Nathan Chen

^Re: Nemesis, maybe in that particular show he was tired. But otherwise in all of the fan videos I have seen from SOI he has been doing nothing but bringing the house down. And several reviews on FSU have named him as one of their top highlights from the shows. Super energetic and charismatic - nothing like the competitions. I really hope he brings it at the LI show - I want nothing more than seeing Nemesis live skated to its full potential :))))

I've seen quite a few reviews not from FSU that named him a highlight as well.

I think the crowd was pretty sparse and Nathan seems to feed off their energy. That said, I've seen only positive comments about the performance elsewhere.

From the Ft Myers show

the ice is a bit small for Nemesis, thus Nathan skipped some parts in stsq. but other than that, IMHO, Nathan is as energetic as before.

Also I think Nathan only did one quad in last night show not multiple quads, no quads in Nemesis, just 3lz, 3t and 3F,

At most one quad 4T in back from the Edge, which so far I only watched parts of it, like the spin parts. any full length video of BRTE from last night.

This thread moves super fast, jeez. I had to catch up on like 10 pages. And the topic switches every 2 pages lol. But interesting discussions, I’ll be back in a bit to share some thoughts. Thanks for sharing everyone :)

Does Nathan change up his spins for every show? It seems like he just does whatever he feels like.

Should be Allentown. You can tell from the final spin of Nemesis.
You are right! I think that spin does look like the one short clip we saw earlier from Allentwon, losing a bit of steam at the end.

Well then I have ZERO idea what that poster was talking about. This was skated with total commitment and abandon. It's clear by now some people will just never get Nathan, and it's fine. There's no point trying to convince them otherwise

everyone is entitled to her own opinion. when watching these vids that sheetz kindly linked (THANK YOU sheetz!) you can't help but be biased by the fact that people were singing along and screaming during nemesis in this video--someone near the video-recorder (if not that very person) is a die hard fan :)

the vertical video pains me, especially since nathan is out of camera frame sometimes, but i am very grateful for the chance to glimpse his skate from home, and for the video evidence that some fans in the audience were enthusiastic til the end of nemesis.

Haha, if by biased you meant my perception of the performance was skewed by the enthusiastic screaming in the video - well, trust me, I have seen Nemesis enough times and have felt let down and critical every single time Nathan didn't perform the program up to my level of expectation in competitions. So I definitely can spot a great Nemesis performance when I see one  No sugar coating from me.

Quick update, just got my new camera. Will share videos after the show. Don't have much experience with video recording other than using phone cameras but will try:).

By the way, I will bring 2 backup batteries.

well, i hope he doesn't disappoint you or the other die hards i know who are attending tonight and tomorrow. i hope that everyone who puts in the effort to see him live will go away feeling at least gratified that he gave his all, if not entirely ecstatic, because nathan is human and no one is perfect. i enjoy reading your critiques, because you think like a much smarter version of me :)

looking forward to your comments after seeing nathan live

That's true. I am actually starting to feel worried that this might be too many shows for him. I wonder if it'll start to feel a bit tiring? Remember how COI used to be even more stops than this - I wonder how skaters felt back then? But even back then I don't think they had to do two programs and participate in multiple group numbers.

thank you for going the extra mile with the equipment. i am grateful for any glimpse we get from any attendee, if only so i don't wonder if he was sickly or too exhausted, etc. because of other fans' less than glowing impressions.

we are all human and i very much appreciate your generosity, but i am thinking that most folks who share video/post a snippet do so because of one of these reasons:

-the fan wants a record of having attended an event--wants to have something for a facebook post, or a blog...
-the fan wants to have re-watchable footage, and already knows nbc's camera followed adam during the group numbers

it's all about relative priorities. if you only wanted a record that you were there, a group photo with shine and the other fans should do it! or even better, your own meet and greet pic with the cast ;)

if in the moment, you want to give all of your attention to nathan, i absolutely support that :)

thank you for going through the trouble and dealing with the stress of equipment delivery. all i can truly hope for (because honestly i already have a ton of old videos to watch, and i enjoyed nathan best when he was younger) is to hear you had a fun time and survived the traffic

Maybe Nathan tries to add little variations to his performances in order to keep it fresh and fun.
