Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

If a skater like Javier Raya can afford to train at TCC, a 2-time world champion and silver Olys medalist should have no problem. Why on earth are her finances anyone's business? Japan also has world class skating facilities and coaches and yet Yuzuru trains in Toronto.
Because in Japan by the time 2012 it was difficult time for Hanyu and the other skating capitals in Japan were flooded with other skaters. He was almost invited to move to Hamada but she only taught girls.

It’s not shady, it’s shade. She is being super polite and classy but underneath this she is saying “I don’t think your juniors will last, bring it Eteri!”
Not necessary. I believe that that's projection. It does look like just a nice and respectful statement to me.

In addition to working with Brian, I think Yuzu chose to train abroad for the same reason Yuna did...to get away from overcrowded rinks and the spotlight of his home country. Yuzu is an absolute rockstar in Japan. It'd be hard for him to train there with paparazzi stalking him all of the time. In Toronto he has more anonymity and probably doesn't get recognized nearly as much as he would in Japan. That calmer environment is a definite plus and I'm sure Evgenia will benefit from that as well.

And ITA. Who cares about how TCC is getting paid? It's handled. That's all anyone needs to know.

Can we pls stop with this ‚‘it‘s non of your business‘.. we are here to discuss whatever we want

But some things are none of your business and quite disrespectful. This is a figure skating discussion board, not a gossip board about people's finances, personal lives etc.

LOL why are you so reluctant to accept that if she's going it means that she can afford it? Brian isn't gonna take her if she can't pay for it. If she can go, she can pay for it.
No, I'm just curious how does it work financially. It's concerning, because for that money Russian federation could probably raise up several super talented kids.
It's kinda question of principles: investing resources in your own youth or in foreign fs system.

She could be paying it with her own money, she has various sponsors.

Evgenia is competing for Russia. Technically they're continuing to invest in one of their top athletes. It doesn't matter where the funds are going to; it's an investment in a Russian skater. It shouldn't matter...

Raf slate is pretty full on the ladies side tho. He just took on two high profile young ladies from Japan and Korea in Marin and Eunsoo. Idk that he would be willing to take on a Russian skater, especially from Eteri’s group. That’s a lot of drama for one, two he already has good standing with Russia, might not want to jeopardize that with possibly taking on another top Russian coaches high profile skater ya know? He’s pretty exclusive about who he takes on, he barely made an exception for Kolyada and that was just for summer (so far)

But I really like Alina and think she’s the most talented of any of Eteri’s students so far. If she can go somewhere else to help her career longevity like Evengia is doing, I’m all for it.

I know, and i hope especially that Marin can regain herself and do a wonderful season.

I just think that Alina too, next year, may feel the same as Evgenia now and then have the need to found a coach. Next time can't be Orser

Or maybe investing money in two times World Champion, two times silver Olympic medalist and still young single skater who wish for improvement and longevity? :sarcasm: If they agreed they had to see some profit in it. Besides they are investing in their own fs system... Or maybe I missed an information about Zhenya switching countries

RusFed is investing resources in a super talented lady :)

I wonder what will happen if Lakernik and BOrser both push up Evgenia's PCS and GOE.

Good for her, let's see how this will actually work next season, but at least on paper she snatched the best deal out there. I also admire her for the grace she showed after her coach started digging out some dirty laundry - then again I didn't expect her to be anything but gracious.

She will do well, I believe in her. :p

Absolutely! Who knows, maybe Raf will make an exception for her too lol (but with much less drama please [emoji120]). Marin, Eunsoo, and Alina all on one team would be [emoji7]

As far as I know, if you are in the national team then you receive X amount from the Russian Fed, and they've frequently kept skaters who were not even competing or winning anything in the national team, if we want to talk about wasted resources. Zhenya works as hard as anyone, brought more than her fair share of medals and deserves the top level of funding allotted to her, whatever that might be.

Why are u all so worried about meds financial situations with orser?? this girl is the IT girl of current figure skating. She is the one with endorsement contracts with loreal etc. And this bold move of her, which creates so much buzz and drama will add a lot to her marketing value. Now she is seen as a character, a women, not longer a childish yes sayer under the scrutiny of an omnipresent controlling everything coach. That is what the media are looking for, that is what sponsors are looking for, that's what most of us are looking for. If she has clever manager, and no dout she has, they will make a lot of money with her. Already there is so much anticipation on the first clash of med and alina, not to forget the first clash of eteri with orser. Will they shake hands? Will they even look at each other? Is alina still following zehnja on instagram?
