2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

When you don't have these difficult jumps, you can focus on everything else like the 7 triples, spins, steps sequence. But with a quad or a 3a, the first 5-10 seconds are just a preparation for that jump with no choreography in between, and also due to difficulty of that element she may not have the stamina to skate the rest of the program with the same quality she'd do normally.

I mean look at Trusova's FS after those 2 quads. She totally rushed that steps sequence, and she was skating behind the music.
That's because that step sequence as well as the rest of the program is composed and choreographed for a 1 quad layout, not a 2 quad layout. She was always going to be behind the music. That's a different topic altogether.

Kostornaia has plenty of empty space at the start of her FS, she backloads every jump after all. It's not exactly a choreographical masterpiece, her first 10-15 seconds. It might actually improve the program. For example, in Trusova's FS(original layout), to me the best part by far when it comes to things other than the technical elements is the very beginning, right before the quad.

Alexandra Trusova won Junior Worlds figure skating title with many records. Her teammate Alena Kostornaia is second with good performance. The two girls look friendly and shared some interesting facts.
“I have never cut my hair, since I was born. We only trim it. When I was younger I watched the movie Rapunzel, loved her hair and wanted to be like her”, Trusova said. She went to the award ceremony with her hair down, floating around. Sasha is in Sofia without her fave dog. “My dog has chip and passport but no visa, so we decided to leave it at home”, she skater explained.

We asked Alena if she has any pets and the answer surprised us: “Yes, three chihuahua dog and a cat”. “She has a zoo”, Sasha laughed and hugged her.

At this point Rika seems to be the only more or less real threat to top Russian ladies in the coming years. Why would Eteri take her?

Oh im not speaking of Eteri taking her, but of how a skater would benefit from it.
As for Russians /Eteri - imho it is useful to have strong competition, even if its just to keep isu from changing the rules to give everybody else advantage. At least the latest set kinda looked like it was created to basically reduce the gap between Medvedeva, Zagitova and everybody else.

It's probably better to be ready to any thinkable changes in rules )

Afaik, Eteri doesn't want them. She said once in interview, Chinese feds had proposed her big amount of money for training some promising girl, but she refused, because of her patriotic standpoint.
She probably felt, being a professional, that having given her best to the girl, she might have raised a champion depriving Russia of some future medals. :)

PS. Have you guys read this article from Phil Hersh?
Russian ladies playing game of 'catch us if you can'

I agree with you a Eteri would not want to coach a skater outside of Russia and have that skater beat one of her skaters for an Olympic or world's gold medal. Eteri had a hard enough time when one of her own students Alina zagitova edged her all-time favorite student Evgenia Medvedeva for the Olympic gold medal a couple of weeks ago. The only saving grace for Eteri is that one of her students and compatriots won the gold ahead of Medvedeva. If it was someone from China or Japan Eteri would never forgive herself.

It's been a long time since I read such a nonsense. Don't you feel bad ... making up such stories? :scratch2:

I noticed Sofia's likes on Daniil's photos. I'm sure now she feels even more confident with her future - besides Alina Zagtiova (Olympic Champion, World Junior Champion 2017) and Evgenia Medvedeva (Silver Olympics medalist, Two-time World and European champion, World Junior Champion 2015), now she has an example right in front of her eyes every day on the trainings - Sasha Trusova, who made history and won JW, landing two quads. In such company she just has no choice to not become a super-quad monster!

If by any reason Medvedeva pulls out of worlds (and I’m not saying she will, but anything could happen) who is first on the alternate list? Did Russia ever release a list of the three girls on the alternate list?

Stanislava "58 PCS" Konstantinova.

Really would prefer seeing Tsurskaya but it is what it is.

Relax relax. All I'm saying is that Eteri was sad for Evegenia whom she has coached for 11 years winning the silver instead of gold. But Alina edging Zhenya for gold is quite acceptable for Eteri whereas Osmond edging Zhenya for gold would have made Eteri feel awful. I hope this clears it up. I sometimes don't like how Eteri treats Alina but I also have great things to say about Eteri. She is the top figure skating coach in the world right now and she's the most beautiful figure skating coach in the world too. :) That is undeniable.

Actually, Stanislava did very well in Junior Worlds with 4th place, two clean skates, no falls and good PCS scoring.
Most of the critiques appeared unjustified and unfair. Good job, Stasya! :gclap:
