2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Shayuki, the other poster was talking about the Moscow qualifiers to Elder Age (too hard to think about for my girl Dasha )

I see... I guess I was fooled by this quote:
I'm thinking in particular of Svetlana Panova who's girl won the top 3 places in the 11-12 year category of Russian National Championship for Younger Age that just took place last week.
But anyway... Panova's girls get overscored through the roof in Moscow locals, I don't think they're very useful data. I'd rather just look at the results in national competitions.

I still kinda surprised with 75 PB for Sinitsina SP

But actually, weren't the top 3 here Kanysheva, Moroz and Frolova? How's that a hat trick? I missed some news?

You are right, The hat trick was at Moscow qualifiers (5-8 Mar) not the Nationals (13-17 Mar)
I got confused because both were won by Kanysheva

2005-06 is a bit of a hole and to be honest, apart from Akatieva I'm getting less and less impressed by 2007 as well (although Maria Dmitrieva was a nice surprise).

By the time those kids are junior eligible, things are going to change. I remember a few years ago Gubanova being the only strong skater from her age group, and by the time she was junior eligible, suddenly there were a number of other skaters from her age group who were comparable to her.

I certainly hope the newcomers will live up to 2002s, who are the best age group of Russian fs ladies EVER. :agree:

Hmm... Even though 4 of them broke Tarakanova's all-time record for the younger novice category?

late 2004-early 2005 is probably the emptiest age group. late 2005-early 2006 depending on Valieva could be slightly better. Late 2006-early 2007 I'm rather confident in. And I think late 2007-early 2008 is amazing.

I wouldn’t say that 2004-05 year is weak. There is nothing wrong with Kanysheva, Sinitsina, Moroz and Frolova. Obviously if we compare them with the season 2003-04 then the season 04-05 does look weaker, but considering that the skaters born 03-04 have to do another year at junior level, it is a good thing that the year after them is not as packed. At least the year 04-05 has more time to mature and they can get events when the group 03-04 moves to seniors.

There's quite a bit wrong with Moroz ... Otherwise yeah, the three are fine skaters but at this point they all would be closer to a Samodurova than a Kostornaia. None I particularly enjoy watching, none I would specifically wake up to watch. None whose programs I would re-watch.

Nothing wrong with Samodurova either. Unlike Gubanova, Samodurova got into JGPF...

Speaking of Tarakanova, i'm worried that we don't hear anything about her... This season was quite successful for her and i hope we will see her in more competitions in the next one. I really missed her at JWC, she was a perfect addition to our powerful duo at JGPF :agree:

Don't worry, she'll be back I think :) JGPF bronze medalist + 7th at junior nationals (more like 6th because Konstantinova) --> given an initial JGP spot. It's just up to her to not blow it and get another one...

I think she's experiencing a growth spurt that her landings at Jr Nationals and Jr Russian Cup Final were not as smooth as JGPF. I'm sure she's going to work on that this summer and have a strong comeback (and hopefully surprise us all with a 4Lz )
