Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

I think the only two events we can definitely count out are Skate America and Rostelecom. Then it might be the easiest for Nathan as he starts Uni to not travel as much, so he could basically choose Skate Canada and be done with the GPs until the final. He wouldn't have to leave the continent at all for any competition that season until Worlds. If Shoma chooses NHK, I don't think they will also invite Yuzuru as this doesn't make sense, because either Shoma or Yuzuru will not win, and 'only' (presumably) get second. It's highly likely they both would win their second event, but you never know, stranger things have happened - so the japanese fed would basically screw one of their top men out of an almost guaranteed win, with Javier and (presumably) Patrick gone from the circuit. CoC and NHK are back to back, so that's not ideal, but doable, as Shoma would be back in Japan and wouldn't need more travel until the final.

Oh, don't even worry about the bathrooms. It's Japan. They'll have enough toilets, and they'll probably be high-tech (with a bidet where you can choose to wash the front or back, a button to warm the seat, air to dry after washing, etc). [emoji4]

I think foreigners don't go through the lottery system like the Japanese. The link to buy tickets is different, probably on a first come first serve basis like with GPF last year. It might even be easier. But in any case, I think you need to get the tickets early to make sure. I don't know if a certain number of tickets are reserved for foreigners and how long they keep unsold tickets or what the system is, but better to be safe. So cool, I hope you get to go, demarinis!

Well, not every toilet is like that Latremu. Yes, they have their luxury toilets in some buildings, but as a westerner I also got quite a shock when I found a toilet like this, in the heart of Shinjuku. I certainly had my problems there, so toilet wonderland isn't everywhere. Oh dear! :scard7:I think deedee definitely was in Saitama before, so maybe if she reads this she can chime in!

Yeah, NHK is the biggest ??? for me. You're right that one of the medalists has to take it, and the logical one would be Shoma, but I also wonder if the Japanese Fed will agree with you. I also believe it would be an interesting head-to-head.

the Japanese fed doesn't usually shy away from big head to heads for their top skaters. Daisuke and Yuzuru have compete at NHK together, so have Daisuke, Nobunari and Takahiko, so have Mao and Satoko or Mao and Akiko or Mao and Fumie. If anything it would create even more interest and buzz for them. Besides if they meet there, they will be expected to go 1, 2 so it wouldn't affect their GPF qualifying chances. (obviously this is all in theory)

I feel like I remember people joking around about don't drink too much at Saitama cos the situation isn't the greatest. Luckily in Milan my first day (which was practices) upset stomach went away. It could have been pretty ugly!...demarinis, another thing on the package deals is that the ones I've seen don't include plane fare, so it does start to get pretty costly. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun, and I haven't totally ruled it out yet.

Were the rules different back then? Because both Daisuke and Yuzuru were on the podium in 2012 at Worlds so how could they both have gone to NHK? I have no idea why they did it, and it was a stupid decision. If NHK were the only competition in Japan next season I could understand them both going, but it's not. They will face each other on japanese ice at the japanese Nationals and at Worlds. I don't know, perhaps Yuzuru plans to win the elusive Skate Canada this season, or whatever. I don't care. For me personally I would prefer Shoma going to France again, as I would definitely find a way to see him this year, but yeah...guess we have a long time to speculate as they won't release the info anytime soon.

I think with Nathan, he would like to do Skate America and France since both are during school breaks, plus Skate Canada is right after Skate America. So I think Shoma will have more a chance to get Skate Canada and then NHK or COC

no it was the same rules, actually that's the time when French and Japanese feds got together and agreed to exchange their skaters. Daisuke and Hanyu were 2nd and 3rd at worlds and Joubert and Amodio were 4th and 5th and both Feds wanted their 2 skaters at their home GPs. Hanyu was originally assigned TEB and Amodio NHK and they swapped. (A big motivation for that was that the GPF took place at Yuzuru's hometown the year after the tsunami, so that's why the swap was allowed btw)

Apologies if this has already been posted.
IceNetwork has a poll for best men's SP and Shoma is included!
https://twitter.com/icenetwork
Little less than 1 hr left to vote.

The poll ended and Nemesis won with 38% of votes, just a bit over Winter with 36%! Both were great programs indeed and I enjoyed both of them this season. Nemesis wins with cool choreography and Nathan sold the hell out of it with his coolness. Winter has beautiful melodies and phrases embodied by Shoma's skillful and lovely edges. Well deserved to be top 2.

