2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I think she's experiencing a growth spurt that her landings at Jr Nationals and Jr Russian Cup Final were not as smooth as JGPF. I'm sure she's going to work on that this summer and have a strong comeback (and hopefully surprise us all with a 4Lz )

i would be ok even with 3Lz :) just be consistent, Nastya! don't let someone steal your deserved spot

What?? why? Turenko has no influence at all and Gubanova's jumps from her are so ugly.... Sima doesn't need that

Huh, I would've thought Mishin would've wanted her... maybe she didn't want him?
But are those really the only coaches in St. Petersburg? Mishin, Turenko, and Chebotareva?

Of course not...there's Rukavicin, but she already left his team. I like Sima a lot but she's been through more coaches in less time than just about anyone (maybe tied with Nam Nguyen, lol). Mishin is very particular about who he takes, maybe too particular, considering how little success his skaters have had recently. She just left his disciple Plushy after a matter of months so I don't think he would take her on principle.

I don't see a way forward for her, unfortunately, unless she switches countries. As for Plushenko, he is still totally unproven as a coach so I don't think this will help build his reputation up either.

If Sima wants to live in St. PB, I guess it makes sense... But I think that with Plushenko she looked better than she has in years.

As for Gubanova, I doubt Buyanova is the person to save her jumps. But perhaps a PCS boost is enough to push her above someone like Sotskova as a skater, especially if she continues skating somewhat clean. Still, with such weak landings and ugly jump technique you're just not going to get enough GOE to be able to seriously compete for the medals.

But what I still don't know is why exactly she withdrew from the Moscow Elder Age(junior) qualifiers. Is it confirmed that she has in fact not suffered an injury of some kind?

Tell me did all the famous coaches proved themselves in a year? Just curious why over and over here on forum one get on how unproven Plushenko is. Like what do people expect in a year? :laugh2:

With Radionova, Sotskova, Gubanova and two full-time figure skating ice rinks, Buyanova is throwing down the gauntlet to Eteri.

I'm expect that coach should be spending his time on his skaters. Not on the ice shows, CM, mass-media and so on.

ah yes, because three decently-high level skaters is a threat to Eteri... who has Medvedeva, Zagitova, Tsurskaya, Panenkova, Trusova, Kostornaya, Tarakanova, Shcherbakova, and Akatieva...I'm sure she's quaking in fear right now...

But Buyanova is not a very good coach. Her skaters don't have consistency and usually get kind of boring programs.
If I were Russian Fed, after Eteri, I'd support Panova. I think she looks promising.

Plushenko is a big name, there was a lot of hype around his academy when it opened. It's not unreasonable to expect results.
But now Sima left him after showing a lot of improvement and promise at her GP. Her departure will have hurt his chances to start building up a reputation as a coach.
