Formal congratulations to Prince Shoma for Silver in 4CC!!:yahoo: Despite the fall, this is the cleanest Turandot this season !!! This jump layout seems good so that is good sticking to it. He looks really happy in the competition, I am sure this will bring him good memory and a confidence push heading to the Olympic. Otsukare!!!

Not that I could tell. He stayed hidden

Possibly Mr. Hanes was there. Pretty sure there were quite a few dead banana club members there...OMG, his kakkoii smile is SO cute. Still shy, but he looks like he loves the attention. He deserves it. From kawaii to kakkoii.

I would like to immediately renew my dead banana club membership. :dbana: :dbana: :dbana:

It's safe to say that my membership has been changed to permanent :dbana:

the Chinese judge marks were disgusting. 20+ points difference with Boyang http://skatingscores.com/2018/fc/men/long/
Ooh, 93 PCS! Nice one!

Politics. What else is new? Looks like he's trying to make up for Boyang getting shot down in the US.

I'm happy that some of the highest pcs for Shoma came from non-Japanese judges. The Canadian judge was being a tad stingy too on the PCS, but it was for everyone (including the Canadian skaters) except Jason Brown, so oh well.

i don't know there is giving a bump to your own skater and every judge does that and then there is giving your skater a 25 point lead.

Blatant and I know it is crazy. That said Boyang did deliver and the placement ending up being correct because of Sho’s mistakes.

I agree with you. It's ridiculous. Probably not the first time it's happened, but that doesn't make it right. Hopefully this person is asked to explain their highly outlying scores.

Sorry, I'm still happy that Shoma skated so well after the fall. I'm not that troubled by it. Truth is, had a few judging things not happened, Shoma could still have won (more generous PCS, 4L called rotated, etc), but can you imagine the backlash if Shoma had won with an imperfect skate and Boyang with a clean one? During Boyang's performance, I was already thinking he was going to win because he looked confident and his jumps were amazingly good, and I didn't want Shoma winning if Boyang skated clean (even though he could still have), because there would be a great fuss among the skating fans (you know what I mean).

Hmm, they keep making Daisuke do the interviews with him, for which I'm glad. He seems more relaxed when Dai is interviewing him.

By the way, to Hronop - I have a greater appreciation of cantilevers now! They just look so much cooler in person (when done well)! Thrilling too. The crowd loved them (Shoma's of course, and Julian's too).

Well, one wants all to be functioning fair and just, that’s all. (And I suppose it’s that those who complain most about judges are now quite pleased in this case. Which. Feels biased to me.)

Wow he really went all in lol! He didn’t have to so obvious, like at least by out the other judges to do the job and stay humble with your scores! [emoji23]
Anyways Shoma’s skate was just so out of this corrupted world even with the fall! The landings were so on point and he performed like an artist as always.
Also, is it confirmed by him that he’ll go back to the blue costume for the Olympics? The yellow one shocked me at first but he really shined in that costume, it’s far from awful like many people are making it out to be..

Whenever I see your username pop up on GoldenSkate I get a little shock. *lol*

Yep, it is confirmed, he goes back to the blue one. I liked Gold as well, don't get why everyone is complaining. It still looked amazing and better than most other skaters costume put together with all these details. It also isn't 'yellow' for me, but gold. And I think it was much more comfortable than the blue one. It's a Satomi Ito costume after all, and amazing. But in fashion like in figure skating, opinions differ.

I liked the gold one too. After the initial shock that he changed the costume i enjoyed the gold a lot. I saw this poster explain the concept of the costume probably being a dragon robe https://www.instagram.com/p/BecAHobjhVp/?tagged=shomauno
I do prefer the blue though so i'm happy if he goes back to it for the olympics.
However Mihoko told him to do his hair slicked back and Shoma said he doesn't like it. I hope he listens to himself this time. The hair worked for loco very much but for Turandot he needs the fluffy prince hair with no wax!! It's so better suited to the theme.

^^^Gorgeous costume, but I didn't like it too much on Sho. He needs to assert himself (now that he's officially an adult! :o:) and say NO! to the tango hair. It was pretty long and noodley, but he has such a gorgeous head of hair and the slicked back look doesn't show it off! Besides, I want to see those reddish streaks that he has! :hap10:

I think Shoma was the only one in 4CC who was maybe slightly underscored on PCS. Except maybe in PE.

Also, about this discussion about judges, would it matter about what that one judge did? Aren't the highest and lowest GOEs and PCS scores tossed out?

yes they are thrown out but it mechanically lowers the mark anyways since the second worse mark is kept when it would have been thrown out if judged fairly. so saying i has no impact because it is thrown out is false, it does impact the overall score

OK, but in this case, all the other scores were clustered around the same from the other judges (except CA, who scored him very highly, still), so it's a very slight effect.

Not saying it's right, of course. I wish the judging were more transparent.
