, powerful and strong hips helps you a lot with axels)

Bigger hips significantly slow down rotation. Men’s figure is much more suitable for jumps.

Well, if we think about the usual 3A jumpers or even just the general Japanese body type(the group of skaters who have the most 3Aers by far), we note that body types like Tuktamysheva's have generally been successful with the 3A. It's almost the Midori Ito body type. Even Rika Kihira isn't someone I'd describe a stick figure and her rotation speed also isn't super fast. It's fine but it isn't as fast as even Alexandra Trusova's(Who is faster than any men apart from Nathan Chen, who apparently is the fastest male rotator). And Shcherbakova of course is about 20% faster than Trusova.

Had been, before injury. :con3:

We'll see in two weeks, how much has left of it.

Can Anna not get back to her usual rotational speed ever again after her injury? Is that a standard thing? Or do you mean it may just take longer than she needs, with junior national coming up soon?

Also, it’s fascinating to me that Trusova is such a fast rotator, but her double toes in her combo jump look so laboured. I wonder if it would flow better if she’s did double toe then double loop instead?

Well, it was complicated fracture, the recovery was rather slow, she's been out for half a year.
I think, it'd be a stretch to expect she'll be at the same fitness level as before at her very first start.
I hope they play it safe, because she's certainly worth preserving her talent.

That's true, of course. I don't think she should lose it though, as long as she gets back to form. Which I really hope she will, even if it takes a while.

I don't know what time it's from exactly(I don't think they would record it all in one sitting and publish it that same day? Well, maybe they would) but her rotation speed in that one small 2A clip is at least roughly the same as her rotation for 2As and triples before and it also looks about the same in the air. That 2A just had absolutely no height to it. I wonder when exactly that was recorded?

In any case, she'll have had at least around 4 weeks of additional practice time since that clip until her supposed first competition. We'll see what state her jumps are there. If she gets her rotation back, she will need next to no height for triples.

I think Trusova has the same thing that Medvedeva does--she's used to doing triple toes so she has to control herself not to make it a triple!

Moskva Cup on January 13-14

Today a very large portion of the names stopped being greyed out, which I can only assume means that these entries have been confirmed(Paid for, perhaps?). It is a pretty big list, but at least includes Anna Shcherbakova for the junior category. Kamila Valieva also was supposed to participate but it appears that she has withdrawn because her name no longer appears on the list. The other name I recognize is Alena Kanysheva. For seniors, we have Ekaterina Mitrofanova and Sofia Istomina seemingly confirmed out of the ones I can recognize. Viktoria Vasilieva's name still is greyed out and she would likely be the most notable competitor in the senior category here.

It will be interesting to see how this competition will relate to the junior nationals that will be a week after it. At least for one person...
