Jason Brown

So a small piece of good news:

HeatherC, who attended the Friends of Figure skating Breakfast at Nationals, posted on FSU that Jason told her he’s going to continue next season and just keep working hard, and that his attitude was “awesome”!

The clip and photo posted above pretty much show his hard work and awesome attitude, but it was good to hear it straight from Jason. And especially good to hear he’s continuing.

Gosh, I can’t believe 4CCs is in 10 days. And Jason, Max, and Grant - our men’s team from Lombardia 2016 - will be there together.

I've been wondering what the problem might be, and I've been thinking about Liza (whom I'm also a fan of), and what she said in an interview awhile back about how she kept putting pressure on herself, and the more she did that, the worse things became:

"But I tried to enter this season calmly. All my problems are in my head. After a successful season in 2015 I was thinking that I need to keep the level, keep the bar, but I was doing only worse for myself. Now the main thing for me is to compete calmly, go my own way, not to look on others and do what I can do, to perform calmly. The more I start to think, and focus on my position, even on skating, the worse it turns out in the end."

And I couldn't help but wonder if something akin to that is what is happening to Jason? Because another thing that I feel about both of them, is that they COULD do it, if only... If the problem is not technique, or being out of shape, and I don't get that feeling, then it must be something else - and I wonder if it is that? Putting too much pressure on themselves - too many expectations; and then they freeze up.

I may be talking through my hat here, but just a thought that keeps coming at me...

I mean, if this was the maximum Jason were capable of, that would be fine - but I'm sure it's not. And I think that is what is... I don't know what word to use, "frustrating", isn't quite right... "saddening" might be more appropriate.

I don't know...

I think you’re right that Jason put a lot of pressure on himself this season, but I think a lot of it was tied up with wanting to go back to the Olympics. And in his mind that meant putting the quad out there, ready or not. Hopefully he’ll realize his mistakes and carry on from where he was at Worlds. Let’s see how he does at 4CC.

OK folks, I think Jason’s in Los Angeles, let the speculation begin!

I am away from home and can’t link on my iPad, but I saw this morning an IG user posted a selfie with “Surprise visitor to my rink”, dated one day ago. And one of the comments was so cute, it said “OMG Hamilton guy”. I guess Riverdance is passé:)

I feel funny posting the user’s IG name in the forum and as far as I can tell she didn’t tag Jason. I trust you all by the time I’m back online to let me know what’s up:laugh: or at least post the link....

Hmm. I’m not sure. Is it possible she posted it a few days after the fact? Like maybe before or after Nationals?

Because Jason just tweeted about his Ronald McDonald House visit from “Colorado.” Also, he was definitely in Monument on Saturday afternoon - according to the schedule, this session took place at 3:15 pm:

I suppose it’s possible he posted from the airport or it was it was a scheduled tweet.

They showed Jason's exhibition on NBC today. They also put it after Adam, Vincent and Ross, which I thought it was pretty interesting (considering that in the actual gala, Jason went before Adam and Vincent).

And it was super nice cause it was Scott Hamilton and Tanith White commentating; they were really kind and encouraging.

No one's put it up on YT yet, but we'll see if someone does.

Edited:
Super low-quality version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tTGfb-LHuU
Somebody taping the television. So 1990s.
The YouTube channel is facinating -- I'll watch some of the basketball highlights while I'm here.

No super high def, but I got a capture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ5ba-9u9n4

YouTube kept telling me to watch this vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ZElwQreYg

It's a reader's digest of the ladies' free skate, men's free skate and gala. And Jason has a nice cameo around the 10 minute mark (along with segments of his free skate and exhibition)

This poster (Eye Kate) is a figure skater who posts figure skating related videos-- she has 22k subscribers. Nice work YouTube algorithm.

Thanks for that. YouTube has told me to watch her stuff, too - she’s so mature for a 16 year old!

