2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

it's completely clean fully rotated 3A

Thank you, that helped! You're right, this does look rotated enough! I can't believe she can do that out of so little running edge :eeking:

Kostornaya 3A
Well, after rewatching it - it seems clean but borderline UR
Still I've no doubt about better execution in future considering how much progressed Trusova's 4S during the season

makes me wonder how scherbakova is doing =S
I really hope she's going to be able to regain it. But her season is not over yet. She has the secondary Russian Junior Championships in a bit less than 2 weeks.

Kostornaia certainly doesn't get amazing rotation speed for this, it's mostly the height. Well, I guess that can be seen as room to improve... I wonder if she could copy Shcherbakova's or Akatieva's rotation position. Or if that'd require more thin legs or flexibility in some random place...

Where did THIS come from??? :eeking:

I've never considered Kostornaya a jumping phenom or even heard of her training 3A...

She said right away at JWC she want to train 3A when they get back home. I don't know how long excatly she's been training it though.

looking at Eteri's girls it feels like one needs just a few days to learn a new ultra-c jump :scard7:

Her axel was always very good, and there was a video of her landing 3A on the floor a while ago.

She posted a video of a floor 3A in May 2017 - it was fully rotated despite deviated axis. In her interview after Nationals she mentioned that she had a few successful 3A attempts in summer 2017, but stopped training 3A during the 17/18 season to avoid injury.

I'm stunned. I knew she could do 3A, but never had I visualised that it would be done so elegantly with a creative difficult entry, speed, height, distance, delayed rotation, extension on landing and brilliant flow throughout. Worth GOE+3 by hitting all these bullet points.

1) unexpected / creative / difficult entry
2) clear recognizable steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element
3) varied position in the air / delay in rotation
4) good height and distance
5) good extension on landing / creative exit
6) good flow from entry to exit including jump combinations / sequences
7) effortless throughout

Alena came to our group at the end of last season. And in general, by her jumps, we realized that there was a potential for a quad. Alena has a very good jump. On the floor, she jumps higher than all the girls. Maybe even boys. But we did not have enough time during the offseason to choreograph interesting programs, polish them, gain stability, which she lacked before, and confidence. It is impossible to instill self-confidence when the athlete goes for super-difficult jumps at the competitions. This season, we achieved the maximum with Alena. She showed everything that we wanted. After the World championships, barely off the ice, she said: "Once we get back home, we are starting to learn the quad." She wants to try triple Axel as well. So we are going to work on the technical side of her skating.

her transitions into 3A
Backward inside rocker, Forward inside counter, change of edge - triple axel
