I would almost rather have him withdraw from competition. Who cares about Japan's 3 men's spots. I want Shoma to be healthy and not feel like he has to compete to ensure 3 spots for next years worlds that's in Saitama, Japan. So extra pressure for that. I don't want a Nathan Chen Olympic SP level disaster for Shoma. It'll be harder for him now if he's changed the SP layout. The BV is lowered and I feel the most he can get is around the high 80's maybe low 90's, and he'll possibly be out of the final group for the Free. I believe in Shoma, and I want him to win so bad, but I'm also being realistic in terms of his medal potential. I hope I'm wrong and he pulls a Yuzuru Hanyu from 2017 Worlds. That would be an amazing way to win. But if his injury gets worse then I want him to withdraw. It wouldn't be the end of the world if Japan only had 2 men's spots.

Since changing his boots he's been having pain in his right foot instep. Last night after training he went to the hospital for an x-ray, and it was determined that there was no fracture. He was examined just to be safe. Shoma wants to compete, so they will see how it goes.

Actually with 4T 3S3Tx and 3Ax Shoma could still get high 90's if everything is very clean and he gets his normal PCS... It seems the extend of his injury is not enough for him to renounce and he wants to fight with the conditions he has now. Title will be difficult but he could still medal and if he doesn't he could still save the 3 spots or at least 2. I think the main problem is that if he withdraws even 2 spots are in jeopardy.
Somehow I feel Shoma has to compete...to secure at least 2 spots for Japan.
True Shoma is a fighter who won't give up easily but I always doubt there is "hidden" pressure from JSU.
Well, hope the change of components (no 4F) will bring less damage to his right leg.

Yeah I think he'll grit through the pain and just do a watered down layout. I imagine everything else will still be very strong. Even if Keiji got 22nd here like the Olys Shoma could get as worse at 6th and Japan will still keep 2 spots. And then there are a few competitors not here so he could keep it within 20. Though I know he wants to secure his chance for next year so he'll need to do better.

Thank you for all the updates. Whatever his layout is, I trust it's for the best, and will cheer loudly for him during his performance. "My courage rises up with every attempt to intimidate me" per Elizabeth Bennet, and I hope Shoma is the same. Gambatte, Shoma!!!!
I'm still worry even after the program change, or maybe I'm more worry because that change means he is not completely fine. He doesn't have a fracture but if he though about the chance means he really have a lot of pain and that is not good. I don't care about the spots for Japan, his health is more important. I hope the decision they took ensure his safe recover and don't put him in risk. He has a lot of pressure, I don't like that, even when I know is part of the game
