Top Prospects of Russian ladies

Uliana Vasilieva sighted here, a competition starting tomorrow(28-29 December).

Margarita Bazylyuk yesterday here. Better than a week ago. More convincing, better upper body. She's really good for 6yo. Looks like a fully rotated 2+2, also. Also, try to not smile while watching. It's a real challenge.

Almost missed her because she wasn't listed. Shows you that it's good to go through the videos.

Side note, my Elena Kostyleva video from 6 days ago that I've advertized nowhere has 288 views somehow(That's a lot).

They screwed her music up. But she adjusted very fast and also proved that she doesn't simply just execute choreo with background music.

This was her best skate ever jump-wise at least and also her highest score that I've ever seen, breaking the 40 point barrier.

But how difficult can it be to start a music track from the beginning?

Oh, massive props for this overlay. A random local tournament gets a higher tech overlay than Russia Cup.
 
She was a bit slower, but jumped higher. Seems to have some nice spring - that 1A looked silly easy for her. :gclap:
She's from Pavlovo town, nearby Moscow - I bet she's being scouted by capital's coaches already.

Same trainer as Uliana Vasilieva. They also are about the same age. I found her to be surprisingly good, actually - I've never really paid so much attention to her before. Chances are that she got heavily overscored due to that competition not really having anyone apart from her or Vasilieva at a decent level, but she's not bad. While her jumps don't have the "spring" Vasilieva's do and her spins are frankly quite bad, the skating is reasonably good and the upper body movements also are good. She's not very expressive facial expression-wise but on the flip side, she's very beautiful.

It's quite interesting that this small town can still produce girls at this level. Because both of these can actually skate(Though Vasilieva is clearly better, obviously). 60000 people in the town, huh...
 
I've seen the videos of the recent competition at CSKA (Призы Деда Мороза 2017, 21-24 December).
The level of the girls born in 2006 and 2007 is impressive! In addiction to the phenomenal trio of 2007 Samodelkina, Akatyeva and Berestovskaya (FS with 7 triples - Akatyeva all in the second half - and 3Lz+3T combos) and the two good skaters of Team Davydov Muravyova and Liventseva born in the second half of 2006 see:

Looking very quiet competition-wise to start the year. I find almost no one I recognize amongst the participants. Of course, new discoveries are still very possible. The good thing is that the only one I do recognize is one of my favorites, Ksenia Melkumova here on January 15. Still 2 weeks until then, though.

What I'm hoping to see is some sign of hope regarding the jumps(Please!). Apart from that, a lvl 4 step sequence? Nah, there's no way that's possible...
 
I also realized that Junior National competition will be held in Saransk. I guess that will be the same ice rink with bad light and about 10 percentage of arena fill. Just horrible. But in the last year that wasn't better. In Chelyabinsk (2016) still were the best Junior Nationals: live stream, full arena and really amazing atmosphere. Sigh.
 
Updates:

- Skaters of 2005-2009 years were divided into eligible groups
- Sofia Dzepka was marked by gray and got unknown status

Some observations:

2005, 2006 - very weak years. No one has more than three stars. But I'd pay attention to Kanysheva, Moroz (struggles with jumps but skates beautifully), Usacheva, Valieva, Frolova and Khromykh. Someone of them will get the fourth star in the future, I guess. But who? [emoji848]

2007 - three super talents + Anastasia Zinina + maybe someone also will appear as a star. Very nice group! But very said that Akatieva and Berestovskaya are not eligible.

2008 - pretty decent year, but hard to say who will survive.

2009 - incredible year of talents, three superstars: Dzepka, Vaisilieva, Melkumova. And many other very talented girls who can also have five stars in the future. But again, sad that two amazing talents Vasilieva and Dzepka are not eligible.

2010 - also pretty decent year, but considering the age, this is really hard to say about who of them will be a supernova. We should wait and see.

2011 - very nice year with the great talents: Elena Kostyleva, Margarita Bazyluk and Polina Borovskih. Many other very talented kids, and also we could not see all skaters of this age group.
 
As for Shcherbakova, I hope they changed her SP, her hair is cute there but the bad 'music' and stupid choreo are painful to watch. It's not as bad as Akatieva's SP music and choreo, but still.

I also wonder will they change her FP's layout after injury, I mean 3Lz+3Lo combo and all jumps in the second half.

But really very exciting to see her skating again.

I hope they changed it too. She always gets very low PCS for it and has to play catch-up. The choreo is to me very empty after the very beginning and the stiff hands don't work for her at all when they're so beautiful during the gentle movements such as with her 15-16 or 16-17(especially) FS's or even 14-15 SP. It just completely wastes one of the best aspects of her interpretation. It's still an enjoyable watch but she could do so, so much more if she got a SP in the style like she had in 14-15 which is here. Even the 15-16 FS has far more highlights than her current SP despite her not being nearly at her current level artistically. Using this SP is such a waste! And it'd be her third season with it. Change it!

They seriously had to completely mess up to have such a bad program because it's the least favorite of mine and fits her strengths by far the worst out of every single program I've seen by her, even down to when she was 7 years old. I hope they don't whiff so poorly on a program ever again. And if they do, I hope they don't repeat it like they did with this one!

I actually found this performance by Elena Kostyleva from when she was 5 years and 1 month old here.

I wonder how long she had been skating at that point. The improvement has been so huge in just a year, in every aspect imaginable. It really makes me wonder where she could already be after one more year? Jun. 1 category next season already? That'd be where Dzepka was. Right now she's far better and more advanced than Dzepka was at 6 so it'll be interesting to see how the development continues.

I just realized watching it, that Anna was older there than Sofia Akatieva now and would have been destroyed scoring-wise in such virtual duel (although Anna was more elegant and fluent). Progress of Russian ladies is INSANE. :eek:

Watched some vids again - Akatieva and Vasilieva will be monster jumpers, those splits in the air are telling... 1 2 :drama:

Well, we have to remember Anna got hers pretty late. Gubanova for instance had hers far sooner. Still, I agree that both Akatieva as well as Berestovskaya are probably more advanced than any skater before them.


Out of these two though, I personally consider Berestovskaya to be significantly more talented and with greater potential. She's younger, has better skating skills, far better artistry, far better spins and her jump technique is much, much better. Right now, Akatieva has slightly faster jump rotation(Though Berestovskaya's peak rotation still is very good) and she's more consistent with her jumps but for future potential it's hard to think of very many strengths over Berestovskaya except she might be able to perform more / more difficult quads or 3A - But Berestovskaya should have the potential for them as well. If we think all the way past puberty and beyond as well, Berestovskaya having significantly better jump technique should probably allow her jumps to last better.

To be honest, Akatieva needs to improve a ton in the PCS categories and do something about her step sequences(She's been getting lvl 1s... ??). It's great that she can backload 7 triples but after she gets to a level where the others can do that as well, she's going to need a lot more or she'll be just another Panenkova.

Now, I fully expect her to have quad(s?) in the future but you have to wonder how these things will last and how consistent they can become. And whether having a quad will actually be enough to make up for other issues with PCS(Or whether she will somehow get amazing PCS anyway, I guess...)
