2018-2019 GP Assignments

If Nathan is really going to France, then essentially Shoma can be expected to go to two of SC, NHK, and the unknown GP. Provided the date stays the same, the unknown GP is back to back with both of the other events. I doubt he would want both SC and the unknown GP because they are likely to be an ocean apart. Which means . . . Japan would be wise to invite him to NHK.

Maybe I missed something (or I'm just dumb), but why is Nathan so surely going to IdF? Is it politicking? Wouldn't it make more sense for Kolyada to get IdF/CoR?

SA and IDF are the only two work for Nathan’s school schedule. He needs approval from Yale if the competition is not during Yale’s break. That is why at this point he could not commit to 4CC next year. Why is that politicking?

Ohhhh I see. Sorry, it completely slipped my mind that he's going to Yale next semester. :palmf: I was just trying to rack my head thinking of reasons why Nathan was going to IdF, since GP Assignments have a lot to do with politicking, I assumed that it might've been due to that.

In addition, he already expressed his preference in an interview, and as reigning champ he gets his way.

Which interview? The Phil Hersh one? If that is the one, I think it is because of the schedule. A fan asked him about go and 4cc during Soi m&g in May.

This is from Phil’s interview back in early April.

Skate America, in Everett, Washington, takes place during the Yale October recess. The French Grand Prix event in Grenoble falls during the Thanksgiving recess. The Grand Prix Final, in Vancouver, begins the day before Yale's pre-finals reading period starts. The 2019 World Championships, in Japan, are during Yale's spring break.

Japan has to invite him to NHK, because otherwise they'd have to invite Nathan or Kolyada. It would be back to back with CoR for Kolyada and I'm sure they'd rather invite Shoma than Nathan. Plus Nathan has already stated his preferences. There is a 200% chance Shoma will be at NHK, and Skate Canada is most likely the other GP.

The interesting thing there is that it seems to me that either Yuzuru and Shoma will face off in both of their events, or only in one and Yuzuru would then face Nathan in France.

Skate Canada makes perfectly logical sense for Shoma; but if the other event is in Korea, it's very close & wouldn't be that unlikely for an athlete training in Japan and also competing at NHK. The weekends are closer but a lot less exhausting as far as travel time goes. Sui & Han were first seeds last season, and they chose to do Cup of China & NHK back to back. Won both events handily.

However, if the other event is in Europe, then it's a two continent hop back to back with NHK. Less plausible.

Strictly speaking, since it was his choice to go to Yale, the fact he would need special approval from them to go to other GPs should be irrelevant when it comes to making assignments. No different than a vacation or wedding.

Practically speaking, because he’s the #1 seed, he’ll probably get what he wants.

Can I just say I love how pre-announcement the speculation on GP assignments comes down to the wire in the style of a logic puzzle.

Like this is us right now.

I don’t know why but I am incredibly anxious right now. I just want the assignments to be released already :)

I'm anxious cause I bought the tickets already and am waiting for speculations to become true 😂

i bought tickets in december... and i don't care.. no matter who will be there, it will be a great show... of course, if shoma comes my way ;) i will take it ;)

??? Do ISU consider such personal conflicts, and accomodate the schedule according to a personal program of individual skaters??? Uni schedule of Chen is not a problem of ISU, to me this sounds a little strange.

Of course not. But traditionally the wishes of the number 1 seed are granted. It doesn't matter why he wants whatever events he wants. It matters that he won Worlds.

I expect these will come out while I'm asleep; they usually do. Try not to give me forty pages to read when I wake up tomorrow guys, will you? ;)
