2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

okay I don't know what they used to say, but I went and rewatched the olympic programs and they do compliment her skating (some examples below)

SP:
"to say she had a breakthrough season would be an understatement" and goes on to list her wins
"she's strong in every element"
"incredible skate"
"very fast free leg into extension after her jump"

FS:
"we will see some beautiful skating in the first half"
"impresses you with her skating"
"if they opened up the rules, she would kill" (in a good way, as in her technical abilities are so good that she can't use them all in her program)
gushes about her technical abilities
"it was an honour to be here and see what she can do"

They did say some compliments to soon-to-be-the olympic champion, how nice of them, but probably it was Ashley's turn to say something unnecessary and unplesant ("not a program"). TSL also helped to create negative background. "She has no artistry" comments are all over the place on this very forum. Looks like a hatefest for me.

well, maybe you look for different things in junior and senior skating.

Alina's program fit the childish juniorish theme... "wow, that child is so good". But if she is doing it among women... it looks bit... immature.

You need to watch CoC CBC. They were only more professional later after they got a ton of backlash.

I really hope that Panenkova can go senior next year, considering that she didn't qualify to elder age nationals (which is the fault of the qualification system...)

oh Dasha
I think she can if she's in the top 24 in season's best by the end of the season. She's currently #22 with 196.55 points so only 2 skaters would be allowed to pass her in the upcoming competitions.

There's Rika Kihira, Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen who have the potential to. And maybe someone like Eunsoo Lim.

It would be quite poetic if she managed to jump a clean one here at the world championships. She's been rotating it so often, it really shouldn't be UR anymore, I'd imagine... And if she rotates it, I don't think she would fall.

Mirai's SB is close, but she was well back at the Olympics. I'm not expecting a ton, since she seemed super tired after the Olympics, but I guess she could get there if she skates like at NHK. Later season might be enough of a bump since she'd need about a 2 point increase. For Karen she'd have to be pretty clean. She was ~199 at Worlds last year with just one ur fall in the FS. That's a lot cleaner than she's been all year. Rika definitely could if she's cleaner than JGPF. Eunsoo's PB is 186.34, so it would take a really great skate for her to do it.

I think Daria will be okay to stay top 24 and be guaranteed at least one GP.

when i stopped at 1:11 that's what caught my attention :) there's an Olympic champion and JGPF champion but she's looking not on them :)
Remember that big Eteri's interview from last year?
She mentioned two girl by diminutive names only: Zhenya and Anya. :)

"We released Anya Shcherbakova for five days on the New Year holidays and she came back with a broken arm."
- I sense some deeper regret and affection... ;)

on a shallow note: Medvedeva has star like quality, a minor reason that is why she is still popular in Russia and abroad

she looks like a morphed Rachael Weisz and Kendall Jenner

One of my friends has Korean and Chinese heritage and she knew who Zhenya was even before the Olympics just because she follows stuff like k-pop and anime and stuff.

Of course (Zhenya is) like a daughter. She spend with me so many hours, time, years. Perhaps I raised/brought her up more (than others pupils or than her mom - it's not clear there).
Oops, sorry - I meant what ZHENYA said at 3:52?
