1)Do you always tell your boss when you chg jobs? Well, it would depend on who your boss is & the situation, wouldn't it.
2)If someone drags you into a mud fight in public, do you always have to respond in public? immediately? Some might choose to do it in private, or at a later date. Zhenya responding in public is for the public, not for Alina.
Funnily enough, I've never changed jobs(satisfied with current one). But if I would, yes, I would tell. But we're not talking about me here.
I think if you've had a difficult job chg or professional breakup, you'd see things a little differently.

When I changed job I had to run away from a pretty unfortunate situation with a boss who was unstable and played mental games. Me and another colleague decided to leave at the same time, and we only told our boss we were leaving when we both had found a new job, because as unfortunate as our first job was, it was our only source of income and we could not afford to leave before being sure that we had a new job lined up. It's normal in all sorts of environments, sports as well

Agreed. Eteri has shown her desire to get out in front of the story with mudslinging, Evgenia may have wanted to limit Eteri’s chances to publicly bad mouth her as well as sabatoge her chances of moving.
The situation kind of reminds me of how someone needs to leave a domestic abuser. Not to trivialize domestic violence or insinuate Zhenya experienced anything to that level. But one is instructed to make all plans prior to telling their partner their plan to leave. It prevents possible retaliation but also lessens the possibility that they may be talked out of it. I think there are some similarities here.
Honestly this is why coach/student should have some boundaries to remain professional. People can change coaches and it isn’t personal. Coaches can decide it’s no longer in their interest to continue with a student and again it’s not personal, just a business decision about what is best for them. This is their job, they are being paid, and the athlete is likely being paid at this level.

I thought a bit more and even more convinced now that the current "exodus" is the best outcome for Russian senior ladies. Polina could have won SA - then she would have gone to GPF and who knows how she would fare against Sotskova there. Then the Nationals outcome could be different and the team could be: Medvedeva, Zagitova, Tsurskaya. Would not be such concentration of power too worrisome for everyone including Eteri knowing that all the juniors are also Eteri's?
These 2 moves are good for the balance and should make Russian team stronger. I am just a bit worried about the atmosphere in Sambo. Hope that they will use all their wisdom to smoothen the things there.

Why would she discuss with her coach, "Hey Eteri, I'm not sure this is working out, I might go coach-shopping" if it turns out Brian was saying, "hey, sorry, Evgenia, I'm full at the moment". Then where would she go? Not Eteri... and I think it's entirely possible that she did meet with Eteri but Eteri's choosing to focus only on the texts...
Also, do we know when that was filmed? (not released but filmed) To me, if it was filmed before she went to Germany that would make a lot of sense. She would probably think "why would I leave Eteri? she's like family and she's done everything for me" but then the doctor made her realize that she CAN'T keep training like that if she wants to have a career. I think whenever it was filmed, she did think that she wanted to stay, and something happened rather abruptly to change her mind.

Quite honestly, if the rumour of her federation wanting her to retire prove to be true (the artificial PCS inflation for Alina seems to indicate this), Evegenia is being pitted in a corner if she actually want to continue.

Have you ever say you hate someone in the heat of the moment? I can’t tell you how many times I said something while sad or angry that I wish I could have take back and I’ m an adult woman. If Evgenia said something, she told in emotional stage that is not normal, and in confidence with her coach of 11 years, she surely was expecting privacy or at least understanding and empathy. Evgenia gets no judgement from me, but I have say before the fact that Eteri decided to made public comments made in confidence does not sit well with me, for me is like a psychiatrist talking about the confidence a patient has made to him, Eteri was in a position of power and of confidence, surely Evgenia expected here to respect her confidence.

Not to mention Worlds 2018 showed Alina could be unstable sometimes so they will back a consistent skater like Zhenya until someone more reliable and more skilled turns up

That was filmed in March (don't remember exact date). Orser said she contacted him in April, 2. So it takes only few weeks for her to go from "i stay here without any doubt" to "i leave"

Yeah, but I think that makes sense, considering that she was practically given an ultimatum from the German doctor "change your training methods or you won't have a career"

Nobody here is saying that she wasn't already thinking about a change and denied it, what we are trying to say is that if she had told the truth and then Orser had refused her, she would have been without a coach. She did what most athletes (and people who change job) do in that situation.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. Previous 15/16 year old Olympic Champions have unfortunately not had the best post-olympics careers (see Tara Lipinski, Yulia Lipnitskya Oksana Baiul, Sarah Hughes). I hope Alina doesn't
follow this trend but if I was the Russian Federation I would want a consistent skater on my team.

Why not? Other sports do it. Plus we are at a state where the talent pool in Russia is overwhelming
