Evgenia Medvedeva

I was rewatching junior programs today and stumbled across this one:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PG0gFfsVYw0

Still one of my favourite performances by her. It‘s very innovative and creative! And how she changed that combo to 2A-3T after having a shaky 3S despite the axel being her weakest jump after lutz is again our girl showing nerves of steel. :luv17:

yay! I love it, this was the first time I saw Evgenia, this was broadcast on TV by Teledeporte. The commentator, Paloma highlights:
-Decomunal (amazing) 3F-3T
-Excellent placement in the jumps
- Deep edges, excellent stsq where all the corners of the icerink are used

Susana (the other commentator), says "that 3Lutz was not totally on an outer edge, surely the technical panel will give her a (!)", Then adds that Evgenia has been very smart, since she could not make her 3S-3T that she had planned, but she makes a "perfect 2A-3T".Both mention that Evgenia seems elegant in her lines, and that she presents another type of skating, much deeper.

When I saw this on TV it seemed to me that the trainer was not very happy with the triumph of Evgenia lmao (but I think that in reality she always had that face, it's just her character, maybe).

I love TDP! they're so nice and are always positive about Zhenya's skating.
My favorite of them is probably Worlds 2016 fs

Paloma: "Eteri Tutberidze as always so serious..."
Susana joking: "Looks like she is lecturing her, poor girl"
Lol

Btw if we assume, SP is confirmed, and it's jazz (and I love it :luv17:). What do you think they would choose for FP?
I think either warhorse or contemporary (similar to 15/16 FP) (my pick)?

I would love Zhenya doing warhorse, but I do not know which she can take? Yuna has done so many, and they all were fantastic, and I think having the comparison with her right now would be not a smart choice. Plus Alina is doing the 'Full house Warhorse' in both programs...

I‘m 100% sure that they won‘t choose this piece as her FP, but I would LOVE to see her skate to „Requiem for a Dream“, (maybe combined with another song). It’s very intense and it would be interesting to see what they‘d do with it.
And IF they choose a warhorse, I would want Swanlake. I know, this one had A LOT appearances last season, and the ones before, but I‘m dying to see her as a real black swan!

Yes, I would actually like to see Swan Lake from her! Zhenya's good at being elegant and emotional and dramatic, looking at Anna Karenina, and she likes programs that can have some kind of meaning or story to them. I think it would be a good fit for her as far as warhorses go, I'm sure she could do it stunningly.

I'd be interested in a Firebird from her. Scheherazade might also be interesting, but David did do one for Yuna, so maybe a different choreographer (so not this year).

I think the Jennifer Thomas version would work well for her.

yes, Requiem is amazing peace and think it would suit Zhenya, I would maybe take it for next season so Zhenya has more time to improve her SS and get along with David and his choreography. Music is very powerful and you need to show very powerful skate.

I honestly can not imagine Zhenya for Scheherazade, but it could be really interesting choice.
Firebird is also nice idea, think it has been a while since anyone skated for it.

I personally want her to take Tokio Myers It gives me chills!!!

Please no Firebird for Zhenya!!! I still remember Gracie‘s egg laying bird thing program and it gives me chills. Not in the good way. I‘d rather take Carmen or POTO or anything than Firebird, it‘s just so... ugh. I know, that‘s only my obviously subjective dislike for this music but still...

In general, I don‘t really like warhorses. Obviously, I too have enjoyed them (I usually liked most of Yuna‘s programs even though she frequently skated to warhorses) but what I‘ve always loved about Zhenya were her unusual music choices. Some frowned at them and even had the nerve to say she always did the same but I liked them. Would people rather have the 5th black swan in one season? And as we already have a jazz SP, I‘d prefer a more lyrical FS for her. She does this kind of music well and there can still be changes made. Her Memory program for example was different from her usual ones and it worked extremely well.

And yes, I know David likes warhorses but... I guess I can pray he‘ll spare Zhenya!

After the exit from the ice, Zhenya said Eteri about that moment: "I was skating and think, how not to #censored#(screw up)." Eteri pointed her to the television camera and Zhenya turned back to it. :)

As I remember then in the K&C Zhenya achieved to be kissed by Eteri. It was the cute moment.

I agree with you, no warhorses for Zhenya!

Thing is, before, most everything was chosen for her. So we’ll get to see what she comes up with now that she has more freedom, although some changes might be gradual. Experience and Windmills are a great start, imo!

I think it would be really awesome if she used her memory EX as her free skate. That’s my crazy figure skating newbie prediction. [emoji28]

location of Scotiabank rink

We've know for a while she had been learning choreography at Scotiabank rink, which isn't private like TCC. It was a choice.

Hi, excuse me, are you referring to "Greater Toronto Skating Academy" (Scotiabank rink), which is located at Downsview park area?

I do love Firebird  In fact I've been thinking about what warhorse I wouldn't cringe with if Zhenya were to use one and that was my first option. Music is intense but completely agree on non-egg laying choreo

Yes, but we need to be fair here, too. It‘s not like Zhenya didn‘t like the programs they chose for her. Judging from that interview, she loved her first senior program and Anna Karenina and in the Of Ice and Fame documentary she mentioned that her current SP (which was the 2017 River Flows in You) really resembled her mood right now. The only ones she didn‘t really like were Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and January Stars. I think she really felt the music she was skating to. Of course, she didn‘t have much of a choice but I believe Eteri knew what music would suit Zhenya and it‘s not like it‘s reasonable to let a 16 year old make all the choices herself. Because if we did, we’d probably get one SL (like Yulia chose) but also a bunch of Titanic programs like Elena‘s...

I agree, though, that she now has more freedom but I do think that Brian and David both still have a say in choosing her program and they should. She‘s more mature now, so I think we can expect something great from this collaboration. And I too loved Windmills and Experience. But Memory imo would be suited for a competitive program than the others.

I like that crazy prediction and I actually don‘t think it‘s that crazy at all. She could easily make a great program out of it which is suited for competitions. :)

Thanks! [emoji4] I feel that her rumoured jazz sp and memory as a fs could be very symbolic for her in this new season. Her jazz sp music is explosive “wham, bam alakazam!” is like she’s saying I’m back everyone, I’m healthy again and I’m ready to compete for more gold medals.

Memory’s theme is optimism and contains lyrics like “a new day has begun” symbolising her fresh start at TCC and new direction for her skating career after her rocky and emotional 2017/18 season. To me both programs go hand in hand really well and reflect where she is right now.

I agree 100%. :) They are also very different choices of music, so no one can say again: ”buh huh, she‘s always doing the same“. And I‘ve listened to her SP music so often now already that I‘ll probably be even disappointed if it turns out to be a rumor😂

“wham bam alakazam!“ indeed.

I wonder will they cut orange coloured sky with anything else or just use the song as it is round about the right length as it is. If they do it will all depend on who is the singer in what they might cut it with but that could be quite fun. For her long I’m chopping something lyrical like a combination of her memory, meditation in Thais and even windmills as those are some of my favourite exhibitions of hers that other than windmills at the start and end tend to have less miming.
