Hronop can no longer see the line because he's gone WAAAY beyond the line and crossed it some time ago! :laugh2: Thanks for the analysis, Hronop! You can most definitely be the Shoma expert on musicality and artistic expression, your analysis of his programs/movements/jumps are so well-thought out and eye-opening. I can actually easily picture you doing a thesis on Shoma.

I think we--the majority of fans here--are all beyond this line already. And some of us are WAY beyond it... Time to erase that stupid old line and draw a new one, closer to Shomita.

Sorry for "educating" you, c3zara. [emoji23] I hope it was a fun viewing experience.

Since the old line was close to the child he was and now we are getting closer to the man that he is and continues to evolve into, I support this. [emoji6]

MaiKatze, don't troll me! We are DONE, and I mean DONE, with See You Again! Although I still sometimes hear it on the radio and it still brings a smile to my face automatically, a split second before I remember that Shoma skated to it (and the moves play in my head). It's a visceral reaction (the smile especially). I too am supporting a "Spirits" medley! That would be cool.

Funny I just went back in this thread to see when Loco and LiL were announced and found this:

From Mikaboo on 23rd of May 2016. He announced his program on his website:

Shoma just updated his website with his new programs!
http://www.shoma-uno.com/info/
SP Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra
FS Buenos Aires Hora Cero & Balada para un loco

He says they're both very difficult...

And the information we've been waiting for... he got his wisdom tooth pulled out :)
He's been going to university (he said at PIW that he hasn't attended any classes yet), has been taking 1 day off the ice per week, and ate a cake (he's been staying away from sweets during the season and will continue to do so, poor boy).

And then almost a month earlier, an elusive exhibition appeared at PIW. Shoma used his previous competitive program in the previous seasons:

Shoma skated to this music at PIW today according to reports.
Wiz Khalifa - See You Again ft. Charlie Puth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgKAFK5djSk
I don't know if it's his SP, FS or EX. Maybe someone will ask him during the "fureai" time.

ETA: Someone asked! It's an exhibition program. He has an EX! Amazing!

This was 3rd of May 2016!!! If someone told us he would skate this at the Olympics Gala I think they would've been called crazy. Well, who knows maybe See You Again is special to Shoma for a reason we're not aware of. So I'm not exactly that frustrated that we haven't seen Great Spirit yet.....we'll see it at a Gala in 2020 still! :)

Oh wow I didn't know what that Brian Joubert reference was about but I just found out  thanks for that

My condolences! Are you ok? :console:

I can't even remember the old line anymore :coffee:

Thanks MaiKatze for going back in time! I find it interesting that Shoma described Loco and Lil as very difficult and they turned out to be AMAZING programs! He said the same about these new programs. I'll take that as a good sign! I can't believe that in a few days we know what the SP will be :yahoo::party2:

I made a typo whilst navigating back to this page and landed on page 63, oops. But it was lovely seeing all the supportive posts from just after Worlds 2016! :) I do wish I had found out about Shoma (& figure skating) earlier!

I read on another thread that the backloading bonus will be limited to 1 jump in the SP and 3 jumps in the FS.

:laugh2::laugh2: I agree and vote for this proposal to be accepted!

Haha, poor c3zara! Been there and it was a traumatic experience...

Was there a line?? :scratch2::slink:

So exciting we're close to Friday and the SP revelation!!! Hope both FS and SP are as fabulous as Loco and LiL since Shoma has expressed about them almost the same as two years ago. Thanks for taking us down memory lane, MaiKatze!
:yahoo:

I also read about it and don't like the idea either...

And I'm also very upset about the FS being 4 minutes long. Give me back my half minute of more Shoma enjoyment!!!! 😤

Are these rules really making figure skating more balanced (artristy/sport)? I'm not an expert but it doesn't seem to me, imho...

I've managed to get over the trauma although I'll probably be scarred for life because of that video.

Has anyone been watching the isu congress live on youtube? I've watched some bits and read the discussions here on GS. Yeah, I'm also not a big fan of the new backloading rule and cutting the FS to 4 minutes is really sad for us fans :( But tomorrow is the big day that everyone is waiting for because they will discuss the no quad repetition rule. I heard that it has pretty good chances of passing. I think it would benefit most top skaters including Shoma as he could probably replace one 4T with 4S but it would be pretty disadvantageous to some other skaters who can only do 1 or 2 types of quads.

I once tried to watch an ISU meeting live. I didn't find the dialogue particularly engaging and a lot of the explanations still seemed quite unclear to me afterwards.

I've heard that it might pass as well. I don't think it is a good idea, it would most likely push the younger, up-and-coming skaters into trying jumps that they're not ready to master yet. There are only a handful of people who can do several types of quad, plus I'm sure the viewing public don't mind seeing a type of quad being repeated in a program...

Awww, such fun to have a "blast from the past" MaiKatze. And it makes me miss mikaboo so much. I wish she would join us again! Wherever she is, I hope she is doing well!

Really looking forward to the new SP. I hope people remember to keep the following things in mind:

--Don't be surprised when people say "Oh, that program is so empty!" Shoma is known for adding things to the choreography as the season goes on, not deleting things. So he has the framework, but there's more to come.
--Don't fret about the costume. Chances are really strong that he will not be wearing the "real" costume. Satomi Ito is probably still stitching on the bead work, even as we speak.
--When people asked Shoma about his expression after a program debut, his response was that at first, he was just trying to get the choreography down. Then he works on expression as he becomes more and more comfortable with the choreo.

Such exciting times! I can't wait!

Agreed with Arriba whole heartedly! Basically it’s the music that we really want to know then for full program we will still have to wait and see until his first competition.

Winter was quite empty when debuted but at Lombardia it became sooooo intricate.

Excited for Shoma's new SP - and to know what music he is skating to! No need for the program to be at its full potential (including styling) yet.

I don't think the no quad repetition proposal is a good idea either and hope it doesn't pass - even if it supposedly would benefit skaters like Shoma and Nathan.

Didn't really watch the congress but from what I read, it seemed quite unorganized. And at times they were even discussing things that seem to belong to the past (I didn't know the skaters have to give their music in CDs!!!!!).

The no quad repetition proposal also seems like a bad idea to me even though Shoma could be benefited from it, as oatmella says.

Nevertheless, we'll find out tomorrow...

Agreed with Arriba and gftn regarding Shoma's SP. We're very excited but should be aware that this will be like the sketch for the masterpiece. What has me more excited is to know which music is he going to skate to!! Lets be kind even if he wears the "burnt chicken" costume 😂. He'll surely have everything at 100% for his first comp. Good vibes for him!!

If you're extremely curious, it's on YouTube. Just remember though, "curiosity killed the cat". [emoji23]

I'm so hyped right now!!! :party2: It's something with a lot of guitar that's for sure. It sounded like flamenco to me too at first but now I don't know  I think I will love it though. And Great Spirit also OMG

Yes, sounds like flamenco (i'm thinking of costumes and I can only see beautiful Sevillan dresses ) but i'm far from an expert in that type of music so I don't really know. I wonder if it's only guitar or if there will be lyrics ??
I'm so hyped !!!! :hap93:
And yes, he's probably gonna do both Great Spirits AND the SP, what a glorious day ! All hail prince Shoma and his many new programs ! :hap85::hap85:
