2018-2019 GP Assignments

Okay, fair enough ;).

But are we sure now that it won't be Korea?

nope we are not sure.
I am personally trying to jinx it so somehow south america becomes only option.

I mean, they made a jgp in australia last season, so why not south america now. This may be our only chance in the whole century to host any international competition :D

An alternate solution is to take one of the existing Senior Internationals that is not a Challenger and make it a Grand Prix Event.

I hope if it is not Korea it is somewhere else in Asia/Oceania. It would be unfair to have three GPs in Europe.

I think it's difficult to make an existing competiton a GP because a GP is just so much more expensive. You gotta pay for the skater's flights, hotels, and everything. It would be tough for a smaller fed to take that on so suddenly with barely enough time to get sponsors willing to take up that bill. I really do want it to stay in Asia though even if it's not Korea.

Fair or not fair- they don't have enough time to handle it in a way to make everyone happy. Travel arrangements and logistics too takes a lot of time. Whoever hosts it has to do all the job on a top level. Good luck to a new event organizers! Hope you make it as memorable as other events that where relocated in the past. Moscow Worlds come to my mind.

I'm actually surprised Korea is not confirmed. I thought they would love to use those facilities they built for the Olympics again and again, you know, keep those busy and profitable. Maybe they have a different idea about it. Look at Sochi- they make a lot of events in there in order for those newly built facilities to do their job and not become deserted.

I think the initial plan for some of the Pyeongchang facilities was to tear them down after. I'm still personally on the side that Korea has accepted and that the Japanese news outlets are reporting about the possibility of what will happen if Korea refuses, but we know KSU and I wouldn't put it past them to say no because they didn't want to spend money.:/

All the small feds should band together and have a traveling GP they all pitch in and cover the costs between each other and take turns hosting the physical location. I ‘ve always wanted to go to Reykjavik ;)

It would be nice if it came to different continents. I agree it would be unfair if there would be a third location in Europe, unless nobody else can or wants it. For selfish reasons, I wouldn't mind a GP close to home, of course.

Are there any rinks in South America that could work?

No. There just isn’t a large enough fan base to justify something that expensive.

If Australia has an arena that can support it, I’d go with that. They had a very well attended JGP last year.

Brisbane was indeed a nicely attended junior grand prix. As far as I can remember it wouldn't be big enough for a senior grand prix, but I guess there are other rinks?

It's also not too far from Japan, so Japanese fans canot still travel there without major jet lags. If it becones Europe, Helsinki is probably most convenient for them.

How do you know? There are more south american fans on this board than Australian fans, for example.
If they did a GP here, I am pretty sure it would be well attended, because there are quite a few people who watch FS here, and also a lot of people who would attend it because of the novelty.

Also, SA is as close to America and Canada as Australia is to Japan ^^

Well, the question isn't where fans would like it to be, but rather who can, on quite short notice, see their way to hosting the thing and are sure they can find a way to fork up the cash required to do so.

if south korea doesn't take it, my bet is russia is going to host it again.

Although I'd love for Barcelona to get it:love:

Look, Russia has a Rostelecom Cup already. Not that I truly mind them to host another one in St Petersburg for a change or in Sochi but umm, what about other great countries lots of fans would love to visit? (Holy cow, I thought I was the only one thinking of a second GP in Russia this season given the circumstances. Now I know for a fact I'm not that crazy. What a feeling.:yes2:)

I’d say the more important question is whether there is an appropriate facility and a local organizing committee who has the experience and systems in place to obtain the necessary funds and organize everything - including ticket sales - on quite short notice - 4 months.
