That was the worst SP ever for US women (OG)

I'm kind of taking it as sign of how uninspired you guys are by US ladies skating that all you want to do is talk about Russian ladies skating.

Well.. so be it. They are pretty spectacular. But there is a thread about them already and the posters there are pretty great and well informed about all the Russian senior and junior ladies.

I find Karen Chen to be quite inspiring!

Good jumps, with choreography she did herself? That layback? Those spirals?

The judges should make it rain with the PCS and yet they don't.

We're the ones that matter.

It would quickly become very quiet around here if that was true.

On a board I used to be on (a small one of about 100 people) I once told them that I was going to put them all on ignore and just post to myself since I was the only interesting person there. :sarcasm: They all thought it was hilarious so sometimes I would pretend to not be able to see any of them. Good times, good times. :dance3:

I agree that she is interesting but we might be in the minority it would seem.

I love Karen and think she has some of the best programs. On Golden Pond is a masterpiece and one of my all time favorite programs. I like pretty much all of the skaters though because I’m easy to please

She had the best programs at US Nationals this season IMO so make of that what you will ;)

Since this thread is going that way again, how does one achieve huge height on jumps? Minimal pre-rotation? Great speed? Muscle strength? Something else?

Muscle strength, speed, and vault on the takeoff all play into it. Medvedeva/Zagitova/Miyahara don't have the strongest legs, don't enter into their jumps with the most speed, and turn into the jumps on the toepick instead of jumping up as much from the toepick. Miyahara has tried to do more speed into the jumps at times, but then she also turns so much on the takeoffs instead of taking the jumps up.

Karen might be the only one who can retire right away and find work as a choreographer. IMO what she has given herself is right up there with the best of the lot, and a lot better than programs that "top experts" gave to some.

I've noticed that! Medvedeva especially just looks like she's trying to fling herself off the ice instead of jumping up.

Med's legs also just look stiff, is this correct?

My goodness people. The men have 3 in the top 10 and we want to have a party. The women (potentially, we are close) land 3 in the top ten and everyone freaks out.

After the short program the men were 7, 12 and 17. After the short program the women were 9, 10, and 11. Was there the same hand-wringing over the men? True, the highest man was better than the highest woman, but he (Rippon) had no realistic hopes of winning a medal.

Sorry, I was thinking of the final result. I am hopeful all 3 women will be in the top 10. We will see.

The men didn't have an article by Christine Brennen about it, that's why. ;)

It's difficult without knowing when she started skating. When I watch Plushy's Academy.....He trains his skaters to jump. They jump up onto a platform. They do jumping squats, and the boys do deadlifts with weights. The also do ballet at a high level. I learned to jump high by doing Plie's in dance class...I know that Plushy has his students do ballet as part of their training and he was always a very high jumper himself. I have never seen Eteri's off ice training so I'm not sure about Med.

Bradie got about 137 in the FS at SA, so if she goes clean, she'll definitely be in the top 10.
Mirai, if she lands the 3A for sure.
Karen, it all depends on which one shows up, the one from Worlds or the one from 4CC

Hopefully after that she will get a better skate order at Worlds. Does Worlds seeding include Olympic results? Tough to go in with only one bronze at Skate America, even as the US champion.

I do hope that the girls can all move up to the top ten and pull it together at worlds to secure three spots next year...

I don't see any of the girls having a comeback like Nathan did.

I'm really not a fan of Christine's columns. The US ladies weren't expected to do well in this event or in any of the previous events because they've lagged behind the Russian and Japanese skaters for some time now. I don't understand why she felt the need to sensationalize results that weren't entirely unexpected:confused:.
