I thought it would have to be a certified buyer no? Or anyone can bid? Yeah, I don´t think that´s price will hold. I mean a tshirt that Baby Ruth wear sold by $4millions, and those skates look new I don´t think they will go for Millions dollars as colection item...

31 million yen is less than 300,000 dollars, though. Still a crazy high amount of money for some used boots that don't even look that used (thank the heavens for Yuzu's tendency to always use bootcovers).

Actually, they might. You’d make money by “loaning” them to a museum or having a sporting/Olympic/skating institution buy them from you as a private collector. It’s the first time in the modern era the OGM was won twice in a row, very rare item, etc. Licensing them as part of museum exhibits would be one way to recoup costs, then eventually sell.

Edit: I’m not an expert in this area, but I’d also imagine the value goes up over time due to historical importance, limited nature, etc.

I don’t see a fan buying them, maybe an action house or someone who works for one.

It could be a private collector of unique items who of course has $300k+ to drop on a pair of skates. If an individual is willing to spend that type of money for skates it’s likely just chump change to them.

It’s pretty awesome that people are willing to pay this kind of money. Glad it’s going to a good cause.
