After Marshall's, What impressions do you have of Sasha Cohen??

I've thought it would be great TV progamming if someone a little edgie like Jimmy Kimmel had both Sacha Baron Cohen and Sasha Cohen as guests on the same night - you could really get a lot of mileage with that....

Some of the Sasha-bashers are going to be very surprised when Sasha goes to Nationals and does well.

I thought she looked great. She beat Johnny's competition SP in the eyes of both the judges and the public... including judges who are not loathe to criticize her. The WSS... well - it was underwhelming and I hated, hated the arrangement - it sounded like the Chipmunks! If I'd had to choose between her and Johnny's "My Way" Johnny would have gotten my vote. And Uncle Dick's comparison to Bree was so right.

But hey, it was her first time out with it. She seems to work her way into programs slowly. She was gorgeous in GBA and kudos to her for throwing in the jumps in both numbers, which she often omits in exhibitions.

Why is it a disaster when Sasha falls but hurray for Kimmie when she does it? There is a double standard here. I thought Kimmie was wooden.
to add, i think that kimmie needs to fix up her arms a bit. like the first nationals that she did, her arms were just like barbie. emily's style in my opinion, is just far too agressive.

also, i noticed that all throughout marshalls, sasha didn't really confirmed that she is going to nationals. she just had too much to do with a show for CSI, a film, another show (most likely christmas), and press, she might not even have time for training and nationals and even worlds. her skills are dying out, ever since she switches back to nicks, she's been very laid back on her performance. i think that at this point of her competitive career, sasha is totally convinced that she doesn't need to be a winner to be sucessful. with her resume, she could get anywhere she wanted.

I thought Johnny and Sasha looked extremely happy and relaxed at this type of event: I think they are both made for show skating and there really isn't anything wrong about that, in my book. Sasha -without the eligible pressure to land the jumps- is fun to watch. It's only frustrating for me to watch them in those eligible events where they look pressured and unhappy. I think Sasha would be very happy to opt out of eligible skating IF there were enough pro /show opportunities. That's a very big IF given the current dearth of programming.

I found it really hard to watch them stand there as the "panel" delivered judgement even with the knowledge that there was "wine and cheese aplenty" at this "competition." Listening to Peter here made me appreciate his interviews at competitions more and I never did like those overmuch. Yuck!

( I liked Kimmie's first costume which hid the presence of the watch or watch-like band! I think Tanith needs to cut her bangs more or pin them back! I liked their tango, but they just don't give off a hot couple vibe to me; I like their fun -we are great buddies- programs more. I think they really sell those! John, please get alternate costume advice!)
agreed  . johnny's attempt to make himself all masculine only made him worse. i think he should lose the makeup and change his hair, then create costumes that doesn't really look like girls costume and just simple dress down a little bit.
tanith-ben and great buddies wasn't my choice, i think their biggest challenge is to find 'passion' and romance for the best of them. or if they're still thinking bout the great buddies thing, then i think that they should do a light hearted romance (kinda like those date movie thing) program. like guy meets girl, then full of cliches.
kimmie looks good on anything (just not amateur, wacky or 80s fashion in skating). the most important thing she needs to do is to change her barbie hands, actually interprets the music without making it all look mechanical but most natural.

i would love to see sasha doing triple-triple again and bring back the sasha curl and use music that's not her usual 'formula'. im tired of her sassy and fast, or classical music that she chooses. i'd really love to see her do pink floyd or action hero or something from an indie film or something that's 'go!go!go!', just something innovative in the future years to come. im doubting that acting is really what she wanted. i think she did this to improve her artistic expressions on the ice and if that's so, i hope that she could take something with her in acting.

Last season Johnny was using instant tanner instead of makeup. I guess he's given up on that this year.

I've seen some of the (male) commentators at NFL, etc. games get makeup applied before they go on camera. It's apparently a presentation thing.

Johnny is naturally very fair-skinned and he needs to wear makeup or he looks ghastly under the lights, with the reflection from the ice. But he apparently is very careful with his skin because he tends to break out, so maybe that's why he's avoided wearing foundation and stuck to tanner instead. It's possible that he's had an adverse reaction to the tanner and has ditched that, too.

But he needs to do something because he is too pale to go without any makeup.

To get back O/T about Sasha...I did not get WSS. Why was she on her toes at the beginning?

Not sure, but maybe it had something to do with "I feel pretty, oh so pretty..."

Whenever I think of WSS, that's the song that always comes to my mind first.

It was a foregone conclusion that Sasha would win the 'competition' because she has more fans than the others, but IMHO, Johnny Weir skated the best in this cheesefest, and Kimmie was the next best.

Sasha's WSS was lifeless, skated at such a slow pace that it was at odds with the music, and she double-footed the salchow, which was only a double. "God Bless America" was slightly better, and should have been, considering that it was the same exact number she did all summer in COI.

But Sasha is in NO WAY in shape enough to do Nationals, and she darned well knows it. She's not going.

I have to rather strongly disagree.

Is Sasha in shape enough to beat the likes of Kimmie Meissner, No. Not of what I've seen. However, when you look at the rest of the field in Hughes, Liang, Taylor, & Czisny, none of them have shown that they could beat even a subpar Cohen as they like Cohen have little in the way of consistency. Yet, Cohen technically in other areas and definitely in the PCS can outscore them all easily.

IMO, the rest of the filed is so poor IMO, that Caroline Zhang if she were on the senior level right now, I have little doubt that even she could beat them(outside of Cohen) on almost any given day.

I think it's up to Sasha. I don't really get the feeling that she wants
to compete but we'll see. It's definitely there for her if she wants it.

But Sasha would have to be willing to lose her title to Kimmie Meissner. Kimmie in her first try won the World Championship that Sasha failed to achieve in five attempts. Why would Sasha want to risk losing to Kimmie again?

If she beat kimmie at Nationals, maybe it will feel like she won worlds also.

Am I just way off in thinking that winning should not be the only thing that matters? Doesn't integrity come from giving it your best? What about all of those who just love to see her skate - win or 2nd, 3rd, etc..

But she did already.

I'll say this much: if cohen was a REAL competitor, she'd be ITCHING to compete against Kimmie again so she can beat her and make a statement to the skating world. Because right now people are basically starting to accept that she won't be coming back. Remember how Kwan responded when people counted her out? That's how a competitor responds. A competitor Cohen is not.

I really really really want to see her at Nats, and i think even if she came in 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I really miss seeing her.
I loved her WSS program and i think she could turn it into a great LP.

Since Kimmie beat Sasha at Worlds, does it mean that Kimmie was really the top American skater last year?
