Anyone think Yuzu will ever dedicate a program to universal, humanitarian issues like the way Yulia L. skated to Schindler's List OST even though she wasn't Jewish? Like I would love it if Yuzu dedicated a sad, meaningful program to films like "The Pianist" or other war or humanitarian films. I really want to see Yuzu skate to a sad piece, because Yuzu brings out emotions so well.
He actually cried himself when worked on "Requiem of Heaven and Earth". All of the programs that are dedicated to natural disaster survivors are sad and comforting at the same time. The music he used for "Hope and Legacy" was used at Paralympic Games. How much more he can spread himself for some of us to feel sad? I personally don't like this idea at all because I feel like he had suffered enough and those feelings are very common for all the people around the world who had lost their loved ones due to natural disasters, there's no need in my vision to do that again with the music that was written by a Western composer about wars, holocaust, etc. What he does is humanitarian btw- he'd never get that People's Honor Award if not for his constant involvement in a numerous charities. He does what he can, where it matters the most- at his homeland. And also- do you recall a flashmob he took part in a few years ago when the participants had to pour over themselves cold water with ice or donate to a fund for a rare disease? With his asthma we all wondered if he'd do that at all- he did and made a donation too. Watch here: Ice Bucket Challenge.
Sometimes when we have an idea for a music or a program for a certain skater we'd like to get a certain experience- feel the pain though their artistic act. That's okay. Just always keep in mind that these skaters are human beings just like we all are. They have their own bad experiences, problems, pains. Some of those are very personal and very private. If they choose to take a powerful music and a serious historical or humanitarian issue as the baseline of their program- in some cases (with skaters who have a word in a process of creation of a competitive and exhibition programs, which we know doesn't happen all the time but with Hanyu it happens, his word is decisive) it is a very meaningful choice. I always pay a lot of respect for skaters who do that because skating the entire season with a theme that is such a heavy emotional music piece is quite exhausting and it takes a part of their lives with every performance. But I don't expect everyone to do so, especially big champions. It has to be personal. Not otherwise.
So I hope he will be true to his heart and enjoy the season.
