Evgenia Medvedeva

Isn't she already getting backlash for leaving Eteri? I acknowledge this will be far bigger, and I also don't know what "switching" means for Russians (dual or not, can become Russian again, the difference in sense of belonging/patriotism, etc.), but there have been athletes who have switched so they can compete, I think. At least in Pairs. I assume they also got backlash, but maybe Medvedeva will get a larger backlash for being a star for so long. She would need to emulate their mental strength if she needs to, assuming she feels this is the best decision for her.

I am hesitant to speculate just how many would turn their backs on her, or how much stress this would cause her, and for what duration and when.

Anyway, this is all just speculation. We don't yet know if she's switching, and this is a far weaker rumour to me at this point. As I said, I don't yet see a net gain, given how switching nationalities and the procedures for making the Olympic Team etc might work.

I am amused by the amount of backlash one gets by simply suggesting that Evgenia might get another coach other than Orser, especially since no formal announcement has been made so nothing is set in stone. If the rumors do confirm to be true, good for her and I wish her the best of luck. But there's no harm in speculating other alternatives in the meantime.

I dont see her changing citizenship. She is loved in Russia moreso than Yulia, Adelina and Alina. Changng coaches and training bases is one thing changing citizenship is another.

Don't forget Zhenya almost refuse to play the Olympics games after Russia has been banned by IOC. As she loves her motherland so much, I don't think she will switches her nationality.

Moving to a new coach is never easy. I doubt she moves because he brings better opportunities. She is getting all the highest scores so it doesn’t bring her more in term of PCS and reputation. She moves because she wants to continue skating for a long time and improve her basic technique. It’s not going to be easy but moving is still better than staying stagnant at the same place.

That's called political rhetoric. Elites athletes love the competition. Most of them do anything to stay in the sport if they love it. Besides switching which country you represent doesn't mean you hate your original country. The Olympics are full of athletes who represent their country in uniform only. Jeez, look at all the Russian hockey players in NHL. I don't think any of them were branded as traitors for not tearing up their contracts to play in the Olympics. I'm pretty sure the only country that she would experience backlash for would be the if she chose to represent the USA, lol.

She changed her IG description to something along the lines of "insult means block" and posted in stories a picture of a tree lol
I will say it bothers me she doesn't put olympic medalist in there :drama:

She should hire an account manager. I wonder if she has one? Or deactivate her account until the gossip dies down maybe.. Just a suggestion

Firstly, Russian hockey players play in NHL is not the same situation. They play for NHL teams to earn money but most of them still represent for Russian national team.

Secondly, I know the situation of nationalized athletes. In Hong Kong, it is quite normal. I've never think that those nationalized athletes are hate their motherland. However, is it necessary that Zhenya has to switches her nationality? Why some people think that changes a foreign coach means she probably switches her nationality and represent for other countries? Although there is an intense competition in Russia, still no reason why Zhenya has to avoid it.

I think that's enough for the rumors that Zhenya will switches her nationalities.

It's too early to spread this news. If this is true then maybe not a good timing to said she won't represented Armenian while she's still negotiate with rusfed.

It seems many Eteri's fans disturb Zhenya in these days:confused2:

So Kostornaia was really out here on her IG live being awkward about the Evgenia situation...mess. I can't wait for the official statements.

Just one more hint for moving to TCC: I remember TAT, who is known as a great fan of Zhenya (and vice versa), talking with enthusiasm about nutritionists at TCC (on Javi's example: he lost some kilos in Oly season but stayed strong and healthy) and complaining that there are no such perfect specialists in Russia. If Zhenya wants to avoid Yulia's problems, she could just follow TAT's advice...

No, they were unable to represent Russia in the Olympics because the NHL would not release them for it this time. That's what the other poster was saying. None of the NHL players from any countries were allowed to play in the Olympics. That's why Canada wasn't very competitive in hockey this time. All the best Canadian and American players are in the NHL, so by refusing to let the players participate in the Olympics this time, the NHL essentially neutered any real chances of either of those two countries winning a gold medal in hockey. From a business standpoint, I understand, but as an American, I was ticked off a bit by it.

As far as Zhenya goes, no, it is not necessary for her to switch countries in order to train with a foreign coach. It would be easier for her to make an Olympic team in 2022 in any country other than Russia, but that is the only advantage to switching, and only she can decide if it is or would be worth it. It's not like she has no chance of making the 2022 Russian team anyway; it's just that she's a lock for the Armenian team, probably into her 30's if she wanted to skate competitively for that long. In Russia, even if she makes the 2022 team, her longevity will be...not as long. There are just too many talented skaters iin Russia. But anyway, no, she can train someplace else, like in Canada with Orser, and still compete as a Russian for Russia for as long as she can skate well enough to make the Russian team.

What female skaters have had unquestionable and stable success since Yuna? Oh, just one...Medvedeva. Yeah, it makes little sense then for the only consistent champion since Yuna to go train with Yuna's coach. :dumb:

That question was entirely related to Orser. But you speak as if style of training did not have anything to do with the results, as if it was the skater only (if it was that way, than it would be completely unimportant, who is coaching who :) ). The matter is all Eteris ladies have stable results through all season, do nearly no mistakes and are challenging the rest. That can't be said about Orsers ladies. If he is so good, why there are so little results.

Her gold was 8 years ago, but a strong case has been made that her silver from 4 years ago should have been gold, and anyway, that's one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the last 8 years. Who is better for Zhenya than him?

After 2010, Yuna was no longer coached by Orser, so its irrelevant if Yuna won silver 4 years later, and I'm really not willing to fall into flame Sotnikova vs. Yuna. Korean fan sites are suitable for that. Who is better for Zhenya? That is a question that only Zhenya is entitled to answer, I just must calm down that groudless optimism about Orser the emperor :)

To the bolded part: Yes, I think the primary difference is in the quality of the skaters that he has had. I think that Eteri has had better raw material to work with, and so I think Zhenya will do fine with Orser.

To the last part: My bad. I didn't know that Yuna switched coaches; I thought that Orser coached her until the end. Still, it isn't like he's had no success at all, and Eteri's success has not translated into older skaters. Zhenya has likely gone as far as she can go with Eteri, so the choice now is to retire or to train with someone else. She does not wish to retire, and there is likely no one better for her than Orser.

Well, I completely understand the logic "I have learned what I could from Eteri, so I will try to learn something new." I don't have problem with this. There was a comment I completely agree with:

I just don't share the enthusiasm for Orser as a guarantee for greater results than, e. g. 238-240 points combined :), which many fans seem to believe instantly. And, the stability of the results. For me, there is no reason for such optimism, when I consider existing facts. I don't want to make an impression that I only care for points (like we all Eteri's fans do, right? ), but if the motivation is mostly winning, than high score is essential (well, if it won't be all affected by rules changes).

it is even funnier, she wrote: 'there is no democracy on my instagram'. i love her. people dont want to remember their failures.
