Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

I mean, if she's going, it means she can pay for it. She's not moving to Canada without a plan on how to support herself. If the fed doesn't give her money, she's made more than enough. Again, if Lil Bet can afford it, so can Zhenya.

Of course she had a plan. They all do. We often think that because we tend to get emotionnal over figure skating, the skaters do too. I'm pretty sure she has a team around her, starting with her mom. Then carefully studied possibilities, and discussing it with Brian Orser.

This would 100% explain why Evgenia would kind of be forced to ghost Eteri rather than being more up-front and discussing the change with her. That would've given Eteri the chance to get RusFed involved on her side and make things more difficult for Evgenia.

Then again, Eteri might have known anyway, since other posters have pointed out that there seems to be evidence that they knew Evgenia was leaving before this past weekend.

I 100% don't believe Eteri when she said she knew of the separation from the news. From the news, really? But 'ghosted' might be Evgenia finalising all the details with BOrser and RusFed first, then just informing Eteri they're done. Full stop. Bye. (Her PR team is totally on point though :p)

Might explain the rather unhinged reaction from Eteri yesterday.

I'm pretty sure Kazakhstan pays fully for Tursynbaeva. They sleep on oil.

LOL why are you so reluctant to accept that if she's going it means that she can afford it? Brian isn't gonna take her if she can't pay for it. If she can go, she can pay for it.

Obviously she’s going to panhandle on Yonge Street.

I am overall kinda sad. Looks like retirment to me, and my prediction here is that next season she will lose not only to Alina, but also to Osmond.

:rolleye:

If Evgenia does start losing next year, it's because of her injury + jump technique that is barely hanging on, not because she moved to BOrser.

I do expect her to have more of a fighting chance with BOrser than she would with Eteri; he has more experience working with skaters well into their adulthood, and Eteri does not. Long-term, I anticipate seeing improvement in her jump technique and skating skills.

She's fighting for her skating. If she stayed the current path with Eteri, she would stagnate, and that would definitely look more like retirement. Too many skaters stay with their coaches past the point that they should, but Evgenia is making the change before her skating and her results suffer - and that's the smart thing to do.

Ahh, yes... she refers to quads lol and injuries  - the new big issue for those who cannot jump quads.

You seem intent on imputing bad motives to Medvedeva. Figure skating is a dangerous sport. For men and women. Trusova’s falls this season were scary and could have resulted in serious injury. I think it would have been unkind not to wish them health. I wish all figure skaters health. No one wants serious injuries.

Since rumour started there is no announcement for Wakaba. So i don't expect her to go now. Sad, i think she is the one who need Orser the most. But well, it's not the end of the world.

Probably, she wanted to underline that she didn't know it from Evgenia herself... i think Eteri likes that her skaters communicate with her first when it comes to these decisions, to come with flowers and so on...

It may be Alina's choice, next year.

Put my two cents in.

Raf slate is pretty full on the ladies side tho. He just took on two high profile young ladies from Japan and Korea in Marin and Eunsoo. Idk that he would be willing to take on a Russian skater, especially from Eteri’s group. That’s a lot of drama for one, two he already has good standing with Russia, might not want to jeopardize that with possibly taking on another top Russian coaches high profile skater ya know? He’s pretty exclusive about who he takes on, he barely made an exception for Kolyada and that was just for summer (so far)

But I really like Alina and think she’s the most talented of any of Eteri’s students so far. If she can go somewhere else to help her career longevity like Evengia is doing, I’m all for it.

If a skater like Javier Raya can afford to train at TCC, a 2-time world champion and silver Olys medalist should have no problem. Why on earth are her finances anyone's business? Japan also has world class skating facilities and coaches and yet Yuzuru trains in Toronto.

People are taking the decision to train with a non-Russian coach outside of Russia as an insult to Russia and an insult to the idea that Eteri is the best coach in the world ever for every skater at every point in their career.

They also get privacy at TCC; that’s important for high profile athletes.

Javi was able to support himself in Canada while keeping Orser on payroll and back then he wasn't accomplished yet (almost no sponsor/fed $$).

I highly doubt Medvedeva will have a problem with finance.

Can we pls stop with this ‚‘it‘s non of your business‘.. we are here to discuss whatever we want

Yes, so shady wishing health and longevity to the Eteri girls. Such a mean spirited girl.

It’s not shady, it’s shade. She is being super polite and classy but underneath this she is saying “I don’t think your juniors will last, bring it Eteri!”

I think it's a trend and a try to influence the public opinion and judges for skaters and coaches whose students cannot jump quads or 3Axel to say that's dangerous and to act as worrying.
Of course it's dangerous, but so it's jumping triples. Skaters can get injuries even from doing only steps...
