Ice Dance Annual Meeting

This 'entertainment' bonus is so ambiguous. A balanced, well-choreographed and well-executed program is always entertaining and a pleasure to watch. This component is already reflected in PCS marks.

Actually, that is one of wrong believes people have about what rules says of PCS categories. Well - choreographed, balanced program in PCS categories was meant to refflect more overal pattern of skating (with coherence and variations in skating and elements), not overal quality of program itself in terms of coherent storytelling behind the program and 'meaningful' overal performance. PCS are not awarding exactly that. Only this bonus suppose to.

I understand what you mean and I agree. But a poorly performed program with no coherence in elements will hardly be 'colorful and engaging'. Maybe next time the ISU should introduce televoting to engage the public, people's choice awards, Oscar-like awards for the best male and female dancer, best coach, best choreogpaher, etc. This is ridiculous. A program can be entertaining for the entire season and then stop being so at a major competition. Very convenient for manipulation, right? A point or two in ice dance can make a difference sometimes. But what I am saying now will only be my thinking until we have clear-cut criteria and an approved version of these new rules.

Well i agree that criterias behind it should be clearer and better defined. But i think, ISU officials also agree on that saying that they will work to better define it. They also said it is experimental for now, if its not work and if its prone to easy manipulation, they will erase it. So, we could only wait and see how it works and how will end.

So in essence, they're actually abolishing the free dance.

God. Entertainment. I can just see the dumpster fire this will cause. Candyman galore.

Utter Idiocy. I remember that years ago there was a guideline of ''upbeat & uplifting'' for one season, do I remember correctly? Dumb too. Those proposals are nonsensical.

I find it so strange that they've decided to do a full pattern for Tango Romantica next season and then just no compulsory pattern the next season. But I guess some people will be happy that they don't have to do the compulsories anymore.

I think they are just fishing, and try to find out what works. Ice dance is a mess right now, and they know it

Truth be told, like I said, I think that they formulated their idea really badly, hence the confused faces among those present in the conference and a myriad of questions during the Q&A (poor Fabian just trying to figure out what they actually want  ). The key word here is ENGAGING. As they explained, the program doesn't need to be super peppy, all sunshine and rainbows, it can be sad, it can be dark, it can be whatever, as long as it keeps the judges from looking at the clock and wondering "When is this gonna ennnnnnd  ". Obviously, the ISU needs to word what they want better, the criterion of "boredom" does seem quite ridiculous and biased, but that's why the majority vote is necessary to give or take a point. Hopefully they will clarify things as time goes on (or get rid of this rule), but the idea itself is quite nice and would indeed be helpful to lower-level teams with interesting dances.

I'm with you. Tango Romantica is almost 1 minute of the whole SD which means one minute of Skating Skills test between teams, the comparaison doesn't get much better than this.
And then, let's scratch it for the next season. Why...? That might be an advantage for younger teams or new senior teams but what is there to compare now ? This is a Short program and a Long program. The Juniors at least have a Pattern Dance. :scratch2:

I don't think it's about it being poorly performed or not coherent in elements, but moreso for skaters that may not have good enough skating skills etc. and therefore cannot get the high PCS points, but still perform their program engagingly/not boringly

Free Dance Entertainment bonus - program meets the guidelines of the FD for the season.
for next season its colorful/enjoyable. majority + ref required - goes between +1,0,-1;

Judges are also tired of slow DOOM MUZAK ;D

Yeah, like sarama said earlier, I think they are just trying to find out what works best but for me the compulsories are really the best way to compare the teams because they all have to do the same thing and to just get rid of it completely is so strange to me. It probably would have been better if they kept the one section of the compulsory and the partial step sequence for one more season and then go with no pattern the next instead of doing both sections one season and then no pattern the next.

I know the first two from 2015-16, but does anybody know what is Rhumba D'Amor? I presume it's one of the pattern dance style steps we've seen this season but which team's?

Does anyone have a link for the maple leaf march?

One new pattern dance is based on Gilles/Poirier pattern of their Beatles short program. The second one on Kaliszek/Spodiriev last years short. The third like someone already said on Torvill/Dean Rumba.
