2018-2019 GP Assignments

We'll have our Tutberidze vs Orser - showdown at Skate Canada. That'll decide who's the superior coach for the 2018-2019 season.

Really? A event say nothing, long term results is what matters, specially when you are talking about the future of a young athlete. I guess you would care for a sportwoman/ sportman to be happy and healthy before a pety one sided fight

I'm so excited !! I saw some of my favorites facing each other, but I think there's a lot of good news in general! .
I expected Polina to have a more relaxed assignment, but I think it will be a bloodbath for her, even so, I trust her wide and big leaps.

I would not mind if Wakaba beats Zhenya hahaha, I really love Waka and I think the two compete very well, and they should score the same. Zhenya will be adapting, but I also trust her nerves and her ability to land any jump even if she is dying.

Gracie is back and that also makes me happy! Gracie is my favorite American

Maybe in theory, but that still will be a storyline for the event. Well, perhaps not as much if Medvedeva wins in a decisive fashion, but if it's even close, then...

Gah Korea why would you throw away a golden opportunity. I know it's expensive, but still, it's a once in a lifetime chance...Still happy that Eunsoo got a spot and at Russia no less! Junhwan with his one spot too, but unfortunately he just didn't compete enough last season to get high enough on the SB list of an Olympic season of inflation.:( Super excited for Junehyeong for getting a spot omg!!

That Russia host spot better go to Gubanova!!

I made the same mistake and it shall never happen again
I was walking home staring at my phone and nearly screamed many times :yahoo:

Last year I was in a train. And the only thing I did for the long journey was :tantrum: at my phone.

So Gracie must’ve committed to doing two events, but she’s only been assigned one. This seems a little bit strange to me: the last “comeback” woman I can remember is Sasha Cohen in the 2009-10 season, and she received two invitations despite being out for much longer than Gracie. But I’m holding out for Gracie to get the Skate America TBD.

Perhaps this means we’ll see Gracie at Glacier Falls or another early competition, where she can showcase her level for USFSA? The entry deadline was yesterday.

Polina used it last year only got one invite.

If Gracie shows well in early season I’m sure she’ll get SA TBD

Anna could not because she competed last season at Skate Canada. She is probably best off sitting out this season and using that clause next season.[/B]
(But then the next wave of Russian juniors are coming up :hopelessness:)

I Stand corrected. There's nothing certain about her comeback though. RUS fed will probably wait for the test skates to see if she's in any good shape. If not then Gubanova deserves it or Samodurova if she does well at SA.

Rule is:
“Come-Back” Skaters/Couples: Skaters/Couples who were previously seeded (placed 1 to 6 within the past 10 years at a ISU World Figure Skating Championships) and subsequently did not participate in one or more competitive seasons will be given priority consideration to re-enter the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating for selection of up to 2 assignments if they commit in writing to participating in two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events and if such return is announced and confirmed by the date of the annual Selection Meeting
(plus cannot have used this clause before)

Thanks for sharing this. My initial understanding was that come back skaters who are seeded within 10 years are automatically given 2 spots, so I was confused with Gracie only getting one. But despite that, I would still think it's more likely that she will be given that TBD for SA. (But you may never know with them; they might give it to either Angela or Courtney. Still hoping for Gracie though). Anyways, I'm just glad she's back to compete.

While I'm disappointed over SK's decision not to accept the GP (and why now Cha and Eunsoo only have 1 spot each), I'm actually excited for the Helsinki's event, particularly the men's lineup. That, along with the ladies lineup in SC. Probably two of the most interesting competitions of the entire GP circuit this season.

Withdrawals always happen. I imagine Junhwan Cha could still get a second assignment, perhaps Pogo and Han Yan could get one too.

I just noticed that Jorik and Loena have both events together.

So it appears that Gracie got a GP assignment without being on the ISP. http://www.usfigureskating.org/story?id=84156&menu=TeamUSA That's impressive!... I think.

It does appear that COR is the same weekend as sectionals. So... assuming USFS actually puts her on the ISP, (ISP gives you a bye through regionals to sectionals) this one assignments will give her a bye to nationals much like Polina last year.

Han Yan is taking this season off, he's said it himself, so no GPs for him even if others withdraw.

I can hardly believe Gracie’s listings in the GP:eek:

But *if* she did a summer comp, and that’s a huge if, my guess would be Philly International, held at the same rink (IceWorks Aston Pa) where she has been reportedly training. A heckuva lot easier to get to than L.A.:)
