Nathan Chen

Raf has said Nathan was training the quad off ice much younger than when he started to do it on ice so yes you can and Nathan has. Once you get the revolutions down, it’s easier on the body to do it off-ice than on-ice but you can still be at risk for injury off-ice which is why Raf in particular is very picky about what shoes his skaters wear when they practice off ice and the surface so as to minimize risk of injury.

I really want to see him doing an off ice quad:luv17:

However I thought Raf meant he was preparing Nathan by doing triples with techniques that can be easily adapted into quads once he gains power, not just practicing quads off ice.

He has said both, just on different occasions iirc

A stable 3A (even if small and cute) is already an improvement. Raf and Nathan were able to maximize his score with the old rules - so I am sure they will be able to figure out the best plan for a high score with the new rules.

Raf said he wants to hire more coaches to work at the new facility ? I don't know if that would give him more time to work with/travel to Nathan though.

Is this like another Yanny/Laurel thing? haha - McD's voice doesn't really sound like Nathan to me - and the voice sounds like it is too loud from where Nathan is sitting vs. where the video is filmed ?
Yes, to me too. It sounds like someone sitting next to the person holding the camera.

The voice sounds like Nathan to me

Also, ew at McDonald’s (except their apple pie) 🤢. Love yourself Nathan, it doesn’t have to be like this 😩

Nathan seems to be enjoying his cheeseburger - he’s ‘lovin it’

ew at McDonald’s apple pie in the US

But the fried apple pie at McDonald’s in other countries like Japan, Hong Kong, I think it’s also available in Europe - super yummy

#bringbackthefriedapplepie

I have a weakness for Apple pie so I’ll pretty much eat it however and whereever I can get it, I’m not picky. But that’s all McDonald’s is ever getting out of me, ever since we were made to watch Super Size me in elementary school. Disgusting.

OMG I used to love McD's fried cherry pies. :p

Thanks for the link. I am not dreaming then. Thanks @discode @mamamiia

Here is the article about the new facility and hiring more coaches. More coaches would sure help. That is how tcc is managed right? Yuzu oftentimes trains with Tracy and his jump coach without BO. There was an an article that he was not used to see BO gone with juniors or Javier when he spent more time training in Toronto back in 2016. He used to spent some some time to train in Japan with his mom recording. Don’t know who is going to record for Nathan if he wants to do the Skype thing.

I think Mariah is nodding in Romain’s direction. She nodded and then looked at the person

Most elite training works in this manner, you are not with your main coach every single day, you might get say 20-40 mins coaching from them a few days a week. The rest of the time you are working with other on ice coaches, specialists, choreographers, jump techs, and then there is off-ice dance instructors, physios, and trainers.

It sounded like Nathan when I first watched it. Now it doesn’t sound like him any more. I think there’s another guy at the table.

yes - Mariah, Nathan, Romain and another guy for a yummy lunch at McDonald’s 😋 ... maybe tomorrow they can go to In-N-Out 🍔🍟

Raf’s plan sounds quite ambitious - 20-30 coaches. 3/4 of the ice at this new facility I’m guessing would be used for hockey (primarily? exclusively?)

FYI, off topic, here is the thread about BO interview with icenetwork in 2016 which touched a little bit Yuzuru ‘s training

Thanks IC3Rabbit for your input.

I just wish Raf got more support. Did Tammy mention that soMeone from USFS was one factor for her decision to move to Colorado Springs?

Tammy was asked by a fed member if she would want to move to CO Springs. She finally did because she closely works with Tom and Christy's respective coaching teams (their skaters), so it makes it easier.

Making this kind of move with wanting to open this rink and hire so many staff (coaches etc) I’d put my $ on most of the ice is for figure skating and they loan it at off times (nights, saturday/sunday morning to local hockey).

The Rinks is scheduled to open a facility at the Great Park in Irvine on Nov. 1. It will have three NHL-sized rinks, an Olympic-sized rink, and seating for 2,500. "We're owned by the Ducks so everybody looks at us as a hockey business," Trottier said, "but figure skating is also a very big part of our business and something we'd like to help grow, also."

Scheduled to open in July 2018, the Great Park Ice & Sports Complex will feature four ice sheets, including one that could seat up to 2,500 spectators. The 280,000-square-foot complex will offer a variety of ice sports including youth and adult hockey programs, tournaments, figure skating, curling, broomball, sled hockey, public open skating and will be used as a practice facility for the Anaheim Ducks.

Local coaches and players are hoping the project will help alleviate the shortage of ice sports facilities in the area. While the popularity of ice hockey has grown over the past 25 years in Orange County and the area has become a destination for top figure skaters, infrastructure hasn’t kept up with the pace.

The county hasn’t had a new ice facility built in nearly 20 years, said Art Trottier, vice president of the Anaheim Ducks RINKS, which operates four ice facilities in Southern California. The RINKS Learn to Play programs, which offers first-time hockey players the chance to get on the rink in full equipment for free, has a six-month waiting list.

Henry and Susan Samueli, owners of the Anaheim Ducks NHL hockey team, are the major benefactors of the $100 million facility through the nonprofit Irvine Ice Foundation. The facility will be operated under a 50-year lease with the city, with the option for a 50-year extension. After the lease is up the facility will revert to city ownership for $10.

“We are excited to have FivePoint as a partner of the brand new state-of-the-art ice and sports complex in the Irvine Great Park,” said Michael Schulman, chief executive officer of the Anaheim Ducks.

“FivePoint has been an essential part of the development of the Great Park and continues to support community assets that have established the area as a destination for recreation and sports. Ice hockey participation in Orange County, including youth, high school and adult, has seen exponential growth in just the past few years and we are happy to provide new resources that will help meet the growing need for ice time in the area,” Schulman said.

The facility will also give the ever-growing Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (now up to 48 teams) an appropriate location to host highly attended games as well as highly anticipated figure skating competitions and other events that require additional seating. In addition, the $100 million plus facility will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certified as part of the NHL Green initiative.

"This is a great day for the city," said Irvine mayor Donald Wagner. "We're going to have four sheets of ice, one of the largest facilities in the country, and we're going to have the opportunity for our local kids to come play hockey, figure skate and train with the best. This is a first-class operation, a thoroughly professional operation, and it's going to be a community icon. I'm excited."
