2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Was shin amano the tech caller at this season’s Skate Canada??? Is that why the scores there were so strange?

I have a feeling that sotskova isn’t completely safe if this is true. She got a lot of calls at Skate Canada.

To be honest, Sotskova is never safe, because there's no need in Amano to notice falls

Sotskova needs to skate like it's the GPF. Maybe she will now that she's not Russia's #3 where it doesn't matter where she places -- she was #2 at the GPF and look how it helped her

Let's hope that the absence of Medvedeva somehow helps take off the burden on the shoulder of Sostkova (like at the GPF) and Konstantinova.

Ok aside from the jumps and all, can someone tell me how Eteri's girls manage the massive pressure on them to skate clean everytime? I don't recall many pops or falls from them except for Evgenia earlier this season and Trusova on her quads, but they always deliver when it counts. Do they do some kind of psychological training or do they drill the programs to perfection?

Eteri is good psychologist

I think Eteri trains the women to handle all kinds of situations. They can throw in successful combos when missing them earlier in a program with no problem. They can skate great in any pressure situation, whether they follow a great performance or a total bomb. They can even pull off a jump with not perfect air position, as Alina sometimes looks off in the air but always seems to land with confidence. It remains to be seen whether they can maintain their longevity; Evgenia has been strong for 3 years, but so far Alina has just had one great season. I hope Alina stays happy and healthy, because she is really incredible.

I was worried about Alina's SP, but she did it. In her interview she said she understands Zhenya better now. It is hard to be leader.

I've noticed earlier that Alina skates better if Zhenya is nearby. Zhenya is a role model for her.
I think that Alina experienced new kind of pressure today and she dealt with it pretty well. Kudos for our little ice ballerina!

Alina needs a 160.47 to break Zhenya’s FS WR, a 161.8 to break TS WR.

A lot of things have to go right for her to pull those scores, including having an optimal start order. If she performs before Kaetlyn and/or Caro in the LP, I don't think she'll be able to get high enough PCS to do it.

Stasya ...... why am i not surprised.... :(

Yeah. Stupid RusFed. She’s had several chances—blew all of them. Understandably so—her jumps are labored and heavily prerotated, posture is dreadful, stroking forced, basic footwork, glide effortful, etc. Worse, she is inconsistent. So why she got out of russia? Ur guess is as good as mine. She was favored at the expense of other skaters. Sorry, not sorry. It is what it is. I thought in russia, one blown chance and ure in the dog house. Not for Konstantiova, apparently. One thing going for her though is she’s such a beautiful lady—but last i checked that is not a judging criterion. 😅😅😅 neither are powerful forces backing u up. Lolz.

People really hate that Konstantinova girl. Poor thing.☹️ Even though I admit she’s not as great as other Russian skaters, maybe there’s a simple reason she’s held up in her country. Maybe she performs well in “summer competitions” and gets the nod to go to International competitions? Maybe she has a high profile coach to push for her? Maybe her monitored practice sessions are good?

Well, there are some simple reasons. Tarasova loves her, Lakernik is a pretty big shot, Chebotareva has pretty solid influence.

Some of us would like it to be about the skating, however.

We dont hate her.
She does not perform well, never ever. She is only here because she got overscored at russian nationals (both) - if you look at the PCs she gets there, she never ever gets anywhere near those scores internationally.

It is ridiculous - i personally have 2 guesses here. 1. she is a secret granddaughter of TAT. 2. Her parents are really rich and influential and just pay rusfed and russian commentators (because you got to listen how they praise Konstantinova - today they said like 2-3 sentences about Zagitova and Sotskova, and then just Konstantinova, mentioned non stop and at random.

it's just seems to me, or somebody is getting overscored domestically? 🤔

Russian Junior Nationals:
SP: 33.08 PCS
FS: 69.10 PCS

Junior Worlds:
SP: 28.64 PCS (-4.44)
FS: 58.69 PCS (-10.41!!!)

Russian Nationals:
SP: 33.78 PCS
FS: 70.47 PCS

Worlds:
SP: 31.00 PCS (-2.78)
FS: your guesses?? i predict 65-67

🤔🤔🤔

I absolutely believe this. It was not her best performance, and I could tell she was nervous/tight, but she still managed to land everything and put in a decent performance, so major respect there. I hope going into the FS in second place, that will take some of the pressure off, and she can skate her best FS of the season :)

She skated better than I expected, given the circumstances: she was ill after she got back in Russia, then she was speaking about jet lag and the events and ceremonies she had to go... i imagine it was really difficult to be really motivated and focused on training.
