Yuzu got one in London, Ontario at World's...

Midori Ito at Calgary Olympics is another big one....and in Halifax at World's...

I always remember how Davis & White got a standing o at 2013 Worlds for their FD in Canada! Even the commentator remarks about how even though the audience wants Virtue/Moir to win, they still appreciate good skating. Great sportsmanship from the Canadian crowd :thumbsup:

In a foreshadowing of their historic and iconic performances at Worlds 2012 in Nice, Daisuke and Yuzuru received back-to-back standing ovations after their respective free skates at the 2011 GPF in Quebec, Canada. B. Esp commentators rained superlatives on both, e.g., Daisuke "skated like a lord," and Yuzuru was "Leonardo di Caprio out there on the ice and so many ladies in here would love to be his Juliet..."

As an aside, I have to pinch myself at the good fortune that both of them will be competing this season.

Now for my own addition for the thread:

One of my favourite moments of this topic: Meagan and Eric’s freeskate, when they became back to back world champions in 2016 in Boston. Ok sure, it was in North America, but Canada is still a different country. This was the season everyone was predicting they’d be way off the podium, with the return of V/T, Ksenia and Fedor skating lights out at the GPF, Sui and Han knocking it out of the park with their worlds SP (I was so sad for their mistakes in their free program, mind you. I would have been ok with it if they skated well and won), and the rise of Aljona and Bruno, quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in their first season competing together internationally and bringing home world bronze.

Their reaction once they finished the program was so sweet.

I know a lot of snark was directed at Meagan for her excitement both during and after their performance, but would it really be a pairs competition if someone WASN’T snarling about Meagan over something she said or did? Whatevs, most people who dislike this pair could still agree that they were the rightful winners.

I was doing my fair share of standing in PyeongChang. Yuzu, Shoma, Aljona and Bruno, and Mirai (in the team event) easily come to mind.

As for other instances, Yuzu after his SP in Boston. I distinctly remember this picture of the group that wears american jackets sitting in the front row waving the Japanese flag:

I was there crying like a baby. Getting chills about it as I type.

Sasha Cohen used to get them, but it's been too long for my brain to go back & retrieve which events & when.

Whenever she threw it down with the short, usually. Definitely in Torino in 2006 and Worlds in 2005. She got stand o for malaguena in its debut at Skate Canada despite a fall in footwork, but the performance was fire!!

Men’s FS GPF 2015 in Barcelona was amazing; especially Yuzuru, Javier and Shoma.

And Shoma was a bit of a dark horse there since that was his first senior year.

Yuzuru Hanyu RJ1 was already named. But what amazed me was not the cheer after the skate, but at the medal ceremony. Takahashi and Chan were so suprised that they look back the crowd behind them.

Todd Eldredge has gotten great receptions from the Canadian audiences - 1996 Worlds FS (Edmonton), 2001 Worlds FS (Vancouver). Yes, there were many Americans in the stands, but the Canadians were very appreciative of his performances too. :luv17:

Being in the audience @ 2003 Worlds was electrifying for Shen & Zhao. We were standing in a section full of Chinese flags (and waving one for them).

We were also so fortunate to be in the audience @ 2016 Worlds, witnessing Javi win his 2nd World title.

Patrick Chan's 2016 4CC LP in Taipei -- it wasn't just their reaction at the end. They cheered for EVERY jump and ALSO for the spins and steps. When people clap for spins and steps, you know they're into the program completely!!! No matter how many times I rewatch this, their appreciation gives me chills. What a fantastic audience!!! :hap85: And the program is a piece of heaven. :yes:

And I'll give a special shout-out to Korean audiences, which are extremely vocal about their appreciation for the tiniest things. They scream when skaters merely skate by them.

Carolina Kostner received a beautiful standing ovation in Saitama after her SP. The Japanese crowd has always been so nice with her and "Ave Maria" SP defined Caro's skating from start to finish.
