2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The dress alina wore at the Olympics was a new one because she grew. :rolleye:

I know that I’m just saying they weren’t being mean to her about the costume and dressing her like a child. Indeed it wouldn’t have made sense to change her costume after wearing that one for a year and not changing routines.

Pretty sure that people don´t have a problem with Alina for being/ looking like a little girl. And a costume won´t do any good to anyone if the technique /artistry isn´t there.

Patrick Chan has skated in a tshirt and pants and that didn´t affect his chances to medal.

I hate to say it, but men are held to a different standard when it comes to fashion.

I am not sure how you see this but personally I find Alina's tutu iconic. She looks beautiful in it.

That‘s because she is a beautiful girl.🤷🏻*♀️ Still doesn’t make the costume suitable for OG. But that‘s just my opinion.

But they were. That was part of the problem from what I‘ve seen. All the people being salty that „such a little child won again against the more mature woman“.

Maybe they weren‘t. Evgenia wore that costume when she was a junior. And she looked like a junior in it. I just can‘t help it: Don Quixote is crazily difficult but the tutu and the whole routine just screams junior at me. Maybe they‘ve made things differently with Phantom of the opera. Personally can‘t wait to see it.

Of course Alina's DQ looked like a junior program... It was a junior program. Mostly based around a gimmick, also. I greatly prefer the SP. I hope she gets a more respectable FS for next season.

By the way, I doubt that the timing of the statement by Medvedeva and Polina leaving Eteri is a coincidence.

Zagi’s program is a junior program though. It’s crazy hard but she just recycled it from last year with the costume and choreography. If she’d changed her programs like you want her to have done she may not have won a medal because it may not have been as consistent or as well choreographed as DQ is rlly well done to the music.

The point is, Alina´s costume has nothing to do with her performance. She has won in it, and now she should get enough funding to buy new costumes. In her taste, as someone posted about her Olympic costume was new because she was taller, and she was skating to a ballet is was fitting that she skated in a tutu.

Artistry develops during years. You can deny it all you want, but no 15 yo is a fully mature artist and they shouldn't be. It'd be awful tbh. Let women mature and evolve and watching that development is wonderful.
This is among other things one of my pet peeves for saddling girls like Alina with things like POTO at 16. There is time ... or there should be time to gain the maturity of expression for such things. But ah well.

Want to thank you for all the sanity you're bringing.

So people coming to Canada just to be able to eat and drink? Is that your point?

Well put it this way, when Eteris athletes are starved and deprived of food and drink, how can they have longevity in their sport. Well balanced meals but not deprived. It takes calories and nutrition to build up strong bones and muscles. Not just a Smartie! 🙂

I read about her athletes being starved and deprived and then I think about the reports of Alena for instance eating a billion pancakes and sausages and whatnot for breakfast and think to myself that something doesn't add up.

Well, I'll say it again... High intensity activity like skating isn't possible when deprived of food. And living isn't possible when deprived of drink - In fact, athletic performance plummets enormously with the slightest dehydration and training like Eteri's couldn't be performed.

And yet plenty of very successful athletes struggle with eating disorders.

It is incredibly naive and simplistic to say that someone doesn't have a problem just because they are delivering athletically.

Somehow I'm not sure that Canada or Orser is a magic pill for that. Tursynbayeva has trained with Orser for years now and she looks way smaller and skinnier than either Medvedeva or Zagitova, despite being the same age as Med.

I like how people are talking about eating disorders not being present in sports because they're sports.

Alright -- ballet is incredibly taxing on the body. So no eating disorders in ballerinas, either?

Eating disorders are pretty different things - I intentionally didn't mention them. Those are psychological in nature.

I don't know whether they have or will have eating disorders. They seem to be a thing in this sport in general.

But remember that endurance work is also different from explosive work.

A strict diet is not an eating disorder.

Leaving a coaching situation is not a betrayal.
I find Eteri going all public a betrayal.

Eteri cannot habe this both ways Racking up talent after talent so she always had a champ while expecting her current champs to be k with this. It is perfectly fine if Med wants a different situation. She didn’t have to air the dirty laundry.
