Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

Looking forward to Shoma's take on Moonlight Sonata. I liked his Fantasy the best of his programs so far, and I think he's great with this type of compositions. The final product should be lovely. I have yet to watch Stairway, but I saw Great Spirit today, and for some reason wasn't feeling it. :/ Everything was flawless and the movements well-timed so I cannot put a finger on it, but something was missing for me, as if the music wasn't as close to his heart as classics? Just a personal impression, I'm not sure anyone else feels this way. Anyhow, onward to Stairway it is now.
And kind of Shoma to keep us updated through the internet; if only more skaters would follow his example!

same for me i hope maybe if shoma skate grespi again in different ice show i like this program (i dont like PIW TAT but surprise me i love nagano TAT now).i know shoma love great spirit program but i am not feel his skate.hope this program surprise me like TAT

I only saw the Nagano version, so I'll watch the other ones as well, maybe it'll grow on me. But definitely thumbs up for experimenting with different genres.

I have liked Stairway from beginning. I also liked that he was trying new movements with Great Spirit. I agree about TAT at PIW but it has grown on me and liked it more at Nagano.

Gonna be off-topic and post the part of Miss Mori here, as I really like how the stories of those young ppl are correlated to Shoma. Also it's a nice way to introduce traditional Japanese "jobs" to the public too.

Miss MORI Akane is a woodblock printer of woodblock printing company (Takesazado) which was established in Meiji 24 (year 1891).

M: For tasks I was unable to do in the first year, I was able to do them in the second year; then in the third year I managed to do what I couldn’t do in the second year.
It was interesting to build up (my skills/ experiences) day by day.

Narrator: Mori learnt wookblock printing for eight years already but she’s still being considered as a junior in the field. She’s working bit by bit to produce her drawings.

M: Woodblock drawings were very detailed in Meiji era and they were truly reproduced as the original. (In order to get closer to that level,) It is important for me to print the drawings again and again everyday so that my body memorize how to do it.

Finally some Shonews!! I fully expected a classical piece for the FS given that the other 3 programs are so far from it and Moonlight Sonata really is one of those pieces that I never get bored of no matter how many times I hear it, one of my favourites actually so I'm happy with it even if it is not the most original choice. Also I loved his Kreutzer Sonata junior program so for me Sho+Beethoven seems like a good combo :luv17: And he wants to skate it at The Ice?? Can't wait!!

This is so interesting. So she needs to be just as dedicated as Shoma and also needs for her body to get muscle memory, just like Shoma does when he's learning his programs. The parallels are very interesting. Wow, she's quite an inspiration and must really love her craft! Thx for translating that.

I swear, I was watching one of 'Moonlight sonatas' just yesterday, and it was Lori Nichol's FP for Fumie Suguri (Worlds 2002)!

So far I've watched G &G, Fumie, Uncle Dai, and Gabby & Guillaume. The sentimental favorite for me has to be G & G. And I loved their minimalist costumes. That was one of those performances I watched and forgot to breathe while I was watching. She was ethereal, and the whole program was mesmerizing for me.