So Jason just posted this, from Merrifield, Virginia:

https://twitter.com/jasonbskates/status/953066206919000069

Since 4CCs is so soon, and since Fairfax County Va doesn’t really seem to be on the way to Taipei, I was curious!

Audrey Weisiger (Grassroots 2 Champions) and Nick Perna coach at the Fairfax Ice Arena. She did the Jeremy Bennett fundraiser in Fort Collins last summer, and Jason was in the Grassroots 2 Champions program years ago.

Maybe he’s doing a show? Or coaching?

:)

Edited to correct the stupid link! :drama:

Wow, if Jason is in NoVa, that really is taking the scenic route to Taipei.;)

More rampant speculation: Chris Conte, a harness coach (who put Jordan Moeller on the ice at the Liberty comp last summer) used to work with Audrey. He's now in Baltimore, but it's do-able (OK, in rush hour it's over an hour, but it's do-able....)

But that's a long way to go for a jump coach.

When I think of Nova, I think of Villanova. Go Wildcats! My fave Catholic school team!!

I was so confused about where you guys getting that info cause I usually see his Instagram not so much Twitter. I guess we may find out it due time. :)

LOL, during the NBC broadcast, I was on the verge of posting something nasty about the network not showing Ross' exhibition ... 'cause I did not anticipate that the broadcast would not be in the same order as the live gala.

Glad that NBC showed Ross (and Jason) after all.

I have my fingers crossed that maybe SOI will invite Ross to part or all of the 2018 tour. Mirai was on the full 2014 SOI tour.

Back to Jason. Not an answer to anything, but FWIW:

Jason (along with his mother) also is scheduled for a presentation in connection with Audrey's G2C Camp in Virginia in June.

Audrey mentioned it months ago on social media, and I think I did post about it (in this thread or the U.S. Men thread) at the time.

Only my speculation, but seems within the realm of possibility that Jason could be getting some temporary help from Audrey??
Would seem reasonable to me if Team Jason decided that a change of scenery and "fresh eyes" (such as Audrey's) might do some good before Four Continents?
Given the friendly ties btwn Jason/Kori and Audrey, I think it would have been relatively easy to quickly put such a decision into motion on the spur of the moment after Nats?

Hahaha, I never thought of Nova and NoVa, probably because I headed down to DC too much in my fed life and absorbed the nicknames. but yeah, Rollie Massimino.:agree:

I do think Jason is somewhere in the environs of our nation's capital, however, based on this cute IG post of Jason and some young skaters today. Some is in Russian, but some is in English:
"Recently I was thinking, how to motivate my child to work harder on the rink. Boom! Jason Brown today at our rink."

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bd_imhOjqp2/?taken-by=mom_of_skater

The English part of the post does not identify the location. But other posts of this young skater show Capitals' banner hanging in the background of her rink. Thus, D.C.!
(All this research; I will do anything to avoid writing out checks and folding laundry:laugh:)

Interesting discussion about Jason's whereabouts. :)

Ah, I'd forgotten about that. It stuck with me at the time because I grew up in that part of VA. From that link, Jason and mom are also appearing in St. Louis earlier in June.

Is Kori still coaching Laurine? If so, could she and Rohene be at Euros this week? If that's the case, I could see them asking Audrey to help out.

With all of these east-coast coaching mentions, it's making me a little excited to maybe move back next year. :)

So yoooonk retweeted that Jason does appear to be skating in Virginia. But now that i think about it... Kori is likely in Moscow with Laurine for Euros... so it does kinda make sense.

It's kinda random. But it does get him a little bit closer to the Taipei time zone.

I used to go to D.C. a lot as a kid cause it was close to the Philly suburbs -- so multiple school trips. It was fun to go there as a grown-up a few years back. :D

Just saw Ms. Yoooonk’s retweet, is there a young skater at Kettler Iceplex who *didnt* get a selfie with Jason.

But I’m still not getting the geography. Taipei has got to be closer to Colorado than D.C., like the Pacific Ocean and everything? But I’ve never been to Asia, so what do I know.....
