😵😵😵😵
Between this and ladies pcs debacle USA fed has ALOT of explaining to do

I can see why they chose Adam over Ross, based on Adam's other achievements this season. But did Vincent do anything of note, according to the published selection criteria?

Things like "who has best potential for future success" or "who might just jump up and land 5 quads at the Olympics, who knows?" -- those are not part of the rules that the selection committee is supposedly working from.

I hope those who watched Nats at the venue wonder "well, what was the competition for?"
Yes, one really has to wonder. Adam popped jump after jump in the 2nd half of his long program. Lucky he even finished 4th. But they bypass the Silver Medalist and put him on the team? Figure Skating is not very popular anymore and this is a sure way to lose more fans. There has always been a perception of favoritism in US Figure Skating and sadly the last two Olympics it has gotten even worse.

Karen was national champion last year and came in 4th at worlds, if it wasn't for her the US wouldn't even have a third spot for ladies. This season she has been underwhelming but she beat Ashley where it counted. Since their results this season were equally bad, that was the discriminating factor.

She didn't beat Ashley were it counted. The judges gave Karen the PCS bump that she just so happened to need. The judges hammered Ashley harder on her under rotations than they did Karen. Karen made more mistakes than Ashley but the judges had a favorite from the start. I'm not upset Ashley was left off because she got gifted a spot at the last Olympics. I think that the reason Karen is on the team was not based on how she skated at this event.

Wow. 87 really is a travesty, even for a national competition. What are they going to score Yuzuru or Javier, 130?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6COS4L3H4o min 11 of the press conference, they explain the criteria in detail to a question that was "what are nationals for"

His 2nd place at last year's Nationals and his junior world title are both counted in the criteria. Ross was 5th last year and not on any world team. Two advantages for Vincent over Ross right there. Ross's only advantage over him was last night.

Poor Ross :sad21: but I was prepared for this desicion but taking away even 1st alternative Oly option from him is just head scratching:mad:

Nothing against Adam tho & he indeed deserves based on the whole season
(Ugh yeah my thoughts about Sergei's successful season being irrelevant to the Fed can't leave my head:sad4: at least Ross has his Nats medal unlike Serezha who was robbed even of that)

Yeah? Didn't Medvedeva say she's gonna skate for as long as she can?

You seriously can't see the difference between "I'll skate for as long as I can.." and "Im gonna skate forever...."? One spoken by a World Champion and one by a National pewter medalist?

I'm gutted for Ross, but is it too much for someone to ask Adam to just not rub salt into Ross and his coaches' wounds for now?

I heard Mitchell is quitting figure skating. :sarcasm:

Nope...Nope...Nope. That's wrong on every account. For Sochi they kicked Mirai off because she wasn't super strong but at least she had experience (and I'm not saying Vincent has no experience...but seriously with his URs and his PCS is he really a good contender for the Olympics? No.) whereas Polina (who was 2nd...like Ross) made it through...a 2nd place performance should have guaranteed Ross a place on the Olympic team...it's the 3rd place position that's wrong. I would defiantly protest this. This isn't right or fair on any account...they couldn't even bother splitting Vincent and Ross into Worlds/Olympics? USFSA that is wrong on many accounts. Ross had the skate of his life and the fact that he couldn't make a Worlds or Olympics is upsetting on so many accounts. This is worse than Mirai I can't even right now.

EDIT: Okay I'm a little calmer now...it's just that watching Ross have the skate of his life and not even be selected as the 1st Alternate and not splitting the Worlds/Olympics between Adam or Vincent and him...THAT's what makes me angry. It's not exactly like Vincent will be a Medal contender at Worlds or Olympics this season so I just don't get it.

He did earn it. That we like it or not a 4-quad programs is big (5 if not for the last one). I'd argue that both Miner and Vincent were gifted in PCS, vincent lost 20 points on TES on Urs that Miner wasn't called for. But then 2nd vs 3rd place you have to still look at the rest of the criterias and frankly, Miner is out.

What I don't get are the alternates though, and it's where you make a point : Ross 2nd, Jason1st, and Max ?? Where is Grant in all of this ?

All you have to do is look at their body of work/international scores and placements this season. Grant has a SB of 217 and placed 9/11 at his two GPs. Ross has a SB of 233 and placed 6th at his only GP. Max and Jason both medaled on the GP and had SB scores of 261+. Jason also had GPF and Worlds.

No, I can't see the difference.

Let people pursue their passions lol.

Adam was saying that he thought he would be retired by the time Nathan made it to the senior level. What's catty?

I’m sorry, but you (and several) have missed some essentials in my post. It was a response to another poster, included a reply quote, relevant words highlighted by bolding, BBM to reflect that I did the bolding and not the original poster......There was no misreading on my part.

When one is already predisposed to seeing someone negatively, they'll see even their most innocuous comments in a bad light. That's just the way it is. I mean, how is saying he'd like to skate forever rubbing salt on Ross or his coaches wounds? If anything, it'll just rub salt on Adam's finances.

I think Ross can be angry about not making the team but it was also expected. He knew they were going to look at everything else- everything he didn't have too. I don't think he can be furious about that. Not even being first alternate though is a tough pill to swallow (I say this as someone who loves Jason).

He won't be furious bc he's a sweet guy:biggrin::coffee:
