Jason Brown

Jason says in his YouTube video that he will be training with Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson and their team.

He makes the drive from Colorado to Toronto look like a lot of fun :) - and at the end of the video he arrives at TCC!

And we will be getting a David Wilson free skate. Orser likes the Rohene short.

"Brown contacted Orser shortly after 2018 U.S. nationals asking about the possibility of training with him. Orser, in the midst of pre-Olympic preparations, said, “I had to check my dance card to see if I would have room. Then Jason came to the rink during a break in the U.S. Stars on Ice tour and he fit in so well. He is such a great energy to have around the rink. Tracy was really pushing for it, so we just had to do some juggling and figure out how we could make this work.

“We are going to take him on as a team so it is not just going to be one person working with him. I think on paper it will be Tracy and I as the main coaches but Karen Preston is going to work with him. We can work with him technically, but we have to keep him healthy. He seems to be jumping in with both feet. It will all be new, but he will get the best of everything.”

Tracy pushed for this! Excellent!

It's really interesting to hear that Tracy pushed for it. Since she's the SS coach and an Olympic-medal ice dancer, I bet she liked Jason's basics a lot.

And wow, he really was on the ball -- right after U.S. nationals? Makes me wonder if he was thinking about moving even before nationals happened?

The video was nice and it's nice that him and Kori parted on a good terms, or at least on reasonable ones where the switch is happening with relative little drama, especially compared with the Eteri/Evgenia spilt.

So with Jason now in Canada--I wonder if this means we'll likely seem him at the Autumn Classic. It's in a suburb or Toronto, about 20 miles south. He might end up at SC again too, since that's in the Montreal area (though selfishly, I want to see him at SkAm cause I'm planning on going!)

I just heard the good news and I am doing my happy dance.

Jason is the type of person and skater that would be asset to any team!
Wishing him the best of luck with his new collaboration! :cheer:

I am really happy about this too. Honestly, if any team can help Jason get the technical content he needs to compete, I think it's this one.

Jason is such a phenomenal skater, it was neat how Brian mentioned how well he fit in.

I think it's finally time to come to Finlandia Trophy!!! :p

Four (or three and a half, with Javi's schedule) of my favourite men in the same place...

I am so happy for Jason!

I love this change! :luv17:  :luv17:

From what I can recall, Tracy has always been highly complimentary of Jason when she's done commentary on his programs so I'm not surprised that she pushed for him. Also, I am glad David Wilson will be doing the FS choreography and not Lori Nichol. It will be interesting and exciting to see how David assembles a program that plays to Jason's strengths but still extends him artistically in a new direction.

Thinking back to the Eteri/Evgenia split ... I wonder if Jason brought Kori flowers before he left.

Plus Finlandia is not til October so he will have a bit of time with his new team. On the other hand, if Yuzuru is at AC there will be no chance of tickets!

ETA: It sounds like the change was amicable, although I’m sure it will be difficult on both sides. And least, I hope so. Jason has really been like a big brother to Kaia and Athena, so I hope he stays in their lives.

Yeah, I totally dig Jason being with Boyang and Yuzu!

Also the universe laughs... just think I kinda didn't like Boyang much when he beat Jason back in 2012 and over time became a huge fan of his...and now they're training mates! I cannot wait for all the cute Evgenia and Jason selfies tbh.

Y'all, I was in class while this whole thing was going down and I. Nearly. SCREAMED. So happy for Jason and I really hope he enjoys his new training environment. Wow what a change though to move to a new country. I'm also really glad Brian Orser sees potential in him and is willing to do something no one thought he would ever do again: coach an American skater and go through all the USFSA paperwork. I'm so so so glad he thinks Jason is worth it :luv17:

Tracy has been around for the 6.0 and the current scoring system. I think she's always appreciated fine skating skills on top of the technical ability. I'm glad Jason made the comments about Kori - I've said all along that if he left Kori it would be with her blessing. I certainly don't know but I would bet he discussed the move with her before he even called Brian. If anyone has looked at his website lately it's all of a sudden become quite professional. I think it's also interesting that Nancy Kerrigan's husband, Jerry Solomon, is his rep. Didn't realize that before. All of this makes me believe that Jason and his family are totally committed to his competitive career and will do whatever it takes to get him where he needs to be.

So happy for this change.

Life has gotten very busy these last few weeks with vehicle production starting for one of the programs I work on. So of course today is the day I get a second to breathe. I guess I picked a good day to catch up on all things Jason Brown! It's like all the stress has melted away watching Jason's latest YouTube video with him smiling and singing on the car ride.

Like everyone else here, I can't wait to see how this season goes. I think that the coaching change will be very good (definitely not a bad track record for Brian), and I think technically everyone else in Toronto will provide the spark needed to get a solid quad for competition. I kinda hope there's a video soon from Jason about how the first week or month goes, but I could also see him starting to focus even more with the start of the season, and then it's another two months before we get a video. But no matter what happens, Jason at least looks genuinely happy, and I wish him the best in this new chapter of life with new coaches!

Phil has said that Jason's injury will keep him from serious jumping till July... also he hurt it slipping on confetti.

Very unfortunate.

TCC, unfortunately again, has so much experience with injuries that it should still be fine, even with that time frame. They've dealt with something similar before. Knock on wood. Might not be ideal but he's there for the long haul so there's no rush. Health first.
