Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

But she is a skater who influenced this industry and so many people around the world. The girl in red. That was just outstanding

We're talking about GOATs, not one-time-"influencers". Nice try attempting to change the subject.

Plus, the "girl in red" concept was Lipniskaia's own so you can misattribute credit to Eteri.

So it leaves Eteri with gold and silver AND Yulia's team gold?:) Not bad at all, and I believe in her, she might be the winner in the end

it's really pointless discussion, however sayings like Orser is one of the best coaches based on amount of medals his student got last 3 Olympics is the fact.
And again, Yulia's gold was 4 years ago and did you forgot Hanyu? However, obviously Eteri is the best for girls, as I said.

You don't understand Russian, do you? "Задели результаты" is not the same as "is hurt". "Будем и дальше задевать" is not the same as "hurt him more".

I mean, if you want to be more specific it's more like: "He's peeved by our results [...] so we'll continue to peeve him out". That's still very much untrue and, honestly, just childishly petty to say Orser somehow took Trusova's quads personally and is just jelly. Let's be honest, it's really not about Trusova anyway. Eteri was hurt that Evgenia left her for Orser, so she used the only thing Orser said about another one of her students to accuse him of some personal vendetta.

GOAT does not mean the greatest for just a couple of seasons, thats the problem with the russians, no one shine the way Yuzuru does cause no one has the time

OK, I understand that someone might be a fan of Eteri's. And I am not, believe it or not, some huge Brian Orser fan or even a devoted fan of Yuzu, although I respect and admire his gifts. I have other men skaters for whom I save my devotion;)

BUT

There can be no serious comparison of Yulia, no matter how beloved, to Yuzu. :eeking:None, zero, nadie, zilch. No ladies skater in the past ten years has accomplished what Yuzu has in men's skating. Or even come close. End of discussion.

Ok, let's change the word then, if Russians can never be GOAT due to their number and burning out let's call them extraordinary. That fits them better. Whatever.

Eteri accusing Zhenya of making childish comments and then being peeved about Orser and making these kinds of comments, makes her just as childish, except she's a 40+ woman who should know better.

I don't think ladies' skating stands comparison to men's skating at all.

And yes, Kwan is a "GOAT", as pointless as that title is. Not even considering her artistic accomplishments, she never finished off the podium for 9 seasons straight.

Eteri needs to close her mouth and talk less.

I say this for her own good. I think the media knows she easily offers up controversial soundbites and they're going to push every chance they get because a coach who doesn't know when to hold her tongue, especially one working with popular young athletes, makes their job of creating sporting drama easy.

It all should have blown over by now but here comes a special rehash of what she said augmented with extra commentary. This will keep happening too unless she just quietly goes about her business next season but, based on her track record, I doubt she'll do that.

I wasn't talking about Michelle, but only about Yulia. Or Zhenya (so far) or any other current skater. That's also why I said "last ten years", which I believe Michelle had stopped skating by 2008? But I wasn't following skating in 2008, so I could be wrong:scratch3:

Comment about Kwan wasn't directed at you, it was at whoever had a doubt about that. Maybe should've put a break there.

But I don't think Men's and Ladies' skating stand comparison. Different tech content, different measures of "artistry" (at least based on its developmental stages in any single skater), different time-frames for "longevity" (I think men finish their careers later than women in FS on an average?).

I wouldn't want to devalue the accomplishments of Hanyu being compared to a female "GOAT" who might exist in a parallel universe right now by saying "no man has accomplished what this female "GOAT" has in the past 10 years", either.

Nobody doubts anyone. I think GOAT ii more about the impact, that's all

That's fine. You're allowed to find Lipnitskaya's accomplishments influential, several do. I'm not one of them, but I'm also one of those who don't think "GOAT" carries any weight. But the fact remains that Lipnitskaya's accomplishments were all within a single season, and as such probably don't hold the same pull and reach as the accomplishments as, again, Kwan who remained on the podium for 9 seasons.

This discussion and debate wouldn't be happening at all if people just looked at accomplishments as they stand, and talked about preferences, instead of trying to measure success across several eras, and seasons. Influence and, yes, impact is different from calling someone a "GOAT" definitively.

Tutberidze's hurt by Orser's words, but she's herself produced skaters with influence. I do wonder what her words would be if some people didn't keep toting Orser's students as "GOAT"s instead of just celebrating their successes as they stand. It's bound to produce professional jealousy and insecurity -- that the coach of two "GOAT"s "criticized" her. But then, maybe I'm giving her too much credit.

But did he criticize her, though? A comment about how he's unsure if the quad phenomena in junior ladies isn't going to be short-lived may not be the most popular statement, but I don't consider it criticizing Eteri.
