Boyang Jin

I really hope that he's going to TCC, at least for the summer. There hasn't been any recent news or updates.

*Fingers crossed* that Borser would train him and not mainly focus on his new star pupil Zhenya. 😂😂😂

Well, she's not going to Toronto until late June, so if "summer" means any time before then, then their stays may not even overlap. Regardless, Brian, Tracy, and the entire team have been good about scheduling as well as not taking more skaters than can be handled.

Howeverrrr...

*insert joke about Tracy not releasing Boying from her stroking classes until 2022 while staring down Brian and the Chinese Fed*

I dont worry about it, TCC (Brian) knows how to deal with several skaters, they always mention this fact and are proud of it

I hope he could have long-term training in a more competitive environment. China has many skaters but the men's field lacks depth. With Yan Han retiring and two promising young skaters in the men's possibly training under RA, I don't really see any training mates who could inspire him, either in Beijing or in Harbin. No offense to the others, but I really want Boyang to realize his full potential.

I'm 100% ok with Tracy doing that. 🙌🙌

Shhhhhh..... I'm still in denial about Han Yan. However, I agree with you, Boyang needs some motivation.

I hope his TCC immersion (may it be short or long term) yield a lot of good results.
I am anticipating the new season.

Hi. Crashing the Boyang thread because I was curious if there were "official" stats that were different than the wikipedia. In side by side photos, he looks slightly bulkier than Hanyu but Jin is listed at 5'7", 117 lbs while Hanyu is officially 5'7" 3/4", 125 lbs (while wiki is still saying 117 lbs which is why I was wondering about Jin).

Also, I was thinking about it recently and, given continuous progression, I think Jin is going to be the biggest threat to Hanyu in 2022 because he has the best jump technique of the current crop. With the +/-5 GOE's, Nathan, Shoma, and Vincent's jump flaws are going to hold them back. Love Kolyada's skating but I don't think he's going to catch up technically. Currently, Jin is the weakest in PCS, but I feel like it's generally smoother to slowly improve your PCS than it is to essentially rebuild your jumps. I don't see how the other 3 can justifiably get the +4/5 GOE without essentially changing their entire technique.

I'm not too sure where you can't get updated stats about him, sorry. 😶😶😶 I know he went under a growth spurt last season so wiki probably isn't updated.

I agree with you that he does has the best jump technique about of the current crop but he is judged the hardest and isn't given out GOEs like the other men who receive it like free candy. Worlds men's short program was a good example. I'm 100% sure that men like Chen and Uno will continue getting + 5 GOEs for weaker, under rotated jumps.

Finger crossed that Boyang develops that PCs skill but honestly, I don't think the judges would notice or reward him unless it was a sudden drastic change.

I think the main thing Boyang needs to work on is his skating skills (or get American citizenship :sarcasm:). Historically, in both 6.0 and IJS/COP, once those skating skills go up, the entire second score rises. Hanyu didn't start getting good component marks until he and Orser spent a year working on his skating skills and Kolyada/Uno have fantastic skating skills. Chan won 2 of his world championships off the back of those skating skills- he really only did one thing significantly better than the rest of the field but he was rewarded for them in all 5 marks. Even in 94, G&G/Urmanov/Baiul all won controversial gold medals off of superior skating skills.

Currently, Uno and Chen mainly get 1's and 2's for their jumps. They do occasionally get gifted 3's but it seems rare and only when they're doing something exceptionally difficult so I think the GOE's won't get too crazy for them. I'm hoping ISU clarifies things like "good height and distance" so Hanyu and Boyang can get properly rewarded for their jumps in comparison to rivals - no way should Chen and Uno get the same credit for the size of their jumps.

Also hoping that he is the confirmed 2nd new skater of Brian's 1-2 that he said he was willing to take on.

If he goes to TCC, we expect to hear though that he's spending lots of time with Tracy Wilson on skating skills at first.

She's known to take on skating skills when new skaters arrive. Lubov Ilyushechkina has been quoted about Tracy making her relearn cross-cuts when she came from Russia to skate for Canada.

While Brian Orser would be the primary coach, TCC is very much a team. When he travels for one skater, there are other elite coaches who keep the training program on track.

There is even one specialist who does nothing but coach spins to make sure all their elite skaters have level 4s.

Yep! Tracy handles SS, Ghislain is the jump coach (the improvements in SS could easily throw off his jump technique like it did for Yuzuru his first season with Brian and Tracy, so he could help if that happened), Paige handles spins, and I'm blanking on the harness coach's name. Lee seems to handle more of the juniors alone or with Brian; it's suspected the other new skater at TCC, Conrad Orzel, a Canadian junior, is probably being coached by Lee.

I suspect that quote was about 1-2 _full-time skaters_ under Brian as the sole or first named coach of a duo, though ofc I absolutely could be wrong. Since Javi is almost certainly staying on for an abbreviated season (1-2 Challengers and Europeans have been mentioned as a possibility), that means Brian already has got one more skater than his alleged upper limit of 4-6 skaters for the coming season (limit mentioned by his friend Doug Haw): Stephen, Shingo, Junhwan, Elizabet, Evgenia, Yuzuru, and Javier. He also coaches Gabby but Lee is listed first, so I am not counting her here as that may mean Lee does the bulk of the head coaching for her.

For now it sounds like a short term, probable summer visit by Boyang and his coach to Brian and co. Perhaps once Javier retires fully (the season after next?) Brian might decide he could take on another person, which could be Boyang (so the short term thing easily could be a test run), or he might take in someone else like Wakaba, who Ambesi heard was going to Brian earlier (it's not impossible she's coming for next season, just less likely with Evgenia just being taken on--perhaps W wanted to wait until after she graduates before moving, or Ambesi was given wrong info, etc). Or, if Brian finds things too much even with Javi leaving, he might not take anyone in as a full-timer at all. A sad thing, but I'd totally respect him for that.

*inserts conversation starter*

1. If Boyang were to learn another quad jump, what would you want it to be and why?
2. Should Boyang attempt a quint?

1. For me, IF Boyang were to add an quad to his repertoire, I would love for a 4A so he would go down as the first one to land it. HOWEVER, if he does land it I'm sure it would only reinforce his status as only a jumper in the media, unfortunately. But I mean... It's a 4A.....😎😎😎
A 4Loop is probably more achievable and I won't be surprised if he brings it out this season though.

2. I would love for Boyang to land a quint later in his career when he's on the edge of retirement. Perhaps in his last competition, he could bring out a quint and retire in awestruck glory. Like bye b****es, y'all have fun fighting to land quints now. ✌