^He might go against Yuzuru, but not against Nathan in the GP, it's impossible, first three at Worlds don't meet each other at the next season's GPs.

Where exactly is Worlds again? Saitama? Is there a contingent for foreigners? No one wants to go through japanese ticket hell!

I doubt that Nathan would like to go to NHK either, so I think it's more likely that Mikhail will go to NHK from the three medalists. Then we need to know if Shoma goes to Lombardia again next season, or will perhaps choose another Challenger event. (I'm secretely hoping he will graze the Nebelhorn Trophy with his presence. Hey, it's the 50th anniversary, why not?) Isn't 4CC in the U.S. too? I think there are many chances for you guys to see Shoma next season without having to go to Japan! (But Japan is worth the trip, that's for sure!)

Coming in a little late, and I don't know if you found this info yet, but -- 4CC is in the US next year, in Anaheim, California.

And I am totally going. :)

Yes, originally it was going to be in Colorado Springs, but then they switched it to Anaheim. There is really a lot of stuff on the west coast next year with 4CC, GP Final in Vancouver, and Sk Amer in WA. I kept imagining a blizzard in Feb. in Colorado Springs, so it may be a good thing it's in Anaheim instead.

If it was in Colorado Springs I would have been able to drive there and travel would have been inexpensive, so I am a little less pleased because now I have to get on a plane. But a blizzard in February wouldn't be unheard of.

I really wanted to go to Colorado Springs but will probably not go to Anaheim. I was at the Figure Skating museum there quite a few years ago and was looking forward to visiting it again. I suppose I shouldn't rule out Anaheim - definitely cheaper than Japan. And the weather not quite as risky as CO. Hope you get to go to Anaheim and that Shoma is there!

Haha I get used to "Japanese style" toilet (if you wear kimono, Japanese style toilet is better than the modern one, though I prefer their luxury toilet aka washlet)...well I wish I can see Shoma skating live and Japan/ China are the nearest countries for me, US is definitely no cox I don't want to "beg" the US officer for visa :/.
On the other hand, how to purchase ticket and how can I compete with local fans for ticket are major issues though, especially the former cox I have plenty of poor experience of (trying) to buy sth in Japan.

Shoma's been invited to attend the Alvark Tokyo (sponsored by Toyota) vs Kyoto Hannaryz professional basketball game on May 6th. he's scheduled to participate in events before and during the basketball game as a special guest!

If anyone (me) has harbored any hidden desire to see Shoma next to very tol men, we're bound to get some interesting photos.

(the team's colors are black and red. LOCO LOCO!)

^^^Please, please Shoma. Keep doing events like this so we don't go crazy during the off season. And don't let the basketball hit you in the face like you did in that other video clip from Worlds.

Sometimes I wonder what he thinks. I mean don't eat vegetables if you don't want to but DON'T let the ball hit you in the face!! :noshake::hpull:

Oh no, isn't Saitama the one where you have to wear Depends because there aren't enough bathrooms (again!).

Hi @tikudzi. You're hilarious!

Whut???

I'm pretty sure it's at Saitama Super Arena, and they don't have enough toilets? Urgh...

Oh no don't tell me that. That would not be good for me.

Okay MaiKatze, here I am, because a toilet is calling me?! :drama::scratch3::laugh2: Didn't mind going back a page or two here to check what's going on, but I ended up checking 'Depends' on Amazon... :slink: thanks to Arriba. ::rofl:

Yes, you'd better be very careful re toliets, especially if you're a woman. And YES, they did have Japanese style ones actually, but most of them are Western style, only one or two J-style in each restrooms, 4 years ago... It was crazy indeed I had to stand in line forever just for a toilet break. Be kindly reminded, even Zamboni time is NOT ENOUGH for women.

I think another caveat with foreigners is that they don't offer all event tickets either. At least I believe that was the case for GPF last year. So when it comes to singles you'll probably have to decide which one you want to see more because I can see both ladies and mens going in a blink of an eye. I'm sure worlds will be great. I'd like to go myself, but I'm looking forward to keeping it continental for a while. I'll be recovering from the Olys for a bit anyway (which was probably worth a couple or even a few worlds if I'm talking entire trip costs...). My mind is already looking toward Montreal in 2020.
