Ice Dance Annual Meeting

Ice dance is the discipline where a program weighs A LOT more than other things. Everyone knows it. Everyone say it " that team won't win with that program". The other disciplines are the problem, Alina will win over Satoko even with that forgettable FS. I dont understand why it was a suggestion for ice dance and no singles.

She has a point, but then I can argue that I'd rather give credit to the better skaters. I wouldn't see the point of working hours and hours on details, steps, correct edges if it weren't what was judged before anything else.

However, I'm starting to feel sympathy towards judges for the upcoming season. It was hard enough to distinct the 5 components, let's do that with an 11-scale GOE. At some point to make the judging more and more fair, they'll need 2 brains, no less.

Well, im the first who never complained on judges decisions, cause i really think that most of their 'individual mistakes' are more of a product of processing too many informations while judging than their bad subjectivism or choosing the side thing. We will probably have strange distribution of GOE points across the board in the future, but again, i think its not fair to expect from every judge to give perfectly right scores for every element and every PCS category for every performance. But its ISU job to educate coaches and judges at what aspects of skating performance they should look for at competitions. And ISU want more entertainment and more public as a product of it

Is the "entertainment bonus" gone? I think it first appeared in the original version of this document but I may misremember.
I can't find it in the new version.

I dont think its in the new edition. I dont think its fully gone, but i think they are going to try and revise it and clarify it before releasing a communication about it.

I finally managed to watch the entire ISU Ice Dance meeting from Milano (figure skating geek) and I don't know if everything was discussed but a few points that were very interesting :

All the added elements, the choreographic ones, are something that top teams, or teams with good coaches or choreographers already did for years, but it might force lower-ranked teams to add more substance I think. But there is barely any time for transition with all the added features.

You can have +3 GOEs with a single stumble or very minor mistake. +4 and +5 are allowed only if this is foot perfect AND meeting a certain number of criteria. I compared to some of the FDs from Milano, and if I understood correctly, top 3 or 4 would be showered with +4 and +5. So I won't be surprised if we see +4 and +5 pretty quickly in the season.

There are new levels for lifts but in the end, it's more or like additional features. I don't know how it can go, but it's basically because everyone has level 4 now. "Allowing creativity as they said".

The "entertainment" bonus was a bit tough to take especially since coaches they would want MORE points for this and not just a +1 for putting more hard work in it. (Boy they were not happy with that)

The most interesting part : KP no.3 in the tango. Fabian Bourzat was pushing for the rocker to be counted as a part of the KP, some other did not want it, but it ended up being counted (or do we have to wait for a final communication again ?). It was at the end and there were very few people left but the majority of coaches voted in favour to include it (Fabian Bourzat, Barbara Fusar-Poli, Catherine Papadakis, and 2 other coaches that I don't know). I only saw Piper&Paul's coach not in favour of it, and I was suprised, because G/P is one of those teams that can force an edge and get that KP.

I don't think Gilles & Poirier ever earned more than a level 2 this season internationally in their rhumba.

That's correct. I find it interesting how they didn't manage to get a level 3 at any point though since they always have either the second or third KP but never both at the same time. closest they got was at Olys where they got the second KP but got a T on their third
