Ice Dance Annual Meeting

Oh, I didn't know that. I only follow ice dance and pairs and was not aware that music from those musicals was used in the men category. Tomorrow I will surely try to find Jason's programs. Thanks for the info.

ISU have released a new document to revise the language and some technical information for the 2018-19 season pending congress.

NOTE:
The tricky Rocker turn that very few teams can do properly is now required to achieve the third (Lady) and fourth (Man) key point of section one of Tango Romantica

Is it possible to point out this rocker on a video please ? on this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6uDrkm-D1g
Thank you !
(Actually if you can point out all the KP on this video I'll be very grateful :hap10:)

Is the "entertainment bonus" gone? I think it first appeared in the original version of this document but I may misremember.
I can't find it in the new version.

I just wonder what judge of their own teams is going to have the nerve to give them the "I was not entertained" deduction? Could be worthy of a laugh or two to see which judges are entertained by what.

"Judge 5 seems to love POTO. They have given it the "I am entertained" bonus every single time, to every single team who used it."

We will be watching you judges. :hopelessness:

I'm looking at the revised document but like Andrea82, I can't find the entertainment bonus/deduction in this version. Are you saying it's still there somewhere? Where did you see it? (i.e. which page?)

Have they changed the name from Short Dance to Rhythm Dance? The word Short is crossed out in the third bullet on page 1 and followed by the word Rhythm. Or is it a type of technical requirement within the short dance? I know nothing about the technical aspects of ice dancing, so forgive if my question sounds silly.

I don't see it. I was just thinking about it and chimed in on the relative uselessness of it.

So looks like they took seriously the criticism they got in the meeting and scrapped the entertainment bonus. At least for the time being.

Yes it's officially named the Rhythm Dance now. We should say RD and not SD anymore. :)

Is it really? The full circle turn where she changes feet? Ice dance was not my discipline, but I was taught rocker is something completely different.

No, it's a turn on one foot. She's on the left forward outer edge heading toward the camera, then turns to backward on the left back outer edge heading back toward the boards (and swings her free leg forward while on that back edge). I'd say they start at 1:13 and 2:05 on that video.

She is doing a rocket first while their hands are going on her hip and then turns a three with an arm over her head. Thats the whole key point. It was a debate in ISU if correct edges/turn on rocket will be a part of the key point this year.

Yep, those are the correct times. LFO to LBO rocker. Thanks for the clarification

Well, at that conference Sylvia Nowak said on the entertainment bonus topic that she feels ISU don't appreciate enough how much work coaches are doing in creating a program. I guess one of her point is that every coach is already making a program to be 'entertaining'. What ISU wanted with it is to program as a whole be rewarded more, and judges may lose the picture of that while judging the components when they are starting with SS (which are the base for other components too). Maybe if components start to be judged with PErformance, that could be the right move.

She has a point, but then I can argue that I'd rather give credit to the better skaters. I wouldn't see the point of working hours and hours on details, steps, correct edges if it weren't what was judged before anything else.

However, I'm starting to feel sympathy towards judges for the upcoming season. It was hard enough to distinct the 5 components, let's do that with an 11-scale GOE. At some point to make the judging more and more fair, they'll need 2 brains, no less.
